finished FFVII - Interrupted by Fireworks

Another plugin to consider for mastering is Melodyne. Your violinist did a great job, but if you really want to LOCK in the tones and any slightly sharp or flat notes, Melodyne is a tuner (don't mistake for auto-tune) for any recorded audio (voice or any instrument). You can adjust an audio track with midi mapping, just like a sampled instrument, and take a sharp note and make it nail on the exact note, and it does it seamlessly. http://www.celemony.com/cms/index.php?id=demos You can use it FULLY for 30 days as a trial, and even save your projects with it, just like you bought it. There's lots of great video tutorials too showing you how to use it. I'm throwing these out, because this mix could shine so bright. The writing is great, but don't blow it with the final mix! Our ears don't want to get tired! -

Since I was having a hard time finding A/B demos, I put up this as an example of Ozone using the Exciter and Widener preset. (there's TONS of them) First half is without Ozone, 2nd half is with. Exact same snippets from the song. I believe this was the first project I used it on. Pardon the compression and style of music. Yours will want a more delicate touch (definitely on compression). http://www.jaredhudson.com/temp/acidraindropsozonedemo.mp3 -

May I also recommend a mastering plugin called Ozone. It's absolutely fantastic. Mix your project, then run Ozone as your last plugin on the master channel, add the preset you want (I like the Exciter & Widener), and it does wonders to your mix, lets it breath with life. The presets alone are great. Highly recommended, for all your mixes. http://www.izotope.com/products/audio/ozone/ -

Great piece! I love it! Great performances and emotion, and beautiful remix of a beautiful song. Only quibble I have is the mixing. There's some clipping, and some of the EQ needs adjusted, as well as some widening and placement. The piano does seem overbearing in some parts, mixing wise. The piano I recommend, that is warm and dark is the Malmsjo Piano (which I've used). I'd be tempted to ask for the raw audio stems (no effects plugins) so I could mix it sweeeeeet. Site http://www.artvista.net A Demo from the site (many to listen to) http://www.artvista.net/Mp3%27s/128%20Kbit/reverie.mp3 You have a winner here. Just a few more steps, and you will drink the champaign. -
You got it all wrong. My orchestra is made of a hybrid of mutants and banana people. One of them plays the AK-47.

The fact that you have one is already great! You could get just a couple soloists and have the rest samples, and it'll still do wonders to a piece. Don't feel bad. That's awesome. Some of the best remixes I've heard had just one live solo instrument.

wip electro house - production feedback/advice?
Jared Hudson replied to halc's topic in Post Your Original Music!
I'm digging some of the synths. Very much like Deadmau5. The beat however needs thickened up quite a bit. That kick drum is not slamming like I want it to. It needs to be deeper, while holding a solid punch. Also run some compression on all the drums to really get them slamming hard. Nice start. -
I actually am working on a new remix, more of a suite. 120 piece live orchestra. Stay Tuned....

Aw I'm touched. Um......HI!

wip escaflowne (playstation) - endless expanse of field and sky
Jared Hudson replied to melody's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
Good stuff. I'm a big fan of Yoko Kanno, and especially Escaflowne. You also did one of my favorite themes from it. Live violin was a solid addtion. Recommendation: Find yourself a live woodwind and guitar player. Do job postings on college campuses, music ones preferred, and have them submit a demo or tryout. As you know, solo instruments beg to be live, and adds so much more emotion. Your writing is good, sample programming is decent, but a few more parts need to be live. A few more things, and this piece will be killer. Good start. -
Slender Suits - The Documentary of Slender Man (creepy)

Thanks for the comments. I'm hoping to help with the mythology as it keeps growing. There were callins about this thing on Coast to Coast AM a year ago. LOL -
Something I started. String section and solo horn. http://www.jaredhudson.com/music/Strings%20and%20Things.mp3

wip Something kinda like BT
Jared Hudson replied to Jared Hudson's topic in Post Your Original Music!
I'm using a lot of spectrasonics stuff, Omnisphere, Stylus, and some Kontakt 4 sample sets, then running it through some compression and mastering plugins. I'm just playing, dibbing, and dabbing with the sounds and manipulating them a bit. -
But not as good. Kinda reminds me of a Wii commercial. (I'm probably gonna scrap this). In rough sketch phase. Uploaded for anyone that cares to listen. http://www.jaredhudson.com/music/Hudgroove.mp3

There's a lot of good elements here. However, the song's structure appears cluttered and too busy. I'm craving to have your best parts all running at once. A. Find a solid melody you can build off of. Make sure the lead instrument you choose won't get your ears tired when listening to the song. B. If it's house, that beat needs to be cookin a majority of the song, even if you drop the hi-hats and bass drum from time to time. C. Make sure you have a hot beat (like 30 seconds in) with a smooth GROOVIN' bass line. These two elements are oh so important. D. Add flavors and characters as backups. The square and saw waves you have running can have great uses, flutters, blips, counter rhythms, etc. E. Your mix is clear and sounds decent with its current compression. Mixing and crafting the sound is very important when creating solid rockin house tunes. Check out Ozone as a mastering tool. It's VERY useful. F. Experiment. Find more samples, or even swap around live samples from orchestral works, big bands, etc. You can get some great sounds. Again. There's lots of promise, but this sounds like an experimental project, and not a finished and crafted tune. For some inspiration, check out Freemasons and Shapeshifters for some KILLER house tracks. Pandora those guys if you need to. Great stuff.
