  1. No he's not

Is that calm rage speaking out, or you stating that this is a fake article? :<

Yeah, I agree with the Heath Ledger point; it could be very interesting, but of all the possible actors they could've chosen for The Batman....

meh, I'm just excited about a possible Justice League movie later on down the road, so we'll see how this turns out. As long as it doesn't end up along the lines of Ryan Reynolds as Hal Jordan (once again a pretty good actor, but seriously wtf were they thinking -_- ).

  2. I like the concept, and have generally preferred when OCR releases EPs or smaller albums since none of the songs get lost in the sheer size of things, so this tight collection of 9 songs is just about right to my tastes.

This, QFT. I love the huge albums, and not to veer offtopic much, I found the Deus Ex EP to be very enjoyable as well. Would love to hear a few more bite-size albums in between all these mammoth full-course meal albums every now and then. =)

    BITE is an amazing track.

LEGIT. Having a very hard time moving on to the rest of the album because this is stuck on replay for me right now. send help.

Also, looking at that roster it's obvious that the entire album is super dope, but I just want to go ahead and throw down some IMMENSE props for the album art (as well as that trailer design). Seriously, the site design and that album cover is just oooohhhhh gawd, too good.

  3. imho, VideoPad = Windows Movie maker 6.0 and 2.6 with much better usability and slightly more powerful effects. Windows Live Movie Maker on the other hand is a waste of time for any kind of editing that is higher than basic family gathering home video type stuff. Just throwing that out there.

I'd also like to vouch for Final Cut, Vegas, Premiere, and After Effects. To answer your question, I don't think you can go wrong with Vegas and Premiere for the best all-around editing, specifically geared towards Youtube/Vimeo/etc. type videos. But when you do want to take that next step there are a lot interesting things you can do with After Effects, I just would not recommend it for the types of videos you're asking for because it's kind of like bringing a Fire Truck to a water balloon fight.

(most definitely not downplaying Youtube videos; just pointing out that massive video soft-wares like After Effects are capable of doing much, much more than most amateur consumers really need, imo. like-wise, After Effects isn't really something to consider for efficient time-line based editing at all. after Effects is mostly what you'd want to use for creating lots of fancy visuals and effects, hence the title, and like Coop said, it's pretty good for basic animations as well).

I'm most certainly not a pro on this subject (yet :nicework: ) because I mostly just dabble in video editing from time to time when I don't feel like asking others to make videos for me, but judging by what you're asking for I think Sony Vegas should be a pretty nice fit.

and screw all you students out there... you have no idea how ridiculously awesome these student discounts are becoming nowadays. >_<

  4. Hey everybody, just wanted to share some of my thoughts with you all. I pm'd Final Kingdom about these ideas and she's cool with it, so let's hear what the rest of you have to say about it! :)

Firstly, I think it'd be much better to represent ourselves more along the lines of 'Voices of OCR' instead of just an a Capella group; obvious reasons being that, yes, we can keep a particular flair for the a Capella stuff, but then lend our vocal assets to any arrangements (regardless if it also has other instruments or not) that specifically need vocals.

ie., if Brandon Strader's looking for an ominous choir thing for an intro to a metal song or something, we could do that. Or if Tuberz is looking for indie vocal chants, 'ooohs' and 'lala's' throughout a more contemporary song we could do that, too.

All in all, let's keep the a Capella stuff, but not restrict ourselves since there's always plenty of room for little tidbits of vocal stuff in plenty of arrangements, at least in my opinion. XD

Next, probably goes without saying, but we certainly should tackle this with a revolving door approach. For one thing, there's plenty of excellent vocalists around here (a lot of them are in hiding, or haven't had much opportunities to contribute vocals on this kind of level),and for those instances when life happens it'd be great to know that we've got more than 1 tenor/soprano/etc. in case things come out and some of us have to disappear for a while (*cough cough* *ahem* heads up...)

Plus, for those of you who got FinalK's email with the prayer demo? yyyyeeeeahhhh.... that low Eb just isn't going to work for me. I try my best with a lot of things, but there's no possible way for me to be the 'bass' or only low 'baritone/tenor' vocalist.

so what do you ladies and gents say? sounds like a plan?

  5. just signing in real quick to say that it's not a problem. The 29th is much sooner than I, too, had expected, but I'm about to be free of other [ocr] projects.

