  1. Thanks for the responses. The noise gate is, as I remember now that you all mentioned it, how I went about it before. But after some fun and experimenting this time around, I achieved the same desired effect by adjusting the LFO event levels of my snth (by the way I'm using FL Studio 8xx). The tremolo technique sounds like something fun to try in my next piece. Again, thanks for all the responses.
  2. I haven't tried any composing for a few years now and a lot of what I was able to teach myself back then has been pretty much forgotten. So I'm hoping for a little push in the right direction. I'm trying to create this effect on an electronic bass tab in a song I'm writing but cannot remember if I did it with phaser or flanger or what. Here's an example of what I'm trying to do: The song is by the band Ohgr and the effect initially kicks in around the :32 mark on the underlying synth. To be more specific (and rookie sounding) it sounds like someone hitting the mute button really fast while the synth plays one long drawn out note. I hope I haven't set anyone's eyes on fire with my lack of technical know-how, but I've put in the better part of 3 hours tonight just trying to remember how I got this effect to work years ago. Thanks for any help.
  3. Thanks for the comments. I wasn't worried too much about the repetativeness until I saw how long it became. I'll be working to trim off some of the fat soon. I had a feeling right away that the mixing part would be suspect since that's always been a weakness of mine. But I'll work on that too. I also edited the OP with a link to the original song since that had slipped my mind. Again, thanks for the reply.
  4. I had never, ever, even heard of Diddy or Coolio until their respective "covers" were released. And to this day, I could not name one song either of them has written aside from the previously named songs. Here let me hand you the hole for your logic. There we go.
  5. Best sampling possible: and from a somewhat unexpected source as well. What is the sample in this song from anyway?
  6. Hi. This is a revamped version of a remix I did a while ago and posted here. I like this version better. I think it fits the overall mystique and atmosphere of the game and original track (Pandemonium). Here it is: Original piece: Thanks.
  7. Wow. This place looks different! It's been a long, long, long time since I last logged in here. Anyhow, I was pumped when I heard about the Alice sequal on McGee's site. Some of us over there are throwing together a little remix project of the original score by Chris Vrenna. I love this soundtrack and figured I'd take a picklestab at my favorite track from it. I'd say it's about 90-95% done. I'm pleased with the layout and flow, but I'm horrendous at mixing/fine tuning my pieces, so I thought I'd head back to my old stomping grounds and put it through the OC community gauntlet to see what some true talents think of it. The thing about Vrenna's style on this whole soundtrack is that it's so unique, achieving variation from it through my own sound should be a slam dunk. The original is slow and ambient, but powerful. I picked the speed up a bit and tried to give it some bite in an electronia-esque (I guess it would be called, I don't really put much stock in labels and genres) type of sound. 2 sources to grab it from, take your pick: Click here to download Pandemonium (Hexane Migraine remix).mp3 http://www.megaupload.com/?d=2TISWQY2 EDIT: BTW, I go mostly by the handle GrimmHatter now. Thought I should stress that so no one thinks I'm stealing this.
  8. It's worth a shot. Though I'm still peeved that the original issue hasn't gotten any better no matter what I try.
  9. I used to use a little mp3 program to record whatever the sound card was playing on my old XP computer. Everything worked fine back in the day. Now I have this new Vista computer and about 10 freeware sound recording programs later and about a hundred trips to the mixer panel of my card, I still can't get anything to record the sound it plays. I have a SB Audigy PCI sound card installed along all the software that came on the CD. I just updated the drivers and software last night. Installed on the computer are: Creative Audio Center, Audio Console; MediaSource Player and Organizer, MediaSource 5 Player and Organizer, MediaSource Audio Converter; and Wave Studio 7. I tried Wave Studio to record, along with several other generic programs on the net, but when the recording is finished, nothing plays back. I open up the wave file and it contains nothing. It's like something is muted somwhere but I've been through all the channels the card is offering. For Recording, I have Mic, S/PDIF-In, and Line-In. The volumes are all maxed out for those three. For playback, I have S/PDIF-In, Auxiliary, Line-In, and Mic. Only one of those can be on at a time. The others are muted, but the volume slider is still maxed on all of them. I've tried selecting each individual channel to record from in all the programs I used, but I get no sound at all to the recording. I have sound coming out of my speakers, as normal. But nothing for the recordings. Thanks.
  10. Time for another chapter of Vista incompatabilities. This time I installed my copy of Nero Express 6, which isn't even a year old yet, and Vista repeatedly tells me it has incompatability issues with it. It gives that familiar "Close Program" or "Check for solutions Online" screen. It continued to say that the program was made by something called Nero AG and happily informs me that there is a fix for this problem at Nero's website: http://www.nero.com/enu/wer-nero3-6.html I have found nothing relating to my problem on this site. The only thing that has been suggested to me is to upgrade Nero but all the upgrade links just lead to demo downloads of the newer versions. Does anyone have anything to suggest? Thanks.
  11. Since I got my new computer a couple months ago, I'm accountering a new, unexpected problem, that actually doesn't involve Vista as before, when installing and running older games. All of my games are kept in cd binders and I've thrown away all the old jewel cases without remembering alot of them had cd keys required to install/run them. Now that my old computer is gone and I want to run some old games on my new one, I'm without the keys to install them. Is there anything I can do aside from buying a new copy just to a sticker with a 20 digit code on it to play a game I already owned to begin with? I was thinking along of lines of something like sending the company a file from the cd that would prove that I own the discs and then they send me a copy of the key. Anything so I don't have to pay for a game I already own. Thanks for the help.
