There are a ton of great PC games that were released after 2006. Shouldn't those count? Granted, most of them do have a console counterpart, but still.
-
I can't even remember whether it was you or DarkSim that introduced it to everybody.
Pretty sure it was me, since I've had it as a LAN party staple for a few years now.
-
Yes! It's a mix from a game I've actually played!
That aside, I really dig this. The bassline is delicious, as has been pointed out, and the entire song has this deliberate, driving vibe that I really like. Nice work!
-
A really good stereo mix will sound good on mono as well, although these days I'd just say aim at your intended listener base. If 99.9% of everyone will be listening to the mix on a stereo set, you're almost certainly safe.

For anyone who cares, I've done a Starcraft remix for this upcoming week over at the FL Studio Remix Gauntlet in the Competitions forum. Should be posted in the thread by tonight or tomorrow morning, I think.
-
My song ended up being Zerg Two + Terran Two + a smidgen of one of the Protoss themes from Starcraft. Subbing it very shortly.
-
Ah heck, why not. Sign me up as a star again. Please note, as always, that novices will get FAR better use out of me if they use FL Studio.
-
Has Borderlands 2 been mentioned yet? I listen to that soundtrack while reading, a lot. Makes a great backdrop for fantasy and sci-fi novels. Also, the new Devil May Cry soundtrack by Noisia and Combichrist. So intense.
-
I'm really psyched with how my track is going thus far. Y'all don't even know.
-
Alright, I'm officially claiming Zerg Two from the original Starcraft as my track for this week. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NtpdM2VogWI

Alright, now I'm sure you're just screwing with us, Jason. All the RTS games I've ever played have had little more than ambient noise in the background of the levels. You really are trying to force us to use rigid constraints, aren't you?

I can't wait to move to the next round. I'm champing at the bit for a chance to do another mix!

I was bored in class, so I went ahead and updated the first post with some personal recommendations.
-
Yo mindwanderer or anyone who is more updated than I am. I'd Like to know a fun fact about previous episodes. Has any song made for this competition yet passed the panel?
Don't think the competition has been around long enough for that to have happened, yet, but Broken Wings (the winner from the pilot episode) is on the panel as of recently.

Pic is relevant to above post.

Glad to hear that Mike. Though keep the guidelines in mind, for it's called "Be Aggressive!" for a reason.
Yeah, almost immediately after I posted that, it morphed into a higher-tempo 80's-inspired prog house number with phat gated drums and a wicked bassline. It's gonna be decidedly non-chilled when finished, lol.
-
Did you review Disc 5 yet?
EDIT: And yeah, may want to touch base with Emu, although I betcha he'll see this very shortly.
-
Right, I gotta claim Good Morning. It's just begging to be remixed via happy hardcore. I'd also love to snag Covert Town, but it's asking me for electro-swing, and I'd need an acoustic guitarist to handle that Django Reinhardt sound.
-
I've finally started something on my song. Going for a really chilled house vibe, we'll see if I stick with it.

Hey, welcome to the OCR WIP forums, turkooyze. Generally speaking, you're not gonna want to mark your song WIPs as "Mod Review" until you've gotten some other feedback on them first. Wait for some of the input to flow, and then use the mod review as the "final leg of the journey" before submitting to OCR. More details on proper Mod Review usage here.
That said, sounds like you're off to a good start. It's a bit cover-ish, in that there's not much done to rearrange the music, and the sounds aren't articulated as realistically as they need to be for a convincing orchestral arrangement, but it's definitely enjoyable to listen to.
Again, welcome, and I hope you'll take the time to learn the ropes around here and become a member of the community!

I've got a PCI M-Audio Delta 1010LT card that has treated me really well under Win7 x64. Mine's been through a lot, even sat underneath an overheating fanless video card (and bent a bit from the heat), but it's been stable and clean this entire time. Highly recommended if a PCI (non-E) card works for you.

NESteryears is a bob-omb piece of work. I had it on repeat for at least a week.
-
Heh. I wanna say I finished this song something like two and a half years ago or somewhere near there. I've gotten a lot better, re: criticism on the low-end mixing. However, I've still got a soft spot for this song, and I'm glad it's getting some love on the front page!

Do you use Spotify? If so, give the album a listen or some stars or something here!

Oooh boy, that's a bit of a slippery slope, as CPU manufacturing tends to do a yearly turnover kind of thing, unlike consoles.
A better metric would probably be the minimum requirements for the game--if the hardware for the minimum requirements was manufactured X amount of years ago, that would probably do the trick.
Thankfully, the issue is made moot by the abundance of console/PC ports, but there are some PC-only gems like Nitronic Rush that have great soundtracks, were released only a couple years ago, but might not have the single most demanding set of requirements.
This, however, is why the PC is generally held up as an example of the best possible quality of gaming, in terms of processing power--the technology just moves SO much faster than any console can.
