Oh, the Kronos is like 2 times the price of the M50 where I live, which is why I discarded it. Thanks for the advice by the way!
Some internet comments mentioned some glitches in the M50, like the screen freezing or some notes getting frozen. Do you know if that's common/true?
-
It sounds beautiful. I had no idea that instrument could sound like that.
Like Skrypnyk said, there are a few too slow parts at the beggining, but it is amazing anyway.
-
I'd love to buy a Kronos but it is WAY to expensive, especially where I live.
I used to own a Korg X5D and played live a few times and never had any issues, so I don't think I'll be disappointed with the M50 in that way. I've not tried it yet though, but I hope to do so soon.
-
Hey, I want to buy a new keyboard soon and I got interested in the Korg M50.
Does anybody here have any experiences with it? Is it recommended?
My budget allows me to buy something more expensive than the M50 but I don't really want to spend much more than the M50's price.

The cymbals sound a bit too loud, you should work on that.
I'm a bit surprised that your arrangement manages to sound happier than the original source
Even though you use the same chord progression for the whole song, it doesn't feel repetitive (maybe thanks to the drums). However, the song could maybe reach higher levels if you experimented a bit more, like changing tone or something. Maybe, making more than minor variations. After all, the source is like 10 seconds long.

This is quite cool. It isn't very different to the original arrangement-wise but the sounds used are nice.
Using the xylophone at the beggining was a good choice and the strings sound nice.
The drums are a bit weird in my opinion, they sound a bit off-beat, but I don't know if that's just me.
Anyway, I enjoyed it.

Football Manager has its frustrating moments, like losing a league when you had a 7 point advantage or managing big clubs and losing against small ones...
Yoshi's Story was indeed ver unsatisfying, especially when compared with the amazaing Yoshi Island.
I remember being very frustrated with some minigames in Banjo Kazooie/Tooie and Donkey Kong 64 when I was a kid.

Some songs from the demo are impressive. With better sound quality this will be badass.
-
I loved it. The source is really short and you managed to make the remix a decent length.
I especially liked the piano (not sure how the sound is called, chorus/rhodes piano?).
You have some nice remixes uploaded btw.
EDIT: One very small complaint is that the drums are a bit loud at some sections and the melodies are a bit hard to appreciate.
-
The bass is a bit loud, I had to lower the bass in my speakers to actually hear the rest of the instruments.
Anyway, I like the idea behind the mix. The drums are fine in my opinion, though you could try using the ride cymbal, maybe it matches the mood of the song more. For the piano you could use some chords to back the melody. Also, you could try experimenting a bit more with the melody (making the melody play some higher notes in the ending for example).
I hope you also add the rest of the melodies from the original source. I think you will though, since this WIP is very short.

Pain of Salvation - Handful of Nothing
I miss the early days of this band...

I'm a big fan of CC's OST so this interested me.
The arrangement is nice but there are a lot of issues with some sounds and instruments.
The acoustic guitar at the beggining could use some sustain, I think it would sound much better (maybe even use a piano soundfont instead of the acoustic guitar). Distortion guitar could play an octave higher in that section too.
In the next section, the flute/whistle thing sounds a bit out of tune sometimes. Also, the bass drum and the guitar get kind of lost in the mix. Is there a bass playing by the way? It's either non existant or very low volume, and you can't make Metal without a bass.
Also, the drums could use some work. The use of the hi-hat could be more constant.
I really like the introduction of the second theme. Only issues I can point out are with the volumes in a few parts, but I like the sound of this section.
3rd theme is nice, and the return to the second theme is also good.
Overall, a very nice remix with some volume and sound issues (especially the acoustic guitar).

I like them when all the instruments play together, but at the beggining of the song they don't convince me much. They're like too "quick" so it feels a bit empty.
Or maybe it's just the fact that the notes aren't identical to the original song, so they grab me a bit by surprise
-
I liked this remix. It is quite true to the original song, but that is nice. I loved the sounds used (except maybe the first sound).
-
I like the intro, took me a while to recognize the source (actually had to look it up), but I like how you mixed it. The windy noise created a nice mood. The transition to the second theme sounds good IMO.
At 2:22 the flute plays a completely off note.
When "Prisioners of Fate" begins, I feel the drums don't add anything to the piece. Also, I think the section at 4:00 would sound great with only strings, and with a more "natural" sound.
Overall, the arrangement is pretty nice. The piano bits are good. Only drawbacks are the off notes in the flute and that some sounds are too unnatural (strings and bass drum mainly).

Thanks Stevo for the answer. I am starting to experiment with Reaper and I hope to post a WIP in the Workshop sometime "soon"!
-
I like the remix, it is very heavy.
However, the equalization of the drums doesn't convince me. I'm not sure if I can blame my headphones, but I think the bass drum doesn't sound too good. Snare has the issue pointed out above.
Also, even though you wanted to stick to barebones, I think a synth pad on the background would really help this song. It feels a bit empty sometimes.
Nice guitar playing btw.

I have an idea for a possible remix of the Legend of Hyrule theme. However, I'm pretty new here and my experience at producing is none.
I'm learning right now so I think I could attempt the song anyway. Otherwise, I am able to provide a MIDI and have someone collaborate. I'm not sure if you're interested...
-
@Stevo: When you started coming here did you know anything about music?
I'm new here too but I have some experience composing so I expect a time shorter than 5 years to get posted...
Also, what would you people recommend to being producing? I have a lot of MIDI files (arranged by me) that I'd like to give good production, but I'm not sure how to do it. I've been looking at the Reason guides posted in the Workshop, but I haven't found much about importing MIDI files.
-
Amazing job. I didn't remember the song when I clicked on the link but as soon as you started playing I remembered it all!
What is that instrument?
-
I could use some help too.
I am fine in the musical department. I know how to compose, know some musical theory and I have played the keyboards for a decent amount of time.
However, I am very lacking in the production department. I can write MIDI files but I have no idea what software/equipment I need to do a good arrangement. I have a KORG X5D and a notebook, what do I need to make arrangements?
To the original poster, I recommend reading the basics of music theory and then trying to learn some songs (preferably by ear). It really helps to see what other people do when composing.
-
I like this project, since the Banjo series has amazing music.
Sadly, I don't think I'll be able to do an arrangement since I'd need to learn how to mix/program. I know how to make MIDI arrangements, but I have no clue how to make them sound good...
Anyway, good luck!

This looks very good. Badass volume 1 is quite... badass.
Even though I'm very new, I have some arrangement ideas I could try for the future (don't have the time to attempt anything for this volume), like Master Hand's theme from Super Smash Bros. 64.
Anyway, showing my support here!

Hey!
I've know of OCRemix for a while but I had never checked the forums until a couple of days ago...
I am a keyboardist though I don't have a really great keyboard, so my recording possibilities are quite bad sadly. I've been composing for quite a few years and even though I don't know much theory, I think I'm at least a decent composer.
Regarding music, I listen mainly to progressive rock/metal, but I'm open to other styles. And in games, I like almost everything. My faves are Zelda, Final Fantasy, Smash Bros, Banjo Kazooie and more.
Anyway, I hope I can contribute with some arrangements if I figure out how to use some of the softwares recommended here. I noticed there are no Earthbound/Mother 3 remixing projects, which is quite sad...

Wow this is very interesting. I may participate if I manage to learn how to produce decent sounding stuff by the deadline. Probably not going to win anything, but participating is always fun!
