FRUITY LOOPS 101 - PLEASE direct -ALL- FL questions here

right click the volume knob and select edit events. Set it to the volume you want it to start at. If you change the volume this way in the middle of the song but not at the beginning, it will play at whatever volume it stops at when it plays again, this is why you edit the volume in the beginning. -

to make your own sounds use wasp, simisynth, and 3xosc (there may be more than that, but its all i use) Also, there are effects you can use in fruity to alter an existing sound (cuttin and resonatin, high pass low pass etc, overdrive/distortion) and there are effects you can find on the net that will actually morph the sound adding lfo and such (like one i use sometimes called trancemittor). For synths you dont want to use soundfonts if you can help it (though some are really good) because the envelope on the sound shrinks the higher you go. With 3xosc you will have the same envelope on all notes. A few other things like this happen when using soundfonts. Plus i havent found but one soundfont that uses the bottom note all the way to the top, the generators in fruity can. If im wrong about anything i said, sorry. Hope i was at least some help. -

I listen to this song every day. Crono, i now think this is your best work. I held your wild arms remix above this for a long time, but after listening to the two everyday enough, i really prefer this one. EVERYONE DOWNLOAD THIS SONG NOW! (unless you hate rap) Crono, do you have anything new planned? I cant help but wonder man, i crave your music almost as much as i crave shael rileys. (and most everyone knows im a shael freak) -

i think analoq deserved first place with his song. listen to his song and then listen to the song "breakfast at tiffany's" by "deep blue something" i believe and you will see just how pro that remix sounds. Though i absolutely love this song, it just doesnt stand up there with analoqs... though i think both mixes are absolutely wonderful. darke, please please please make more upbeat stuff. if you do happy hardcore i garuntee youll get a good review from me, and im a HH freak, so if you take on ahppy hardcore, you can ask me for critique. -
OCR00561 - Final Fantasy "Matoya's Hot with Destiny"
DM Lee replied to orkybash's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
I love this mix, i cant believe i didnt review this before. matoya is my favorite theme of all time, and this just makes me love it more. I am going to submit a happy hardcore version of the matoya theme soon after i fix a lot of things in it. I am also doing an IMC mix which starts out with, in my opinion, matoyas theme at its finest. But it switches into the ff1 battle theme, and from there who knows where it will go. I will submit other matoya mixes in the future as i make them as well. Matoyas theme is so freaking awesome. I love this mix. I really really love shaels work a lot. His mega man mix is top notch as is this. There are issues in this which get to me, but nothing "bad". I love the instrument and percussion choices... except that 80's sounding tom in some spots. I think everyone should listen to this, and this needs more reviews. Also, i spoke with shail about a month and a half ago to find he was unable to do any mixing, but then i seen a post of his a couple weeks ago, if that long ago, pretty much saying hes mixing again. I really look forward o more of your work shael. I am against fanboyism, but man, i cant help that shaels so freakin awesome. He did a funny song, which i think could always bring some fun to ocr. He does breakbeat. He did the mega man songs with clips from the show and i loved that show. That remix is the best breakbeat i have ever heard. Matoyas theme is my favorite theme. Man, its like shael is like out there to mix for me, lol. keep it up. -

Just because someone doesn't like something means that they are closed minded?? THAT is close-minded... Personally, rap is not my kind of music. In fact, this remix wasn't at all my boat floater. I do agree that Cyryl could've been a little more tactful but some of you sure do go off the deep end. And just curious, what's up with all of the self-love sigs out there? stereo typing a song because of one element is called a closed mind. If one bad thing stops you from seeing the good, your mind is not open enough to take in all that it can. People dont liek the rapping... so they hated the intro too? this makes no sence. If someone doesnt like the song, they state what they dont like, or they casually claim that it wasnt there cup of tea, but congradulate the person on pulling the style well, which crono did. If you dont like rap, that does not make this a bad song. Some people dont like trance, so would they be right in saying ffmusic djs music is bad? well they dont like it, it must be bad. And yeah, i will go overboard on someone when they go overboard for no reason. The guy crossed the line, and then stayed on the other side for a few more minutes while he pissed and moaned. Theres a limit to criticism, and theres a limit to stereo typing music, what this guy did was offensive in my opinion. Its in the past now, many more will do the same thing. But if nobody says anything, people like this will continue to bash music without just cause. People like this need to listen to the topman mix on the site if its still here. You want to complain, check out that mix. -
Great work ffmusic dj, i really loved this mix. Still has a ton of repetitiveness, but as trance it works great. Very commercial sounding. The vocal sounding synth at 3:06 does clip quite a bit for a second, but not too bad... its only so annoying because everythign fades out and then you get a section focusing around a synth... and it clips almost right away. That was just annoying. The sounds you used were great. The kick still drowns out a lot in this mix man. The bass is good, but the kick is still just a bit too loud. Overall i enjoyed this a lot. Comparing terras part 2 and your mix, they arent that similair... yours is trancey his is more ravey trance... whoah, but there is a synth that sounds almost exactly the same (the main melody lead synth) wow, very very alike in a couple parts now that i listen... but yeah the two are siginificantly different "overall"... OH MY GOD! HORRIBLE ENDING ALERT! im keeping this but i didnt care for the kick, the vocal synth really didnt appeal to me as it sounded out of key at certain instances, and it was repetitive... sounds fuckin awesome on my system though

