  1. I really love this piece, its one of the best mixes off the VOTL soundtrack OCR put together and that really is saying something. Ive enjoyed Jovettes other pieces for a long time now most notably kono sekai de when he was simply DJCrono. In any case this song represents so much growth and change from him its pretty amazing what he put together, Not only does this song sound great, its extremely hard to classify it or to compare it to anything else. I think its great from the metal sections to my favorite part the harmonizing at the end. That said to those who think it "sucks" or they hated it thats fine, you are wrong but thats fine. Why doesn't it suck? Because if you actually have and listen to the FFVII Cids theme original you can fit the lyrics on top without much of an imagination at all and it fits... Also as already stated there are two distinct styles going on in the original, what Jovette did was expand on those and ran with them and blended them together much as they were in the original. When I hear the orginal now I can also hear the lyrics in my head along with it. What Jovette has pulled off is nothing short of masterful. So while I can understand if its not your cup of tea or you personally not liking it and thats fine thats a perfectly acceptable opinion. Saying that the remixer did a bad job on the original or just saying it sucks however is just absolutely wrong. There really can't be too much debate on it when you listen to the original and the remix. This remix is a great interpretation on the original and it took a lot of talent to pull off which Jovette obviously has a lot of. And to quote rathoi: "And that's part of what's missing here. Cid's Theme is probably one of the most memorable in FF7, and I don't believe that this remixer did it justice" My friend Id like to see you or anyone else do better and that is a very steep challenge right there.' In other news someone did make an amv out of this song:
  2. Well its different from the original but I wouldn't go so far as to say its better, I do enjoy the Japanese and US versions a lot as this is one of my favorite songs period. DJPretzel does a great job making this normally more somber song a catchy pop tune. Im not going to lie or suck up and say that hes great at singing, hes ok or good at best, however he has a great ability to turn that into a strength by again transforming this song into something else, an uptempo catchy song that you can listen to as a guilty pleasure. I do get a lot of enjoyment out of this song. If you are going to remix a song I think its better to make it your own rather than just karaoke a close rearrangement of it and thats what Pretzel has done here, he made it his own with great success.
  3. Ive listened to OCR for years and one of the first remixers I found on the site about 5 years ago was Ziwtra's Downwind piece. He might just be my favorite remixer on the site. I really have enjoyed all of his songs for years and between listening to them in my car, or in my mp3 player while jogging or at home while doing various things; I would be willing to say he is someone that I would pay money to listen to his music. I am very glad he came back because for awhile I was unsure if he had just disappeared on everyone. I hope he does continue to make music because he is so good at it. As for this piece its very relaxing its almost something you should fall asleep to at night. The relatively uptempo part of this song starts at 2:46 and is definitely the best part. But really this song is one of his more mellow pieces in general. Its definitely easy listening and considering I haven't played FFA since I was a kid so I am not to familiar with the source off hand but I do recall Square making some memorable tunes on this limited hardware for both this game and FFLII for example. The subway part of the song is a decent interlude and certainly sets it apart from most other remixes. Well thats enough of a novel from me, I hope ziwtra finds desire and opportunity to create more music for us.
  4. I have to say that I really really love this song, its extremely powerful whether you played the game or not. Whether the beginning is too long I really dont have an opinion, its great but then I can listen to COTMM's Ruined World repeatedly and its a 6 minute long soundscape. I really do enjoy the "techno" in the middle, but then I really dont like most techno so whether this is technically impressive or not it doesn't really matter to me, it sounds great and I am actually happy that it doesn't follow some stupid formula to sound like every other techno/trance piece ever created, which is the problem with that genre anyway. The fact that the song has parts where it breaks up into piano is its strength and some of the best Techno/Trance tracks on this site have non techno/trance elements to them in my humble opinion. GLL great piece one im going to be listening to for even years from now, thank you for that.