Had some good and some bad stuff the past few days that kept me really busy.

Bad: some family IRL stuff where way too much shiz has been hitting the fan, so I had to take a break from everything to think clearly.

Good: I overhauled/revamped my recording set up these past two days, and I think the feng shui is pretty dope so far. :nicework:

long story short, I'll be recording and catching up like crazy all day tomorrow, so I'll send something to work with to G-mixer by the end of the day. However (you'll see what I mean once you get my 'stuff,' G), I can tell you right now it's going to be one hella rough draft.... like toy Casio quality.

  6. Ayy, I was going to pm you DusK, but I think it'll be fine if I just go ahead and ask everybody publicly (especially in case somebody is eyeing one of these other sources).

After this I'll stop being wibbly-wobbly with choices.

Since we're going for a straight-up legit late 80s/early 90s MJ approach, do you guys think G-Mixer and I should stick with "Violent Breathing" or instead go for "Fighting in the Street?" Either way, we're going for a "Bad" kind of vibe, but listening back I feel like VBreathing would be a more sensual, mellow MJ song whereas FiTS would translate naturally to that Bad/Dangerous kind of sound.

And, no, I'm personally not interested in just claiming both sources because 1) I just pulled G-Mixer out of the blue so out of respect I'm not going to pull him out of the blue twice ^_^, 2) I know several of you around here love SoR 10 zillion times more than myself so I'm not going to steal somebody else's spot if they've been waiting for this shiz to happen forever, and 3) with the theme of the 90s(/late 80s) I am very much excited in hearing all the many different classic sounds from that era, and not just MJ; ergo, please tell me there's going to be an epic boy-band collab on one of these tracks. :<

  7. Just throwing this out there: If someone could go all-out Michael Jackson on one of these albums, that would be freakin' amazing.

aaaaaand now I'm sold. Haven't even talked to this dude about it at all yet since we need to catch up with other projects, but I'm already going to throw it out there that G-Mixer and I will do something.

Put us down for Violent Breathing. I didn't want to commit to a full track since I'm up to my neck with some music of my own that needs to get out, but if you want Michael Jackson.... believe me, son, I ain't bragging, but WE WILL BRING DAT MJ SPIRIT!

EDIT: also... it was a good learning experience, but I feel like 'Smooth as Honey' is horribly cheesy and gimmicky. We will NOT be making something like that. Don't worry, when we need to be serious and throw it down, G-Mixer and I don't even play around. And at the very least, vocal-wise we'll be just fine, so I'll check out Jason's mix to see if we'll make it a trio or keep it as a duo collab.

  8. Reiterating what everybody else said... ANOTHER album?

    You da man, man. :nicework:

I like this concept very much, spanning out over three years and focusing on stages with this. Very nice approach.

I'm not interested in committing to a full track for this first album since I want to focus on other things this year, but I'd like to make myself available to anybody for horn/brass hits, funk guitar and/or vocal one shots, and anything else in the field of funk "garnish" or "sprinkles" to add to your arrangements, if needed at all. (I don't just do funk, of course. Just saying that I can help with in-your-face horn parts in general)

looks like you've got a solid team so far, so good luck to everybody. BE AGGRES---er. INDUCE RAGE!

  9. Darke, I just sent you a slightly verbose, yet immensely important pm. Please let me know if it's 'a green, yellow, or red light,' as well as how you feel about the second, bigger question.

As with Straight to the Top, I'd like high energy, groove-oriented tracks.

aaaand, since the genre of what I sent you usually rubs some people in the wrong way, I'm hoping that it at least passes this requirement. XP

  10. HA ha ha haaaaa! "Don't smile when you record." You'd hate to be near me when I'm recording then.

Ah, could've sworn I heard guitars, but I guess it was just the bass stacked with the strings or something. No, no, don't worry about buying an MPK or anything like that. For that Runescape track I specifically just used a cheesy 808 (or 909, whatever) lame sound from one of Sonar's bundled plugins (The Roland GrooveSynth, with some HEAVY assss processing on the 808 tom patch). What I meant was you could keep the rhythm patterns if you want, but change the actual sounds of the percussion to a sound that is much more of a staple of hip hop (like the 808 synthy kind of drums, or the super phat compressed tubberware sounding boom bap drums).

