Ok, I've been wanting to do something like this for a while, take a nice gentle orchestral source and go Electronic cut up distortion mad on it!

The arrangement isn't finished yet, and it's still needs a bit of tidying up done to it in my opinion, but i'd really like some opinions on how it's going so far.

Oh and should have mentioned originally i'm going for this sort of sound:

    Thanks for any feedback!

  2. I'm no good with anything xbox, so hopefully someone here can help me.

So basically my disc drive is broken, I've tried repairing it myself (as it's way out of warranty) but to no avail, so now it's looking like if i want it to work i'll have to buy a new drive.

    So I have two questions:

    1) Does the replacement drive have to be the exact same make and model as the original?

    2) Will this new drive be plug and play ready?

    Thanks for any help

  3. Thanks for all your help with this guys, seriously it wouldn't be half as good as it is now without your critiques. I'm going to take a break from this piece and work on others (more than likely more FF8 pieces...) for a few weeks then come back at this with a fresh perspective, so hopefully you'll hear a further improvement sometime in the future.

  4. Can I make the suggestion that next time you make a thread only put one WIP in it, to critique one song can take a fair amount of time and text, so if you want people to critique all three it's more likely you'll only get a very brief review of each piece which won't really help much

So i too will just focus on the pokemon track as it's the source i know the best. Basically just echoing Spakku here but the main problem is how unhuman it sounds, it's not alway just a case of velocity changes, changes in attack and note length etc, in your case I would say the underlining problem is that some parts aren't humanly possible to play.

For example, the track has lots of glissandos, which if it were to be played by an actual guitarist would more than likely be played as a slide, rather than very rapidly strumming on each different fret.

But positive are I think you've got your reverb there or there abouts, certainly not drowned in it and gives it a natural sound.

    So in summary:

Reverb = Good, but guitar arrangement needs to be rethought so it's more believable that it's being played by a human. I'd suggest you listen to Rodrigo y Gabriela as they're probably the closest sound to what you're aiming for.

  5. Once again, I apologize. May I please have some reviews that are congruent with the subject at hand?
I don't think you have good enough quality sounds to work with atm. :P

I had a quick listen to each of them, I would suggest you work on your production. Whatever tools you're using, know them inside-out, and if you find that there's something you want to do that they can't do, see what free resources there are out there that can do it.

I listened to all of them and the quality isn't that bad but in some of the covers I don't hear the source at all :whatevaa: and others sounded too much like the original to be excepted on OCRemix. I liked them though regardless but I don't think OCRemix will except them
Well its certainly a good start for a tribute to Zelda, but I think there could be some improvements made. Personally, I would choose a clear musical direction; either all covers or all remixes. If its covers then the production has to be flawless. If its remixes then both the arrangement and production need to be considered. I'm not sure what your goal with these songs are. After you have decided this, you should post just one of the songs here, so people will be able to give you more accurate and specific feedback on the chosen song. That's what I would do anyway.

You've already had some very good reviews and advice, listen to these people and i promise you will be able to improve any work you do.

  6. Mate you need to calm down a bit, coming on here, being arrogant and wanting to argue with everyone is not cool.

From what i gather you wanted to reproduce the tracks as close to the originals as possible, and seeing as your tracks are getting confused with midi rips you must have done a good job so i'm saying a very genuine well done.

But people here do only try and help you, when they say 'your samples don't sound good enough' or 'your tracks don't sound human enough' they're not insulting you, they're telling you how you can improve on the work you've already done. Having the attitude of 'you're wrong and i'm more experienced than you' is not going to get you taken seriously here, or anywhere else for that matter.

  7. NOTE: Cubase is reaaaaaally bloated, so if you don't have 4 gigs of ram(Preferably 8 gigs), and a smoking processor, don't go over 6 tracks.

I beg you're pardon sir, but i use cubase on my laptop (which is only 2gb of Ram) and can easily go way over 6 tracks...

Anyway! Just listened to your track, the only advice i can add is expanding on Gario's advice about your synth that doesnt mesh in too well. I would add some delay to it to give it more space in the mix, play around with some delay settings and you'll instantly see some change for the better, just don't go overboard with it! To me the rest of the track is nice and relaxed and washed, but that synth is just too punchy and sits on top of everything too much.

Apart from that i like it, it's a very unique take on the source, just mostly needs polishing up now, mostly...

  8. XII's story sucked but its battle system was fantastic

I thought the battle system was incredibly boring, you just set up how you wanted the characters to fight and watched as the game played itself, but yeah, I reckon the story was terrible too, I kept forgetting what the characters relation to each other was. I never even bothered getting to the ending, so i can't say how bad it was...

  9. I just put the last YES vote on it, so yeah, you should be hearing it soon. Pretty sick track as well.

What's happened to this track? I can't find a thing about it in the 'Judges Decisions', or am I just being blind?

  10. Version 3 done now

    Changes made:

Simple single oscilators synths replaced (apart from the one section where i've kept them to add contrast)

Different hi hat patterns with more velocity changes

Please keep your opinions and advice coming, i'm determined to get this track up to scratch and I reckon i'm getting there thanks to you guys

  11. Right, so obviously there's loads of great artists on here, but all of them had to start somewhere.

I'm quite nostalgic and like to keep every piece of work i've done, no matter how bad it is. So I want to see how many people still have the first thing they ever did and if they're brave enough to post it in this thread.

Here's mine, i did it 5 years ago when i was first learning how to use cubase, it's basically a 'remix' of my friends mucking about, you have been warned (seriously, i'd reccommend having your volume low low low)