Thank you for creating a song that i can play on repeat for well over an hour. I dont like the original because i perticularly dont like sonic but i really love upbeat, and since this is from imc how could i resist? lol. Thanx a lot, and please make a lot more of this style. *EDIT*EDIT*EDIT* I cant really think of a way to describe the joy i get from hearing this. I love it! -

wow, this was the most N00B post ive seen in months...FUCK YOU! I just wanted to say that, and that i dont think many realise that crono seems he was going for a more technical and fuller mix than usual. True it could have been better if it was more smooth and groovish, but then the technicality of the piece would very much be lost. I do think his other works are better, but this is very very technical and arranged well. The samples should be less in your face or just quieted down a bit. I think you did just fine by this mix crono. Keep it up. I look forward to your next work... oh and i look forward to seeing you around anime remix more. Hey, if you would WIP your stuff, you probably would have gotten all this criticism about the samples before submitting. (just a suggestion) this is like saying megaman music should not be done with guitars because its techno based. It doesnt matter what song or game someone uses as long as they do it well. Im sure there has been tons of horrible remixes for every game, does that mean the genres those people tried wont work? no. Im not attacking you, just saying telling people they should not mix a song, or a genre, or a game is just stupid in my opinion. -

No way, man! It's all about the shoutout! Do eet! Are you serious?! You like it? I got the impression nobody like it...... weird, I was wrong. I did for fun and props, but I was starting to think it was annoying people or something. Thanks Its not annoying and im sure more people like it than you realise. I love it, but anytime you hear anything too much it gets annoying. Dj clue (whom you used as an example for this before) gets really tiresome hearing it after the fortieth time... though it is nice when you dont know dj clue did the beat for something and then all of a sudden "dj clue!" and your like oooooooh... My point is, i like it, just dont over do it. A couple without would be kewl, or maybe just with your name into the rapping once or twice and that be that. lol, everyone knows a dj crono mix when they hear it even without the self promotion, lol. Well, you know how to make you music outstanding so however you want to do it man. Ah yes, the DJ Crono thing. Yeah, I'm working on songs right now that don't utilize my "DJ CRONO" shout =P Indeed I am. Check out djpretzel's review. what about the deeper vocals? they sound like someone else, you too? -

I have been listening to this song again now, as i havent been home much today. This mix is a lot better than i gave it credit for. This shit is tight! I only hope one day i will be this good, though you sir will get far far better as your music is some of best ive heard. Not one thing about this song bugged me today. Everything was like perfect and though some of the stuff i said before still stands i think it kinda works for it anyways. lol. The dj crono thing though, its fine in this song, but i still think you should do a song or two without it. (my opinion) *EDIT*EDIT*EDIT* I know at least some of these vocals are him (the higher sounding ones). Are the lower ones you in a lower key? if so that makes this even more amazing that you did all the vocals. if its someone else thats just as kewl. -

I agree with what is being said thus far, sounds like it was forced, or tried too hard or something. anyways ill just paste what i said before Im listening to your new mix crono. Your hiphop is so original man. I love it. I cant wait for more of your work. THis mix isnt as good as your wild arms, but still damn good. My only complaint is the scratches get on my nerves and i cant really understand most the vocals. Other than that its great. Another excellent mix man. I wanted to just point out that DJ CRONO IS UBER COOL FOR BEING A CONSTANT HIPHOP REMIXER AT OCR, YOU KICK ASS, MORE HIPHOP!!!!!!!!!!!! Now, i also want to say, that the piano at first is good later, but as the intro it sounds.... iffy. I think maybe if you slowed the tempo like by 5 or so it could actually open things up, though that would mean redoing the vocals yeah. Just my opinion. Great mix, but could be a lot better. Though i do like this one better than your current one at anime remix. Anyways, i've got a hiphop mix in the works, which i started after hearing yours, you reminded me that i really like making hiphop. I "may" put voc's in it but its unlikely. If you want to check it out ask, i know its rare to hear hiphop around here. YOU KICK SO MUCH ASS. My second favorite remixer and you made my second favorite song. I know second isnt first, but out of the like gajillion mixes here, thats damn good. And i prefer orch, industrial, and fast trance/techno stuff far over hiphop and you still secured a second place on my fav list. Way to go man. Listening to your songs i know it takes a lot of work, i wish there were a way for your stuff to be produced quicker, i cant get enough. Sorry this is so long, but this is the last thing... In your next song, please do not do your usual "Dj Crono" pimping yourself out during your mix. While its cool to do, it does get old. Sorry this wasnt the best review ever, but hopefully you dont take it too badly. -
OCR00939 - Socket "Trip the Light Fantastic"