  12. - I have the original CD version 1.0. - I used the auto detect for sound setup immediately after installation. - I think I'm using the BAM.bat. After installing it, a message comes up saying to just type "BAM" to start the game. So that's what I've been using. - Using DoxBox ver 0.72. - I'll try to send the save to you. I don't think it's copyrighted, it's just called 3.SAV and is about 181KB.
  13. Lately I've been having the game I'm playing in DosBox crash. Every time I load up my saved game, I get to play for about 7 minutes before it crashes to dos with this message: The game I'm playing is D&D: Blood & Magic. I'm not sure if this is the game's problem or a DosBox problem. Plus, I can't locate any of the files (UNITS.CPP or MEMMGR.CPP) the message references. I've tried reloading from different saves and reinstalling DosBox and the game and ever time I get to the same point in the game I get this message after crashing. Anyone know what this is all about?
  14. That did the trick exactly. Now I can enjoy my game again. Thanks, Coop. You are officially the World, Major, Minor DosBox title holder in my book.
  15. One small problem I'm having that is really confusing me... I've got dosbox to run the setup off the cd of my game just fine, which is alot further than I was before when not using dosbox, but for some reason when my game asks me what directory to install to, it thinks my C drive only has 110MB of free space left. The game says it needs over 200MB to install and I know my C drive has over 200GIGABYTES of free space. Even when I just open up dosbox and type "dir" to look at the directory, it says I only have 110,xxx,xxx bytes free in my Games folder on my C drive. Is there a maximum amount of disc space I can use with dosbox? I'm really confused. Thanks.
  16. Thanks. I'll have to brush up on my DOSbox since I haven't used it in a couple years.
  17. Like the title says, my new comp has Vista, which basically means my entire back library of software is now obsolete. I know there are patches and work-arounds to some of the newer things running, but I'd really like to try to get this game (called Lands of Lore: Guardians of Destiny, in case anyone's familiar with it) working that came out back in '95. When I put disc 1 in the autoplay kicks in and the game attempts to install. But I immediately get a message saying "The system does not support full screen mode. Press [close] to terminate the program." I'm not really surprized, or even disappointed much, since I can't even get games 10 years newer than this one to work. But I would like to know if there is some way to get an old game like this up and running. I don't know if dosbox would work since I can't even install the game yet, or if there are some flags I can use in a command prompt to work around the full screen mode (maybe set it to somehow install in window mode?)... Anyone have any ideas? Thanks.
  18. Thanks for the heads-up. I guess my search was a wasted effort. Anyway, I'm hoping to find someone who might have an idea for my issue, but as good a game as Gothic 2 was, there seems to be very little support for it. Thanks though.
  19. It's been a while since I've been to the boards, so I had trouble finding Unmod amidst the new layout. Sorry if this topic doesn't belong here. But anyway... I was just wondering if anyone's played Gothic 2 and could help with this problem I'm having. I dusted off my copy the other day, installed it, and started a new game. I can hear the music and the ambient soud, but I get nothing for NPC spoken dialogue. When I interact with NPCs, all I get is the list of responses. My character doesn't make a sound, the NPC doesn't make a sound. I've tried reinstalling several times, upgrading drivers, and tweaking the sound settings in the game but nothing seems to work. I've found no help at all at the support sites because the developer is German. When nothing helped, I figured I'd just turn on subtitles and continue playing, but the subtitles won't even show up. So now I'm really confused. The game has run perfectly for me before on this same computer. Anyone have any suggestions for me? Thanks.
  20. My in-laws have a 1-year-old Dell. It has two rom drives (DVD read and CD read/write). I recently purchased a Pioneer internal DVD burner for them for Christmas and tried to install it but it won't work right. I took out the CD burner and replaced it with the DVD burner so the computer now has a DVD player and DVD burner. When bot are connected, only the drive in the top slot (the player) will play correctly. The one below it (the burner) will only play audio, but not the video part of the DVD. When I switch them around (burner on top, player on bottom) the burner will play fine but the player will only play audio again, not video. I thought maybe the burner (from Pioneer) was just being picky, so to test out things, I took my DVD burner from my computer, a 5-year-old, generic, Medion with a first generation pentium 4, and put it in the Dell. This burner, an equally generic one that doesn't even have the manufacturer name on the face plate and I'm not at home to look at the documentation, wouldn't even register when the computer booted up no matter what slot I put it in. So I would assume the problem is with the computer, not the kind of burner I put in it. I heard word that Dell builds their computer to only accept Dell parts. Is this true? Do I need to drop some extra cash to get a Dell burner working in this thing?
  21. I just recently got one of the new LG phones from Verizon (I think it's the VX8300, whatever the new one is). I downloaded a couple songs using Vcast and was wondering if there was a way to get them, along with some pictures and movies I took, from my phone onto my computer? I bought a USB cable for the phone that came with what must be a list of about 20 - 30 different drivers to install. I've installed them but still can't seem to get the phone and computer to communicate. No extra drive comes on MyComputer for the phone, and the phone shows no indication that it's hooked up to the computer (like maybe a camera would). How can I get these two things to transfer data between each other? Also, what is the file format for the songs downloaded with Vcast? If they aren't mp3's, can the phone still play mp3's if I can find a way to get them from my computer onto the phone? Thanks for the help.
  22. This is just....wow. That's it just wow. Ladies and gentlemen, we have a new favorite. Really, this is just a total smash from begining to end. I love the intro's transition into an 8-bitesque rendition of the original @ :44 and the whole thing just crashing in with the melody/rhythm @ 1:09. From there it's just flat out breakbeat rockin' at its finest. The selection to cover is pudding enough, but Tefnek does it with justice and then some.
