  1. I just found out about this today via the ngi links. hello. i did town from wild arms a long time ago as a DoD alt. i think i might want to redo it, along with courage and aldehyde castle. but, i see they are all taken. gosh darn it.

maybe i'll just redo town and courage. i'll check back, looks like i have a few months. i think this project is great. i support you.

  2. Hey, this is after the fact, but Punchfest 5 was a blast! Lots of great songs came out of it too. I just wish there was a solid place to host the files. Maybe Prince of Darkness will host it somewhere. Can't wait until the next Punchfest! I'd say it was a big success. See ya'll next time.

  3. hey....i'm still with ya. i think a full-fledged project needs to be started. Also, people need to be educated as to how awesome this game is. Contra III SNES was released in 1992,.and then Gunstar Heroes blew it away in 1993. What an awesome time.

I think if you're serious about wanting remixes for Gunstar Heroes, you may have to do more than create threads. Do you have any web design skills?

  4. when i was in 7th grade i wanted to be in the elementary school band, so i was given the choice of either a drum, a trumpet, or a clarinet. i picked the clarinet. bad choice. I should have picked the trumpet. what inspired me to pick the clarinet? my mom probably pushed me towards the clarinet because she loved big band music and benny goodman in particular. the big band era loved their clarinet soloists. so i guess that was the dream early on.

fast forward to college, i was in the marching band 2 years and got tired of it. a clarinet player in a marching band? that's ridiculous! we were merely window dressing for the real marching band: the BRASS and DRUMS!

i gave up music for about 10 years and then a friend of mine brought his electric guitar over and started playing popular metal songs. I wanted to play popular metal songs from that point forward so I......wow this is starting to sound like a biography. I'll stop now.

what got me into remixing video game music? probably the liss brothers' early stuff from late '04 got me into it, and snappleman's 'break the silence' got me to practice enough to actually pull something off. I never got serious about music until I heard about VGMix around late '04 (i guess) and then finally DoD a little later.

The concept of online community competition, or simply music competition is what inspired me to get into music....the creation of it. If VGMix never existed, I probably would have never done any music seriously.

    bye.

  5. Any thoughts on incorporating some of the little yelling sound effects from the game into a few tracks?

I'm ambivalent on SFX in tracks. Sometimes it kills it, though there're several ones that come to mind that use them really well (like Anthem of a Misguided Youth). But the first thing I think of from Gunstar Heroes are those little yells the characters do when they get hurt or throw guys around. KF

yeah, i love SFX use in remixes, as long as it's clever like in that song you mentioned. What exactly does the gunstar hero yell? Is he yelling "Sega!"? I always thought so. :<sega!

  6. I've heard some really great work from a lot of really great ReMixers, but I've been dying to hear a good Gunstar Heroes ReMix. Most of the game's music is so unique, like the Spaceship Flight and the stage before that... I'd like to see someone do a rock version of a few of the songs. Does that sound good to anyone?

sounds great to me. can you be more specific though? maybe you should make a list. i have a few WIPs but nothing great yet. in the other gunstar heroes request thread i thought we were making good progress. i believe psychog13, MaliceX, Dash Myoku, and myself were trying to get some new stuff rolling. I'm still trying to improve my production skills, so my complete tracks might take a few more months at least.

Oh, and I heard Snappleman has attempted a Gunstar Heroes track. That's pretty neat.

So, since you started this new Gunstar Heroes thread, why don't you compile a list of songs you'd like to hear remixed and we can all comment.

    awesome.

  7. Hm, I may participate in this. I've been playing that game since I was like...9 or 10. Hell, I still have the original game in my possession. :D

It's...gonna be hard choosing a track to remix, though. >.>

This is great news! I hope you choose something other than the mine cart level. I listened to one of your songs and it was very good.

Anyone who has a Nintendo Wii should definitely get GH. It was the first game I bought on the Virtual Console. Black's Base music is nostalgic heaven.

  8. I still want to try to complete at least one track. Thanks to MaliceX and psychog13 for the replies and encouragement. I'm still searching for an acceptable lead guitar tone. My bass playing and tone is much better I think. I'm going to try to complete something by August. We'll see. I sure could use a few test drum midis for inspiration. hah.

  9. p.s. I heard that terror and destroyed optimism are out for blood this month.

Ha. I finally know what that means now.

Anyways, check out the special theme for June:

    and

    http://theshizz.org/forum/index.php?showtopic=25303

    read the first post carefully

I'm going to pull for the heroes, but the boss side seems to have a clear advantage.

The hero side: chrono trigger hero theme's (doesn't have to be the main hero), rpg hero themes, fighting game good guy stages, especially street fighter. I'm still researching possible other hero choices. I will get back to you on that.

The boss side: lots of obvious stuff.

Question: Can you think of more examples? Reply here and let me know. Try to include boss AND hero examples to make it fair!

  10. It's just 5 days away. Prepare for the ultimate showdown. Then after I listen to all the awesome entries and watch the results, the next theme will be announced. This next theme has been promised to be along the same lines as Fire Versus Ice, in other words, a special theme. Keep an eye out for this. I can almost guarantee that it will be as exciting as last year, maybe even better.

For those that don't know about the Fire v. Ice month, it was http://dod.vgmix.com/past/may07/

    epic.

    anyways, let's get it on.

p.s. i heard that a popular tea will be representing in Gradius month. I enjoy honey and peach flavor.

  11. Whats that supose to mean? Are you disrespecting me? :|

also, I myself can play guitar, a bit.

What I meant by "REAL remixers" was people other than me. Everyone other than me. I guess I should rephrase that, so here I go:

I hope my small files here sparks some interest for FUTURE remixes by great remixers. psychog13 is included, because he is a great remixer. now he needs to give me midi drum tracks so that i can improvise on top of it, then he will become an EXCELLENT remixer. Flawless Victory.

Also, when I said "REAL remixers" I was thinking about people who have songs up here at OCRemix. So it was a call to them. Bah, who needs em right? We can do it without them. psychodog style.

  12. I hope my little files here sparks some interest in the REAL remixers to do a gunstar mix. how sweet would it be to hear a pro take on these wild songs? let's do this. i'm working through the night every day this week. i will continue to bombard this thread with my songs!

    let's do this peeps!!!!

    MaliceX, can you play guitar?

  13. psychodog13, that's pretty sweet what you did. those videos are hilarious too. anyways, i'm gonna attempt something gunstar soon and i'll post it here (exclusively). then you can tell me if it sucks. be back soon hopefully.
