  1. The beat issue, I'm not quite sure I can fix right yet, as I'm not sure what specifically your talking about, in regards to the beat. Am I throwing in too many complicated, syncopated stuff that could be simplified into something more appealing? Or is it not syncopated enough?

No, no. It's the beat sound itself. It just doesn't feel big enough.

Though, with the direction this remix is going right now, I don't think that a bigger beat would work very well.

  2. Overall, this does not sound bad, but there are some problems.

First off, I really am not feeling the beat. This may be because I'm one for big beats and cool grooves, but I'm not feelin' it.

Also, that bass (the low frequency in the EQ, mainly) has got to come up. I'm also one who loves dat bass.

From 0:06 to 0:14, the vibraphone or whatever that is doesn't work. Its chord changes are coming in before the other chord changes coming from the other instruments, and it just sounds a little weird.

Keep it up, though. This sounds interesting. :)

  3. Damn, this is pretty dope! I can definitely dig it. Some have suggested it already, but adding another section could break the repetitiveness a little bit, unless you were goin for that. Either way I like it =D. That synth towards the end with all that vibrato was cool.

Yeah, that synth was actually a reference to the Zelda theme, if you didn't notice. It's not very obvious.

You can try this (free) VST for now: http://www.myvst.com/vst-instruments...phone-freeware .

I haven't tried it, but the video is shows a good sound imo.

Thanks, will check it out. :) EDIT: Not sure... sounds quite a bit fake to me...

  4. I didn't know they make USB ports on guitars now.

They do. I use a cheap one (though it does work and is rather nice) called JamLab. I have my friend come over and we just connect the cable from the guitar to the computer and start recording stuff (I don't play guitar myself).

  5. Thanks! But the guitar riff is not recorded live. It happens to be the awesome Shreddage VST in conjunction with Guitar Rig 5. Completely virtual. But I will take that suggestion and make it double tracked like you say. ^^ Hope the volume doesn't get too loud though!

Now, hold on. It isn't as simple as just duplicating a track and putting it in the other ear, if that's what you're saying. The tracks have to have slight differences to them to give a stereo feel. If they both sounded exactly the same, it would just sound like the track was in the center.

A really cheap way to do it is just to move one of the tracks (let's just use the right ear, for example) just a few ticks either to the right or left. This will give it a stereo sound, but most certainly more of a fake stereo sound.

Do you actually play guitar at all?

  6. Ok, the mixed one actually didn't sound bad. I'm thinking maybe you should create a more stereo sound for the guitar. I don't know how much you know about doing that, so I'll go ahead and explain what I'm talking about.

With that guitar riff, I definitely would've done some stereo recording. I would've recorded the guitar for the left ear, and then I would've doubled it and recorded it again for the other ear. It gives this really cool stereo sound.

But hey, the bass is actually not bad! I'm actually hearing it. How much compression are you using on the drums/master track. I'm most certainly hearing some compression (or the Limiter). Sounds slightly too high and I think it may be taking over some sounds.

And I'd say a little more kick. A little more compression and EQ to that kick and it should actually sound pretty good.

Maybe add in some other guitar riffs in the song so it isn't so bare?

Again, I'm not one that does a lot of rock-related music, but I have recorded guitar many times before.

  7. This is like "Toto remixes the Zelda Overworld Theme for a Mario Kart game"

I love the intro, it's so groovy. I'd make another instrument play the lead, since it gets a bit drowned if played by the piano. Try with a sax or something like that, it'd sound cool.

However, the source doesn't convince me in some sections...

    - 0:37: For some reason, the source feels weird here. It MAY be the G# (if I'm hearing it right) played by the piano. It also may be that I'm used to hear the backing chords decreasing from the original song, so I'm not sure.

    - 0:55: The chord progression doesn't fit that well with the melody.

Other than those two small nitpicks, I love where this is going. Just keep in mind that when drastically changing the backing chords, the melody has to suffer some changes (I noticed some nicely picked changes in some notes by the way).

At 0:55, yeah, I sort of changed the melody a bit to make the chords work. At 0:37, it seems fine to me... hmmm...
