  1. A multiband compressor and a damn good one at that. Even then it won't sound great. if you have the money to burn:

    http://www.fabfilter.com/products/pro-mb-multiband-compressor-plug-in

BTW if you do want anything from Fabfilter I can get you 10% off as a current customer.

ALSO I have an idea how he does it but here is proof it can be done with certain songs depending on how they were originally composed:

Isolating Left and Right channels and/or Mid / Side parts of songs is where to start. Then careful phase version. All of the techniques and know how about exactly how to extract sounds can be complex.

  2. Haha nah I am selling all of the stuff bc I don't need it. I use Studio One mainly. I use Reason on occasion (my Bahamut Lagoon and Chrono Trigger tracks were done in Reason) Picked up Bitwig to have some and support the dev team.

I am triming and minimizing my set-up. My main work horse plugins are Slate Digital and Fabfilter plugins. I have all of them except Slate's VTM. I also don't use the synths anymore. I do not want to sell Harmor, but I can't sell FL Studio without selling Harmor. You have to sell your entire account. I haven't used FL for a track in almost 10 years.

For anyone who wants some vintage style plugs I highly recommend T-Racks Grand. Used it for a long time. It is over 16 plugins for only $100 bucks. The only drawback the CPU hit is higher than Waves or Slate Digital.

  3. Damn you for adding Alchemy. I don't have the money, but with Camel's doors closed, it's going to be tough to find.

Yeah I was really sad they closed their doors. Prob partially due to the new VAT tax laws in europe and the fact they haven't released any new software products in ages. Or something personal could of happened they did not want to share?

Well it's tax return season, let me know if you gather the funds in the meantime.

  5. Pssst, don't mean to rain on the parade but FYI:

    http://www.soundsonline.com/knowledgebase

4.6 Can I transfer my PLAY license to a different iLok key?

Yes, however both iLok keys must be registered to the same iLok.com account, and both must be inserted in USB ports on the same computer when transferring licenses.

I would have sold my complete composers collection to someone who would use it more awhile ago if it wasn't for that.

  6. Started off using FL back in the day. Excellent piano roll! But everything else was such a click fest it slowly killed me over time like a bad relationship. After trying out almost every DAW under the sun I use Studio One now and love it.

Also for anyone who likes Live but hates its piano roll try out Bitwig and/or Studio One. Bitwig is super similar, Studio One has alot of the seamless drag n drop controls from Live.

At the end of the day you just gotta find what DAW jives with you the best.

  7. Okay so does anyone have a level 50 amiibo yet? I have a level 50 Marth...cannot beat shim for the life of me. He even countered metanight and zero suit samus' attacks. (I'd consider myself an above average smasher) The computer is able to tip you almost every time. So he was killing medium weight characters in 3-5 total hits consistently.

One thing I have noticed is that games can very much be about match-ups and appropiate strategy. Online I played the most ridiculous Ness player who could combo you for around 35-50% easily. I was Lucina, Marth, and Little Mac and he destroyed me. Then I played as Samus and spaced him and he was toast.

Been playing a bit with MegaMan. Weird character but super fun as soon as he clicks. Has such an awesome variety of moves and options.

  8. Louder is almost always better. Higher RMS values are not louder, just more compressed. Real dynamic loudness is possible when there is room for it, otherwise you're just bombarding your brain with clipped distortion that damages your ears and the quality of the music.

Well said with few words! Inharmonic digital clipping most of the time sounds like crap. There is so much more to how we perceive loudness than just merely a single peak or rms reading for the entire track.

  9. ill be getting it tonight, and will be playing it all weekend with my son to unlock many things :-)

Raise em well and start em early. ;)

I am picking up mine after work today but won't be able to play until tomorrow. My bro is coming over to play all day.

  10. Mastering at 0db is a bad idea. Inter sample peaks will cause problems. ISP metering is essential (page 8)

    http://www.fabfilter.com/help/ffprol-manual.pdf

There is a whole litany of affects audio levels can have on your brain and mechanical hearing system. For example your ear canal will actually start closing and distorting the sound when peak levels go over a certain threshold. Hence why the levels of your speakers / listening environment are uber important.

Usually smacking the crap out of a limiter or compressor on the master channel never yields good results. 1-2db of gain reduction on a master compressor can really help glue a track together. Mastering is all about subtlety.

Mixing and mastering is a balancing act. There is so much science in how our brain perceives sound. Here is a great video from a master going through some individual tracks to enhance loudness:

  12. Presonus Studio One: Best of both worlds. (audio + MIDI) Fantastic Customer service/forum

    price:

Studio One Free: try it out

    Studio One Artist: $99

    Studio One Producer: $150

    Studio One Professional: $299

Seconded. You can also find the Pro version used on KVR for around $100-$200. It's drag and drop and speed is amazing. It's very easy to learn and start making music. The Pro version comes with some really samples for dance music from Vengeance.

  13. Played all of the new stages. Hyrule Castle is by far the worse. Pretty boring and uninspiring. So much more they could have done. You are only in the castle for a hot second and then the rest is just a dirt road and plains. Was hoping for something at least close to the craziness of bowser's castle. Link as a character with all of his items is super fun to play with.

FZero and Excite Bike levels are amazaballs. Excite Bike is so much fun to play with heavy characters with the long straight aways.