I really love the ping ponging synth that was mentioned earlier at :43 also that percussion sample that sounds liek someone going "shhhaa!" is great. This like someone said, doesnt really pick up, it builds back into itself well, and has tons and tons of wonderfully delicious sounds. But overall i thought this wasnt really worth keeping on my hard drive. The main reason im not keeping this is because of 1:52, it sounds like its going to go all anthem on us (if im using the word right) but then as its picking up it trips out and brings you down from the high you almost get. This mix pulls me in too many different directions without really exactly going anywhere. I would have liked this more if it were harder and had something that stood out a lot. I like the synth strings and i like a lot of the processing. Ok, this mix wreaks of awesomeness, but its just not that good in my tastes. I expected something more maybe. Also, its waaaaaaaaaaay repetitive in my opinion. this seems liek one of those mixes you hear thats constantly building to some super fat awesome part of the song... but doesnt really go anywhere, and i dont like the ending. Great work djp, just not my preference of musical style. -

I actually exported the song that lost notes from the tiny slices both checked and unchecked. The unchecked one was fine. Dont know why it would do this... and to be honest i like the one with the missing notes better, lol. Made it have a sort of edge. -

DM Lee replied to starla's topic in Music Composition & Production
If you export your mp3 with "tiny slices" checked, uncheck it and you may get some of your notes back (i never used tiny slices then recently i did and ended up with missing notes) Also, it could be the soundfont you are using. Some soundfonts only register notes "up to" and "down to" certain points. Like most drumkits will not have anything underneath the 3rd octave (the 3 on the left side of the piano roll) this also goes for most fonts of any kind. ALso a lot will not go above 8. Also, for the bad sounds, if you have anything in the piano roll that is at full volume (not the channel, the individual notes) you should probably lower its volume because from what ive noticed putting things at their max velocity even at normal volumes on the channel can have weird effects. Also, make sure the notes that do play well (if any) make sure you dont go too high in volume past that. You said its nly a few instruments that sound bad after the export so i figured its not your soundcard or fruity or anything like that. When i first started mixing, i remember this happening to me (even happened recently and made me feel horrible the whole day because it sounded just so bad... i was like "How could i do that?") and when i was mixing it would sound fine, but then the mo3 sucks. My winamp always has the bass up a little and the treble up a little so it boosts those frequncies and if they are already too loud it will make it worse. So your eq settings could be making things "worse" but theres obviously a problem prior to export. You should not need your bitrate higher than 160, rarely for high quality stuff that needs it, 190, but i never have exported anything over 160 and seem to do fine. I hope i helped some and please those who know how to explain this shit better, dont get mad if i said something wrong, im just trying to help where i can. *EDIT* I did not see that last post... but new people to fruity could use this info. -

really, that sucks ass. I wont change em til im done with the whole thing though, too much to go back through and make sure it all works when im gonna do more and have to go through those and eventually get mixed up and end up with a big mess... but yeah, the important parts are the questions and answers. Anyways, post in the other thread now, lol. -

not my personal taste but its still done very very well and the sounds used are fuckin amazing I really liked this one time, but with its legth of intro i can only handle it so many times before i find myself skipping the beginning, enjoying the middle and changing songs before it finishes. Excellent work, i wish i could do something like this, but its really not my style and sorry but this was extremely repetitive, and i only say extremely a couple times a day. lol. -

breakbeats generally do just that, break the beat. And often the use of gating is essential in breakbeat music, but its not absolutely necesary. For example, if you have a beat that follows a melody, you will drop everything out of the song for a measure except the essential parts of the beat and the main part of the melody and then have the melody not play on any sections where no percussion is present (use gating for this). And then viola, you have a break in the beat. Breakbeat songs would consist of doing this constantly throughout a single mix, well not constantly, but enough to make the song be classified as a breakbeat. Usually breakbeats are accompanied by a general drum n bass beat throughout. Dont everything i said too seriously since im not so experienced, but im just saying what i do know of breakbeats
