  1. Yoshi's Island Sambatronic 2025-08-05 1420.mp3 This is weird.
  2. Mario Kart 64 Winner 2025-08-01 1814.mp3 Did some mixing... sounds much better. Now I just want to add more variation to synth chords, bass, drums, and probably change the piano improv in the middle.
  3. Lon Lon Ranch 2025-07-24 2141.mp3 Throwing myself outside of my comfort zone with this style. Not sure what to call it, but I think it's post punk. Feel free to disagree, I don't listen to this kind of music.
  4. Zora's Domain 2025-07-31 1734.mp3 Dusted this old thang off to do some mixing and shtuff. Ready to submit...? In the chamber. Added some compression, fixed reverb on all tracks, added some reverb automation on the synth chords because why not, changed bass tone, added some samba instruments at the end, I guess I'll call this city pop.
  5. Sonic Advance 3 Staff Roll 2025-08-01 0913.mp3 I do believe she's ready to submit. Also like Master Mi's noir monologue, and reference to I think (tbh never played it) Oddworld...
  6. Katamari Stars 2025-07-15 2045.mp3 Did a bit more mixing and editing... Another problem I see is that I don't know how to master, I've only used (and have been using) basic compression on the master. It's all my skill level can muster up without sounding terrible. Anyways, I think I'm happy with this to submit unless anybody has any glaring problems with it. I switched out the organ lead in that one section because it sounded tacky. Went for lower octave vibraphone without piano backing to add some space and breathing room before the "vocal" section. The only other main problem I see is the upright bass sample isn't super high quality. I like it though, but others may not and it may not fit the quality of OCR's submission guidelines. But hey it's all about learning. EDIT: I took out some reverb but didn't update the audio file. This is submitted with less reverb. Too much.

  8. Yoshi's Island Sambatronic 2025-07-05 2213.mp3 Lol. I don't even know. My only complaint is I don't have a chorus of people singing "la" like in Sergio Mendes' version of "Tristeza." 9. Katamari Stars 2025-07-05 1201.mp3 - Added vibraphone and organ leads to make this more dynamic (and get rid of that filthy piano lead). This will set the stage for better arranging. - Added vocal pad in C section with record scratch. Reminds me of Katamari. - Fixed some drum timings. Still more to be done. - Added reverb bus for all instruments and adjusted as necessary. I like how it feels more like a live arrangement with the added reverb bus. Further adjustments may be needed. - Added keytracking to EQ for better definition of individual instruments. Overall adjusted EQ, especially of higher frequencies. - Overall finished arrangement? It is very dynamic, and I tried to keep the idea of "change it every 8 bars" at the forefront.
  10. Katamari Stars 2025-06-26 2233.mp3 EDIT: So I'm seeing my main problem with arranging/mixing is I don't have access to a whole lot of versatile, high quality sounds. I'm not super pleased with the piano sound - I think it sounds fine as the chords, but the melody just sounds thin and robotic. I need a better sound or two for the melody(ies)... it will help keep it interesting and contrast with the piano better. Especially since, if you evaluate ā€œmainstreamā€ arrangements from the 50s for example, the instruments that are melodizing and harmonizing change about every 8 bars, keeping the piece interesting. Same goes for big band jazz. Count Basie makes it especially easy to see this. He’ll have the brass ā€œcallā€ the melody in the A section, with woodwinds ā€œrespondingā€, then for the B section swap them (woodwinds call and brass respond), then when refraining the A section will swap back. In bebop and hard bop, you may or may not see this less in the arrangement, but you have solos, and even trading solos, between instruments to keep things interesting. This is even common in some hip hop groups. A Tribe Called Quest has each member taking turns with their verses, synonymous with the bebop solos of a previous era. There are even spoken references in the lyrics to bebop throughout many different hip hop artists from that time, the 90s. But I digress… point is I need more interesting, quality sounds.
  11. Thanks. I'll have to work that out. I decided I like the original chord progression (with the Bb minor chord instead of dominant/altered) better so I updated. Easier to keep the melody intact which I think is necessary since the style is so whacky. It's more moody with the minor as well. I'll work on arranging/humanizing.
