  1. However if you wanted to pick one to review I would really appreciate it
  2. Very clever modulations, I wish I thought of them for my arrangement of this
  3. Woo, falling behind. That's OK though since I said I was gonna be on break about now anyway. So this'll be it until the new year, enjoy. 12/21/11 - Curses (Great Deku Tree ( )
  4. I'll just say I'm gonna break my rule of not making cheesy epicish wall of sound film style music, cause I've hacked it two or three other ways and it just aint working. Plus the Hobbit trailer came out and it's kinda got me in that vibe edit: gawd I've got people coming over so I might not make it today, but it's coming along very nicely
  5. In fact it switches off between a (contra)bassoon and a (contra) bass clarinet. And yep those are string harmonics at the end.
  6. Oh man suddenly I'm playing to an empty room. That's ok though, the show must go on. Deku tree this evening, hopefully
  7. 12/19/11 - Brevity is… wit? (Kepora Gebora (owl theme) (source}) A lot of styles jam packed in a very small space. In the words of George Lucas "I might've gone too far in a couple of places." Or maybe Stephen Malkmus "So much style it's wasted." take your pick. I hope you enjoy, and try to spot the cameo of the Owl Theme from Link's Awakening (it's easy if you know it). Why the trippy fade-out at the end? Umm I had a normal ending planned but this one was a lot more fun. Plus I figure it ties into the fact that the owl is REALLY the sage of light, or whatever. [edit] some bizarre clipping on this one too. I'll upload a new version tomorrow, don't know what the deal is.
  8. Whoaa missed this yesterday cause I was out of town unexpectedly and I forgot to upload it in advance. Anyway, here you go! 12/16/11 - Come Inside (House (source) and Shop {source}) [levels got screwed up on this, I'll need to pop out a new version sometime]
  9. Under the wire today! But it's a good one: 12/12/11 - The Busketeers (Hyrule Market ( ))Ending is a little awkward because it segues into the next track (Hyrule Castle Courtyard, which isn't ready just yet)
  10. A lot of glassware, samples of glass harmonicas, musical glasses, bowed vibes things like that. Plus some flutes, finally some strings I think. Maybe more I'm forgetting, these all go by in a blur. Yeah there's definitely a lot of work still to be done, but when I work this fast I always end up reaching a point where I can still hear tons of little niggling problems but my brain won't tell me how to fix them. I can literally spend as much time fixing one dumb problem as I did on the entire rest of the piece. I'm sure folks here can relate. (either shop/house or hyrule market today depending on how things go. I have a lot of dumb errands to do)
  11. That reminds me, I might be taking a break the week of Christmas and New Years since I'll be out of town. Unless my buffer is big enough by then...
  12. Unfortunately for shop fans, today we're going inside the Deku Tree: 12/12/11 - The Well Tuned Deku (Inside the Deku Tree ( ))This one might seem kind of bland at first glance, but there's more going on than meets the eye. Lots of subtle tuning things - everything is based on the overtone series with B as the root, meaning lots of microtuning, and when the big chord finally comes in we have all kinds of near quarter-tones and other crazy shit.
  13. Definitely, just want to let them gestate for a while before they possibly get accepted and become etched in stone. It's sad that OCR WIPs is like, the only low pressure place to put this kinda thing now and get decent feedback. RIP VGmix Haha I tried many times over the years and eventually realized the problem was that the whole thing I was going for was very insincere (if that makes sense) and just incompatible with the zelda musical style in my mind, which is often noticeably unpretentious and very rarely "epic." Basically I felt like it was my high school self trying to use zelda music to show how clever I was (and in the process ruining the things that make zelda tunes great) instead of doing out of appreciation for the music and respect for koji kondo. I'm glad you liked prelude though, that was an important piece for me at the time. I might gather up all my attempts and put them in this thread with some commentary as a kind of bonus feature. tomorrow: either a house/shop combo ooorrr "inside the deku tree"
  14. Alright yall it's Kokiri time. Starts out with Fairy Flying but I also divided them into two tracks in case anyone like, hates one of the tunes or something. 12/9/11 - i don't wanna grow up (Fairy Flying ( ) and Kokiri Forest ( ) OR as two seperate tracks Part 1 and Part 2I'm pretty happy with this except I think it might need some serious EQ hatcheting which I am just not in the mood to do. Thoughts?
  15. Some short things I'll do straight up, some I'll blend with longer tunes (like Friday I'm probably going to be posting Fairy Flying/Kokiri Village as one arrangement) some maybe I'll just do them at the end for fun if I can't manage either of the above. But yeah the idea is everything gets done, even the ambient soundscapey stuff
  16. Haha, yours is quite a bit more ambitious than mine. Reminds me of Sufjan Steven's defunct 50 state project.
  17. Thanks! I know what you mean about the harmonic stuff (although honestly the one you cited is one of my favorites - the stuff I'm not too comfortable with is when the organ really comes in, and in fact I might change it in a new version, although part of the point of this ruthless schedule is to not nitpick every goddamn thing so much and just shove stuff out there). I'm planning on setting up someplace somewhere, and each new thread will have a link to previous entires. With a mod's permission I'd actually love to keep everything isolated to this one specific thread, since at the rate I'm planning on going there are going I'm going to need a lot of threads....
  18. just go to the last page or go here even!: http://zazmusic.bandcamp.com/album/seven-years-a-work-in-progress http://zazmusic.bandcamp.com/album/seven-years ……although not necessarily in order (see below for the tracks in game order)!
  19. haha yeah, who knew Mario could sound so much like James Brown?
  20. You're right that it's repetitive, but it's the chords/rythmn that are repetitive, not the melody. There's actually a lot of variation in the melody and very little repetition (for disco anyway) Anyway I'm definitely not blaming the judges, they are completely justified in whatever they end up doing. I'm glad this has gotten out to so many people anyway and I hope I can get a more real disco mix on the site sometime in the future
  21. ^Very nice, very fun to listen to! I'm thinking about doing a proper disco mix since it kind of breaks my heart that this won't get accepted and for some reason Disco + Mario just seems to make sense
  22. Unfortunately I've done all I can to bring down the hiss, it's there to stay. It's a shame cause I'm sure it'll get the mix rejected, and I really like this one
