  1. Thanks for the help.

    Update:

I definitely went overboard with the EQ mixing because I was afraid of the song being muddy, but that made somethings sound too thin, especially the main synth. I'm pretty sure I've sorted that out now. Toned down the higher frequencies of the snare aswell.

The "guitar" you guys are talkin about is actually a synth but I've tweaked it so theres no confusion about that.

Changed the bass sample and pumped it up slightly so it can be heard more.

Changed the arrangement quite a lot, added tempo changes and experimented with a few effects. Still an abrupt ending since I still need to extend the song.

    Mix in first post

  2. You definitley know how to make your orchestral samples sound realistic. Production wise there doesn't seem to be anything wrong here at all but as you say, its not a remix (don't know the originals so I'll take your word for it). Great work anyway and I see no reason you wouldn't be accepted if you changed up the arrangemnt so its less like the originals.

  3. Very nice. I noticed a subtle "Windfish ballad" cameo near the end. Maybe you could bring a bit more of that theme aswell as a bit more of your own orignal melody.

    Y

ou could make the intro even more atmospheric with a little more reverb and sound effects.

Even though this is a chillout song, I think the ending could have more of a climax. Not sure how, without losing the feel, but it could. Good stuff

  4. Up until now I've only made music using a keyboard but this is my first mix using a DAW. Its an idea I had a while ago but I think I can do a lot more justice to it using a DAW.

Comments greatly appreciated since this is my first shot doing things in this (hopefully better) way.

  5. I've only just gotten into Civ at the end of 4, so I don't know for sure, but apparently Civ 4 was in a similar "rough" state to Civ 5 when it first came out.

Seeing how awesome Civ 4 has turned out, I'm hoping for the same with this. Haven't bought 5 yet so I'll wait a bit to see how things turn out. Still havin a lot of fun with 4 so its not that big a deal to be honest. Plus I won't have to spend money which is always good.

  6. Not out until Friday in Europe. I'm all for some multiplayer after that. Though I haven't touched a Civ game since 2.

Yeah that sucks. I'm downloading the demo right now atleast. Can't wait to try it. I hate how they chose to release just when people are goin back to college/universtity though.

  7. I watched some of that live stream of the developers playing it.

Definitely loving all the subtle, and not so subtle, changes to gameplay. City states seem like they'll mix things up alot.

I personally hated unit stacks and the fact that the losing unit in a fight would always die. Prefer the new system a lot more.

  8. @ Rozovian: Thanks for feedback. Glad the issues are things that I can sort out relatively easily. I was worried that the song was too short for all those sources but it works out i guess.

@ neblix: I see what your saying lol. Thats the turnabout sisters theme though. Didnt even notice they started with basically the same notes till you said that...

  9. After listening to the Kraftwerk song, I'd say you definitely got their style down. I've never heard anything like it so I'm probably not the best person to critique.

But I will say that I found it interesting and unique all the way through so good job with that. The codec sound effect was a nice touch at the end

  10. I know I'm probably biting off more than i can chew by trying to remix this but i'll try it anyways.

Its the first wip so I was a little lazy with humanisation in some parts. Also because of the weird piano/synth sample I'm using, I had to use absolutely no reverb which makes it sound dry in the lower pitch notes. I'll sort it out in the next wip.

  11. Update:

Changed the piano playing the lead melodies to an electric one.

Put a subtle synth in the background to fill up empty space a bit.

Increased and varied up the tempo in places.

Added a very breif cameo of "Jailer's Elegy", another song from the game, in the middle.

Hopefully the songs a bit more interesting now and all the different songs meld together ok. Comments appreciated.

  12. @ Hoboka: Yeah, I've been busy with life and stuff recently. I kinda feel dead in a way lol.

Anyway, thanks for both your replies. I've tried to make improvements to everything said and also extended the song with a couple other songs from the game.

Not sure if these fit in well with eachother but i gave it a go anyways. Use the same link in first post for the mix