And if all else fails you could just splice up some old school drum breaks and build your beat off of that (ex., do I even need to bring up how many different songs have sampled "The Amen Break?"). The drum sounds in that JMT that OneUp suggested are reaaaaally great (especially contrasted against the string stuff you got going on as well).

*pfffft, never though I'd see a JMT track posted in a thread like this. that's awesome.

however, I gotta disagree with OneUp's opinion about being goofy. I like your vocal performance since going by the lyrics it is a bit of a goofy song and I think it works well regardless of the beat, but yeah, there'd be no harm with re-recording them with a grittier HRRRNNNNNGGGG kind of performance.

Still digging the 'da da da' part. =)

ha ha ha haaa, 'don't smile when you record'... now every single damn time I step in front of a mic, you know I'll start busting out laughing, right?

  11. I'm the kind of person that usually applauds working with what you have, but have you considered moving to something like Reaper, or even a trial version of FL Studio, Cubase, Sonar, etc. ?

That's really amazing that you'd make something quite large like that with Audacity (I could only do extremely basic and cheesy hip hop beats when I first messed with it a long while ago), but I think you could really benefit your workflow by trying a slightly heavier DAW.

yeah the Fish Fillet stuff are plugins, and I'm not sure they're standalone. But on the subject of Guitar Rig, and Native Instruments in general, most if not all of their stuff are standalone. I wouldn't really recommend Guitar Rig for orchestral/symphonic stuff since I feel like it works best with more brash instruments like horns, rock vocals, guitars (duhhh); but GRig has good stuff for volume as well. Since I don't have a lot of pre-amp post-recording hardware I have to really on Guitar Rig to boost and bring the best sound out of my guitar playing, and it does a fine job with giving me the volume I desire without clicking and popping. The dynamics tools in GR5 are usually what I use for most of my guitar and horns stuff.

(and of course, the same applies to other Amp simulator suite stuff like Th2 overloud, LePou, etc. )

yeeeah, I'm not very familiar with Audacity so I can't give you too much advice outside of general umbrella stuff, but seriously think about at least playing around with a DAW like Reaper.

And I assume with the soundfonts you're running through something like sfz+ or sfzorzando, etc. ?

  12. Yeah, meta's opting not to talk about it a lot right now because he's waiting for a certain remix submission to drop first before he highlights his music, so I can dig and respect that (I'm doing the same thing with my original music as well, so I see where he's coming from). Til then, there's that Angrysons link Zoltan posted, and his sig goes to it as well.

But, trying to contain myself from fanwanking too hard, you ladies and gents seriously need to check that AngrySons album out (it's a duo consisting of Meta and his friend Psychosis Abstrakt). I appreciate and can usually dig all forms of music, but with hip hop especially I am very particular about what I truthfully respect. Besides Kid Cudi's "Indicud," this year was incrrrredibly boring for me as a hip hop fan because nothing really raised my eyebrows or had me banging my head outside of some of my favorite internet beatsmiths (Ruku, Raisi, P.sus ,etc.), but this album came out of nowhere and reeeally surprised me from the first few seconds in.

If you like aggressively witty, gloves-off hip hop that features tons of slick nerdcore allusions, then I strongly recommend giving the AngrySons debut a quick listen. I told meta that I've had Chrome Skeleton on repeat since my first listen of the album, and I'm actually having a hard time deciding what price to name because this shizzz is ridiculous.

but again, that's just my opinion, and I know it probably won't be everybody's cup of tea.

lucio's super dope too. I think Megaran goes without saying.

you mention vg hip hop and Megaran had better already be on everybody's mind. :<

richie branson is emetophobia ill !

Oh man, talk about old school nostalgia, Zyko! That certain Asterix remix is still one of my top ten favorite OCR remixes of all time. ALL TIME, son!

  13. Since I've never gotten the hang of limiting yet I usually try to boost as much as possible and then EQ afterwards to bring sounds back down to acceptable levels, regardless of genre (soft intimate orchestral stuff, or hard hitting complextro things).

So take this with a grain of salt (and I'm sure the pros who know this kind of stuff inside and out will give you better answers really soon), but I've found the combination of BLOCKFISH and case-by-case eq adjustments (pulling back a good chunk of the mids and lows) to get me through just about everything concerning volume, while still preserving musicality:

    http://www.digitalfishphones.com/main.php?item=2&subItem=5

EDIT: and honestly, the volume of that demo sounds great and acceptable to me. So unless you're one of those folks who prefer to have really loud mixes, I think whatever you're already doing is fine.

