  1. OCR University makes no sense

Like Darkesword said, there are literally hundreds of fake university shirts, and frankly I think OU makes a lot more sense than most. From the about page:

Founded in 1999, OverClocked ReMix is an organization dedicated to the appreciation and promotion of video game music as an art form. Its primary focus is www.ocremix.org, a website featuring thousands of free fan arrangements, information on game music and composers, resources for aspiring artists, and a thriving community of video game music fans.

Part of this site's purpose is education about video game music, its past and musical appreciation of it. There are a number of university courses on music appreciation. Granted, the site is primarily about rearranging vg music, but I think it's a stretch to imply that no one has ever learned anything here.

relates to no joke that I'm aware of

Exactly. That YOU'RE not aware of. Most people are though.

isn't funny to those who do

I think you're projecting your own opinion just a bit there.

  2. The first one makes no sense to me at all. If I don't get the joke then anyone who doesn't know OCR will just get confused about what OCR is. Srsly if that was a mix I'd no override it, fo reel.

    Second one is cool though.

I'm not sure that the second shirt conveys OCR's purpose either. Don't know about you, but I don't generally see a bunch of instruments on a person's shirt and immediately think, "Oh, remixing video game music, and by remixing it actually means rearranging."

I like the first shirt because it's a bit more aesthetically pleasing, and "Overclocked University" sounds awesome. If I saw someone wearing a shirt like that, (and didn't know what OCR was) I'd probably ask them about it.

I think both shirt designs are decent, but OU is my clear preference.

  3. I said this in staff chat, but I'll throw this out there publicly as well:

The university design isn't my favorite, because even though it's tongue-in-cheek, most people wouldn't know that. I don't think it serves a practical purpose... Instead of spreading the word about OCR and what we do, it just winds up feeling like an in-joke. I'd rather wear something that actually promotes the community and feels 'inviting' to outsiders. Why would we want people to mistake OCR for some preppy college?

I'm inclined to disagree. The phrase "Overclocked" doesn't exactly conjure images of preppiness.

  4. Dude, I feel for you; I was partially deafened by ear congestion over a month ago, and it feels terrible to struggle to hear and criticise music properly

I hope you'll get better soon, and make sure any medication you take will heal the process.

Thanks, I'm using copious amounts of dayquil and nyquil. Without them, I probably could not have finished at all.

    Yea, ear infections suck. =(

  5. Well, I'm done with my mix. This week was not good for me, not enough time to mix and this Wily theme didn't give me good ideas. Honestly I had a hard time coming up with something that was not a complete mess.

Seems like a lot of people had a bad week. I got an ear infection and lost about half my hearing. My mind's been in a fog. I kept forgetting what genre I was doing, lol. Oh well, I did what I could.

  6. He coined the term "ReMix". Not "remix".

A "ReMix" is DJP's fancy spelling for "rearrangement". It is simply that way because OverClocked Rearrangement sounds really dumb.

Remixes have been around since before any of us were even born.

Well duh. Ocr has a different definition than the rest of the web. Why do you think I posted a quote making that very point?

Are you suggesting that this isn't a rearrangement compo at all?

  7. ... Not really catching onto this, myself. The purpose of this compo is to mix two themes together (one provided by oneself, one provided by Darkesword) in any way that you see fit. This isn't about making OCR submitable material, if that's not what you want to go for in a particular round, nor is it a necessity that it factors into one's vote. There is no 'purpose' outside of mixing the two themes together.

    Wily Castle REMIX Gauntlet

    This is a remix competition.

  8. If what he wants is something that's more coverish then it's well within his right to vote accordingly.

This is a remix competition. If everyone started voting on tracks they thought sounded most like covers, it would defeat the whole point of the compo.

Granted, he is entitled to his own opinion, just as we are entitled to remind him the purpose of this compo.

Sorry, let me clarify: I enjoy solid covers, but I wouldn't vote for one in this context.

Everything you've said up to this point gives the impression that you are interested in covers. I think the problem is you are judging the mixes based on whether you can hear the main melody or not. Some mixes won't use the main melody from the source. If you can't hear the source in a mix, I suggest you go back and listen to the source. The whole source. I think you'll be surprised just how hard many remixers try to make the source recognizable, while still blending in with the other theme.

at some point you should probably stop posting in this thread.

Whoa, hold on. I think some sort of understanding can be reached, so there's no need for that. Besides, OCR is an inclusive place. I don't think MindWanderer needs to vacate the thread just because he has a dissenting opinion, even a silly one.

  9. Prophecy's stuff sure sounds a lot different than the song I most remember him for, Chekan Winter.
Believe it or not, that's actually my most common style, just not one I think I've used much on OCR. I was planning on doing something else, something much more ambitious, but I ran into a wall and couldn't finish it. So at about 4am Saturday morning, I finally accepted that I couldn't finish my original idea and started over with a new arrangement. Because of time constraints, I decided to go with something easy and comfortable for me.

Anyways, this week I'll be trying something ambitious again but I'll have a backup plan just in case. I'll be representing The Concrete Men.

FYI guys, Mr. X's Stage is probably my #1 most favorite Mega Man song ever, so I'm really hoping you guys bring your A Game.

    Any genre preference? =)

  10. Spammed the spam...

I think we're all aware that sending large quantities of the same message to youtube may not be the best way to prove we aren't spammers. But what alternative exists? Youtube has effectively thrown away hundreds of hours of effort on the part of the ocremix team, defamed them without just cause, and disrupted their ability to function as a non-profit entity. Youtube's actions have severe consequences. To add insult to injury, they've provided no direct means of rectifying their error. Therefore, I believe we are justified in pursuing any reasonable action to correct this grievous mistake.

  11. It's most likely a hack because the channel has this message:

"This account has been suspended due to multiple or severe violations of YouTube's policy against spam, scams and commercially deceptivecontent."

That's not copyright. If it WERE copyright issue half of YouTube wouldn't exist. Regardless, there's a form for that:

    http://www.google.com/support/youtube/bin/request.py?contact_type=accountdisabled

Actually, youtube channels get taken down all the time for false flagging. And false flagging because many don't understand Fair Use is common. But you're right, a hack is a very likely possibility.

  12. A bribe suggests that you offered me money or some other form of favour or desirable in order to corrupt my original naming of my re-arrangement of these exquisite pieces of music. You did no such thing, you just kept asking me to do it which is another way of saying badgering, no bribing involved.

Alright, if you're gonna deny it in public, then consider your supply cut off.
