  1. If you REALLY want to amp it up, find yourself a good female singer, run it through Melodyne for pitch mastering, and get some nice harmonized vocals in there. Could be an epic track. "rain is the rhythm of the sky" la la la shit like that. Could be HOT For the style of vocals, check out the artist Haley. She has her own record, but has done lots of recording with Kaskade.
  2. Ozone is amazing. I use that as well. Interesting that Ableton has that much power for this genre. The synths are nice. I'm still slightly old school tinkering with Omnisphere and some Kontakt 4 stuff, but may look into plugins like Massive. I may have to take a look at the Nomad plugins. Panning is always a nice trick for spacial fields as you said. BTW, have you submitted your Chemical Zone remix to OCR? That's a hot track (maybe adjust the outro like a Deadmau5 or Kaskade song, so it can transition well for a DJ, rather than the 80's style fadeout).
  3. Sounds good. Very Kaskade, slightly Deadmau5. Excellent production. I'm curious as to what you use for mixing and mastering, and what plugins you mainly focus on (compression settings, EQ, anything else). I've heard a few of your tunes on soundcloud. This is a style you excel in. I recommend you push forward in this genre as hard as you can. By your post, I'm assuming you used Ableton for sequencing and production?
  4. Pretty much what the title says. Started out as an experiment, then I piddled with it too much. This is what I got so far. http://www.jaredhudson.com/temp/dance%20something.mp3
  5. Very nice update. Things I hear about the piano still though......do you have EQ running on it? As in, did you slice all the bottom end? It doesn't feel as warm as Malmsjo should sound. Don't chop out that bottom end, or at least give it more! Adding a smooth base line with the piano also adds tons of warmth. I also feel you could run the pedal on the piano a little more for smoother lines, but that will be a delicate touch to make sure it doesn't wash altogether. My 2 cents. Sounds great! Side Note: Experiment with the velocities on the piano. Sometimes lowering a note from 80 to 70 can give you a whole different attack or feel, depending on the sample set. Then you can bump the volume a tad if needed.
  6. Something I wrote one morning. I think the piano reminds me of BT's Flaming June way too much. http://www.jaredhudson.com/music/Jared%20Hudson%20-%20Electron%20Highway.mp3
  7. The mix is killing this piece. I can't hear anything, just reverb cranked to 200%, and super boomy drums that drown out everything. Also, I feel like I'm hearing some phase plugins running or something weird with the panning. I have on nice headphones, and my ears are irritated with the EQ. Get your mix to a listenable version, then the critique on writing can begin. Take off ALL the reverb, then notch it up slowly on your master channel. Everything should sound very clear, yet with hints of a hall reverb. (hard to actually say). If you have phaser / flange, or any kind of stereo width plugins running, take it off, and use PANNING ONLY for placement. Also, you should NOT be compressing orchestra music like it's a pop song on the radio. Compression should be carefully applied, and minimal at most. Good luck.
  8. Still got my original copy of Grandia, in mint condition. Great game and battle system. Voice acting was a little rough at times, but very fun indeed!
  9. Great stuff! The production is outstanding! I'd say you definitely are catching the flavor of David Arnold. LASS is also the shiznat! I'm surprised no one has commented on this. I'd be curious to know your mastering technique, to get that wide/big sound. I get a little lazy and run my stuff through Ozone, but it does a good job.
  10. Thx. Have no idea when a real recording will be done. It could be a long time.
  11. I will punch you in the dick, and you'll ask me to do it again.
  12. It's got some orchestra stuff in it. Sorry the audio isn't that good. LOL Super Mario 25th Anniversary http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I65Am4o-688 Clearer Audio
  13. Forza 4 is going to blow minds. Yes, this video is ALL game graphics. BTW, Jeremy Clarkson has audio commentary on ALL the cars in the game, plus of course, the Top Gear test track, which totally owns the Gran Turismo 5 version. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ljuZMOCYsyo http://www.gametrailers.com/video/e3-2011-forza-motorsport/715284
  14. GTA 4, that's it. After about 3 nonstop hours of driving on sidewalks, you'll understand. BTW, you can go to half.com and buy most of the games recommended here LIKE NEW for an average of $10-$30 a game. You could easily get 3-4 games under $100. That's how I do it, and it rules. They look as new as taking the shrink wrap fresh off.
  15. As far as the package, I had a AMD Opteron 1.6ghz (oc'd to 2.4ghz) back in the day running with 2GB of ram. I definitely ran out of room quickly loading 20-30 tracks, and found myself freezing a LOT. The QLSO orchestra should run OK on your machine, but don't expect to run too many tracks. If you run it on your internal hard drive (not recommended), 2.5" drives don't have the robustness and speed as a typical 3.5", and you're gonna lose polyphony. On the other hand, even Firewire 800 will have its limitations and buffer issues. A laptop is not the ideal setup to house heavy hitting sample libraries. If you got one of the new Thunderbolt Macbooks with a thunderbolt drive, you might be OK. It's doable, but it's going to strain your system, even with 4GB of RAM. I recommend getting a decent PC tower for $500-$800, load it with 12-16GB of ram, and multiple 500GB-1TB drives....and a quad core processor. That's the more ideal setup. If you have some cash to spend though, an SSD for your OS is KEY for music workstations. Runs your software so much better. Site note: You'll also want a good soundcard, whether it be a PCI card or Firewire interface. M-Audio and MOTU are good places to start. RME if you get really serious and have moola.
  16. This is great. I imagine denim shirts, sunglasses, and jet skis. Hit the waves bro!
  17. Reading the title of this thread, I keep hearing Bill Paxton from Aliens.
  18. Really thinking of giving Prototype Raptor my money. Good shit man. I'll shamelessly plug. Just posted 4 live orchestra pieces to download for free on my website. YAY! www.jaredhudson.com
  19. Totally digging the Prototype Raptor stuff. Very Deadmau5 and Kaskade.
  20. Please tell me I'm not the only one that's played this. EPIC BEYOND BELIEF
  21. Good God finish this. You're sitting on remix GOLD. I would actually love it if you took many classy tunes like this and made an album. FINISH FINISH FINISH!
  22. Not sure where this is at in the process, but after what I THINK was an updated version that I heard, here's my critique. I still love the piece. GOOD Mix is MUCH better, didn't hear clipping, lots of space, good performances NEEDS IMPROVEMENT Piano sounds "tinny" like in a telephone. We lose the warmth of the piece, there's no bottom end. Sounds almost like a toy piano in some places. The piano still needs some mids nearing the lower range to get that blanket warm sound. If anything, I'd almost prefer to pull the highest frequencies down a tad, and boost the low, giving it less bite. Related to bottom end, the bass that's brought in later sounds good, but there's still not enough mid range to fill the gap. I'd also prefer most of the song with the fuller sound. You could comp the Bass Cello with electric bass, real soft and sexy. Another option that works really well is some deep warm synth pads. They add a lot of meat to many mixes, electronic, acoustic, orchestral, you name it. A simple demo of guitar with synth pads. Subtle and affective. http://www.jaredhudson.com/temp/padguitardemo.mp3 String writing could use some work. You have great opportunities to write more melodic cello lines, or to comp the piano or violin. It's more interesting and musical than whole notes the entire song. ----- Piece is still good, but just a few glaring production issues, and minor writing. Keep it up bra!