  12. EDIT: Forgot the most important part... record scratch. Updated wip below. Katamari Stars 2025-06-24 2253.mp3 Source:
  13. Update wip w/ new ending. All that's is drum variation/better fills? Zora's Domain 2025-06-24 1520.mp3
  14. The idea for this is to have an orchestrated intro, then going straight into EDM (I haven't really decided what genre?) section. Very rough, but the intro is more or less done. I just need better sound design for the actual synth bass and chords and then I should be good to flesh out the arrangement. Thinking about doing hybrid synth w/ staccato strings. TP Orchestral Piece 1 2025-06-22 2229.mp3
  15. Mario Kart 64 Winner 2025-06-17 2248.mp3 You guys motivated me to update... Not very polished but here's a rough arrangement. Fleshed it out adding the "secret ending" bit for the second chorus, and an all new straight ahead groove that I want to flesh out the solos to more. A little reminiscent of Luigi's Raceway...
  16. Thanks for the input to both. I am actually making this in 11/4. Use the ride cymbal in introduction (right ear) as a metronome marker. You might notice when you do this, it sounds like the off beat once we reach beat 6. This is because on beat 6, the kick drum (and bass following it) becomes the off beat, syncopating the side chain effect until the top of the next measure. This occurs on every measure. So the original rhythm is (mostly) intact, but when you count it this way, you get interesting syncopation, or off beats... it's all an illusion! But anyways, I will take the sound design and eight note rhythms into consideration. I do believe the kick and bass pattern (and obviously the time signature) is the main culprit for it straying from the traditional synthwave feel. Let me play with it, and most importantly complete the arrangement, and we will see how it sounds then. I appreciate the input.😁 EDIT: and the chords during the melody section follow the syncopation, because I have them bouncing onto the beats that the kick and bass are playing. Maybe I should try placing them on the on beats and see how it sounds... as it stands though it's an even 11 chords through beat 5, and another 11 through beat 11, so it is currently even in the measure, just syncopated because it's an odd measure... interesting dilemma, especially to Steele's point because synthwave isn't typically syncopated like this.
  17. I believe this is completed. My only complaint might be that bass is too loud. Does anyone agree or have any suggestions for mixing, arrangement, or otherwise? Animal Crossing Wild World 2025-04-13 2026.mp3

  19. Some mixing edits. Changed melody instrument. Edited the melody. Added piano solo instead of repeating melody for a little more flavor and variation. Need to: - Add some fills to drums and bass - Add ending - Touch ups of some velocities on piano chords Zora's Domain 2025-04-10 0941.wav
  20. Updated full arrangement. Plan to make more variation/fills to drums and bass. Animal Crossing Wild World 2025-04-08 2012.wav
  21. WIP: My personal favorite song from MK64, colored a little differently. The sweet memories of getting lucky with a lightning bolt and using it on my older brother as he went over the jump in Wario Stadium, plummeting towards sudden demise. Mario Kart 64 Winner 2025-04-05 2131.wav
  22. As titled, with influence from bossa nova and samba (fitting with the theme of the Zora's), as evident with the clave and bass rhythms and the low tom on beats 1 and 3 during the "chorus" section. Edited version below.
  23. Hey all, I used to come on OCRemix a lot quite a few years ago when I was in high school. I haven’t been on in a while but have recently gotten back into making music. Here’s some WIP Animal Crossing. I took the original MIDI for the guitar and made it piano, arranging around that. I haven’t updated much of the content of that track in terms of dynamics, not sure that I need to do too much. Animal Crossing Wild World 2025-03-13 2317.wav
  24. It's a minimalistic soundscape, but I think that ends up lending itself to the style. I found it seemed to fill out in parts. Also, this is particularly interesting to me because of the call and response between all the synths around 1:56, good use of finding interesting ways to play with melody while sticking with the same instrumentation - it keeps from getting boring that way. I like it personally, I find myself bobbing my head to it.
