  1. Without getting too detailed, I feel that through watching anime for nearly 15 years, I'm fairly used to unresolved--and often unexplained--details, so they tend to not bother me and--if anything--elicit respect to the creators for allowing me to draw my own conclusions, regardless of their intentions. A great example of this is the Gainax film The Wings of Honneamise. It's basically set in an "alternate" World that resembles Earth, but has a great deal of odd differences, none of which are explained to the viewer. They simply carry on with the story, ignoring any questions I might have about--for example--why the telephones look so strange. I'm also used to anime films and series ending in such a way that they clearly defy anything remotely resembling a traditional "happy" or neatly-packaged ending. I guess I just tend to enjoy that. Viewed this way, I felt Lost brought to us the most "anime"-like ending I could ever have imagined, due to its lack of being straight-forward or "happy" in any traditional sense. That said, I feel as though I was one of the only people I know who was truly saddened and depressed by the ending. I adore the show in its entirety, and have zero complaints, but it was difficult for me to view the final moments in the optimistic, positive way many of my friends did. Much like the Sopranos, however, I wouldn't wish a second of it changed. I need to add here that the asinine questions wasted on the Lost cast during the Jimmy Kimmel Q&A basically hurt my soul.
  2. Please update my listing of "Complete collection of VSL/Vienna Instruments orchestral samples"...change price to $1895 negotiable, and change "info" website to: http://web.comporium.net/~vhd/VSL_Sale.htm Thanks so much.
  3. I was literally just musing a few days ago on the fact that no one had pointed that out for 3.5 straight years.
  4. Oh, I've listened. I thought it had been dropped after it was done in, I believe, 2007, so I'm glad that you're sticking with it. I feel like your strings (especially the cellos/basses) in particular sound far better now.
  5. zomg you guys are still playing "Cid ~ Wings of Song?" I'm altogether surprised and psyched.
  6. Please update my "Complete collection of VSL/Vienna Instruments orchestral samples" post's price to $2050, lower than I'm offering it anywhere else. =D
  7. Please remove my Sale entry for "20 Classical music CDs (all Donizetti, mostly imports/boxes/sets): $115 negotiable for all with free shipping, or $4-15 each (will vary by disc/box) info here [vampire hunter dan]" when you have the chance. Thanks.
  8. If you have a chance, please remove my Gibson Mandolin listing (not the other stuff), as it's sold =D
  9. I'll be hard at work from 3 days ago up until my oral surgery date =D
  10. Good to know..I certainly will. As I said, though, almost every CD I randomly checked out was amazing, so worth it to anyone who is into modern film scores to check them out.
  11. Just an update here on my post. I'm adding my entire collection of VSL instruments (all for legitimate sale/license transfer): FOR SALE: 20 Classical music CDs (all Donizetti, mostly imports/boxes/sets): $115 negotiable for all with free shipping, or $4-15 each (will vary by disc/box) Gibson 1918 A-2 Mandolin in used, worn, but playable shape: $275 negotiable with free shipping Complete collection of VSL/Vienna Instruments orchestral samples (some boxed, some downloadable, and one Vienna Key): US$2789 total value, price $2250 negotiable (includes free, insured shipping and license transfer fee) Details/pictures for all items: http://sites.google.com/site/vampirehunterdan/counter-htm I hope this format works. Honestly, I can't be any less specific on any of these things, because there are just too many variables. Anyway, thanks. -Dan
  12. Makes sense, for certain. I just finished typing all the info on each disc out. I'll say at least 40% of them are in near-"collector" condition, with maybe 30% more in good to excellent shape. I'm mostly typing this to say that I just spent an hour and a half spot-checking them, and this is really some excellent stuff (keeping in mind that I normally can't stand opera). Interestingly, one of Donizetti's pieces was used prominently (and extremely well) in the anime series Giant Robo by Masamichi Amano; I can completely see why Amano paid homage to this guy.
  13. I'll keep that for my template when I come up with final prices for a later post, then. Thank you, sir.
  14. I'd read the original post, and some of the follow-up/sale ones, but I'm still not sure what you mean XD
  15. FOR SALE: 20 Donizetti classical/opera CDs and/or boxes (some are single CDs, but most are luxurious boxes with huge booklets included, and most seem to be Italian imports). These are from my grandfather's classical collection (much of it opera), which we're slowly going through and selling off. I haven't priced anything yet, because I'm still sorting through titles, editing pictures, and looking at eBay options. Most are in stellar shape, but some cases (inside) less so. I could easily sell individual discs, but at this point, I wouldn't sell the entire collection for less than $100 without shipping. I'm in the process of typing up a disc listing as I listen, and some of this stuff is pretty amazing. 1 Gibson Mandolin, Style A-2 Reintroduction, Number 50367, most likely from 1919, also from my grandfather's collection. Unfortunately, the raised pick guard is broken, but pieces are still included with the case and Mandolin book inside. I'm still doing research on this, too, but for reference, one of them (in far better shape) was up on eBay about a month ago for over $900. So..can't put definite prices on anything yet, but would love to hear from anyone who's interested. I'd certainly give OCR priority, as it's a great community, and eBay/Paypal treats sellers worse each day.
  16. *makes a clear and present point of staying the bleeding heck out of this one*
  17. Oh, yah..as I mentioned, I've long believed I'm just about the only person who feels as I do about FF8. I absolutely adore the gameplay, story, music (as I said, mostly in-context, but many of the pieces on their own too), ending (which I feel has an emotional punch that no other game ending I've seen has) and..just everything. I wouldn't necessarily put it "above" or "below" any other FF, as that's tough to do, but it's easily in my top 4 of the series. Anyway, I'm not at all surprised you feel that way, because that seems to be the majority, and I'm quite used to it xD Also: Wild Arms, Wild Arms, Wild Arms. Wild Arms.
  18. For lack of anything else to do, I have to briefly jump to FF8's defense, as I seem to be just about the only person in the World who loves it. When I heard the OST, I hadn't yet played the game, and aside from a few tracks blowing me away (Liberi Fatali, of course), it was the first FF OST I'd heard that didn't do much for me. I then played the game, and discovered it was important to reserve *all* judgement until one has finished Disc One...at least for me, that's where the atmosphere really started to come together, and I became hooked on the gameplay as well. The BGM, to me, fits *remarkably* well in the *context* of the game, and ever since, I've been a huge fan of the game and its soundtrack. Also: it's the only video game ending that literally *never* fails to make me shed multiple tears.

  20. Hey there. I wasn't sure how to send you a PM through OCR, although that was my original intention. If you're around at all tonight, please send me an IM so I may..let you know what I need to let you know about =D

  21. Hey there. Most of my scores are a mess because they're geared for MIDI/sample playback, so they're covered in all sorts of crazy dynamic markings, tempo changes, etc. I've looked into it, and it seems like I could get the score and parts into .pdf, but I haven't yet played around with it much. It'll take a bit of time to clean everything up to where it's more musical and less technical, and I'd be happy to put in that time, but first I'd need you to get back to me and let me know that:

    a) Your group fully intends to go through with the piece

    B) You'll at some point send me an mp3 (recording quality doesn't matter, as long as the mp3's a decent bitrate) or--better yet--mp3 and video of it when you finally play it

    c) Credit arr. by Dan Barnaba (or whatever) in any written programs you happen to give out that list composers =D

If you could do that for me, I'll take a whack at it for you. Cheers.

    -Dan