  14. looked at the lyrics first and was a bit skeptical that this would be really cheesy (no offense, and my bad for jumping to conclusions before even giving you a chance).... but then I listened to it, and Zoltan this is sooooo silly yet really good :). If this is your first rap ever, then congratulations because you've got yourself a fan already and I'd really like to hear more.

Now, concerning the negatives, the 'beat' reeeeaaally takes away from how classy and hammy the vocals are. If you want to keep the symphonic metal/hip hop hybrid thing, I strongly suggest changing the percussion to a dirty south trap/hype kind of beat, because I'm totally getting that vibe with your vocal delivery.

If not dirty south/trap, you could have a NY/Philly boom bap kind of feel or something, but the point I'm getting at is that you could keep all the orchestral elements and guitars, but that beat is incredibly boring compared to how enthusiastic and lively the vocals are (but the "da da da" part had me grinnin pretty good).

Not to hijack your thread or rep my own self, but here's an example of what you could go for with the trap feel:

I'm kind of doing the opposite of you, trying to shift from hip hop to better myself in metal/rock.

Keep the orchestral/symphonic/metal elements present, but just phatten that beat waaaaay more with some hard hitting 808 rapid fire drums. You feel me?

good shiz, though. looking forward to more!

  15. yeeeah, Charles kind of dropped the ball for a few years due to falling out with his label mates or something (I never looked into the details because he's not one of top favorites to follow), but he used to OBSESSIVELY allude to Sonic in his earlier raps. November 10th is just one of the most [in]famous ones, but I liked him overall in his heyday.

And I'm talking to Meta a bit through emails right now about a bunch of things and to see if he's cool with it, but what I meant is that he recently came out with a siiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiick vgm rap album, and I keep hounding him that if he doesn't do so then I'll gladly make a thread for him here in the community to promote it because it is intense. I mean like, not a few songs in it starts getting good; no, from the first track you can tell this guy's about to throw it down.

    [/fanwank]

  16. Charlessss Hamiltoooooon! November 10th, son!

also... not trying to embarrass this guy, but OCR's own Metaphist is a monster. I'm serious, this guy is unbelievably sick (I told you man, I'm going to rep the heck out of you if you don't hop to it :nicework: ).

looking forward to the raps, Zoltan!

  17. @sci: ayyy, man. I do like some bmore stuff, and similar to the techniques with vaporware, I thoroughly enjoy screwed and chopped remixes even though I know that it literally is just a massively slowed down version of a song with a few stutters here and there.

That Spongebob example actually is quite the ear worm and I like it just a little bit, I just meant that sampling in that manner (ie., taking an Oxy Clean commercial and going "Oxy Clean will make your laundry fresh, fresh, fresh , fr-fr-fr-fr-fresh," for the entire song) tends to be really lazy and cheesy imo; but obviously, since I like screwed and Chopped stuff (which is, admittedly, extremely lazy) I won't lie that it's mostly a matter of preference.

and you pretty much hit it right on the money what I was trying to say. I enjoy sampling (And listening to sample-heavy tracks) mostly for the sake of nostalgia as well as inspiration to go research what the arrangers sampled; my appreciation for different artists I never would've heard before expanded practically by 100% after discovering producers like Nujabes or Fantastic Plastic Machine, and similar to how listening to a Buckethead solo might lead newcomers to Paul Gilbert or a Dave Brubeck piece might persuade others to check out composers like Bela Bartok or Gershwin, I think there's nothing wrong with sampling that encourages music appreciation (or sampling that just sounds damn good and makes the listener feel better or pumped, etc. in general).

so yeah, main thing I'm saying is that 'sampling' in general isn't bad just like wobble bass or metal growls aren't 'bad' in general either; it's all how it's executed.

  18. MangaMan, OrangeDragan, and I have been working diligently this past year to revamp the focus and goals of this project. I liked MangaMan's initial ideas very much and I believe this will be a very interesting project to collaborate on, but we just really needed to hone in on the specifics of the vision instead of tackling what would inevitably be a mammoth album.

So if any of you who originally showed interest in this are still up for this, or if you never stumbled upon this thread before, you can be expecting an overhaul change to the OP(s) in a few days or so, and then we'll be getting back to recruiting for the revamped Tears of The Moon project idea! :-D
