  1. I disagree with that viewpoint. While you probably would find a person's first remix to be the very definition of amateur, that doesn't necessarily mean that person's review is unqualified. If you listen to enough, and experience a wide enough variety of a kind of music, you eventually become qualified enough to review that type. Most music/movie critics aren't directors or musicians themselves, or at least are very unlikely to have ever had critical success themselves. Does that mean their viewpoint is to be discarded since they don't do it themselves? Fallacy. Personally I've only remixed things I wouldn't show anyone. Hell I'd kill to keep them from ever being heard, they're THAT BAD. But I've got pretty much every song from this site (um, I swear to God I intend to donate reallllll soon DJP!) and a shit-ton of wips, and remixes from other sites, etc, and I consider my own opinion at the very least informed, if not refined to the level of the talented remixing reviewers. Just my two cents on why his opinion may be different from your's it shouldn't be discarded simply because he doesn't have anything on the site. That sort of argument is begging for comeuppance should someone you throw it at actually have credentials you aren't aware of. Instead, simply say "I disagree with what you said", which translates into internet-speak to mean "I don't know how you can say something so stupid with that much man-cock in your mouth."
  2. With slightly better quality samples, there's no reason this couldn't dominate airtime on actual pop radio stations. Such a goddamn sweet song with a happy melody and far beyond decent singing. Count me floored. And the message is so damn poignant too, PRIMA needs to die a fiery death.
  3. I agree with lazermario, it does take almost a minute to really get into the swing of things, to the point where I almost like to skip to right around 1:00 exactly to get to the meat. My attention span is somewhat on the short side with music, heh, I can't handle pattern building. But beyond my own faults, it's incredibly well constructed, I can absolutely imagine playing a Sonic game with this song. Hell, I get misty-eyed imagining an Sonic game where the entire soundtrack would match the quality of this this one song, no more of the current Sonic variety tried-and-typical-but-true synth rock that feels somewhat out of place compared to the old fashioned inventive synth of sonic 2 and 3. An entire soundtrack of this, Rayza's Lava Reef Zone, McVaffe's IceCapped and Bonus Retreat, and the last half of JAXX's Lightning Star...well, you get the idea. It's this sort of high quality tune-age still retaining the spirit of Sonic that impresses me the most about this mix, and what earns it 3/4 stars.
  4. Absolutely and instantly 4 stars out of 4. This is a very fun and nostalgic mix. Not nostalgia for Marble Madness, but for another old PC puzzle game called Supaplex. This remix may be of different material, but is has the same progression as the main theme to Supaplex, which was thoroughly enjoyable in an old 8/16-bit sound kinda way.
  5. Well, I think he was aiming more for the celebratory carnival, like the kind you see in South American countries and some European countries, rather than the American Circusy kinda carnival. Works well, reminds me of McVaffe's Cutman Sonata, much faster paced than most FF6 remixes. Fits the theme perfectly, though. Nothing seems too oustanding, but everything works well, like the horns and steel drums. I love the solo around 2:30, it really works well to top off the piece. Well done. This baby's going in my 4 star folder
  6. I've gotta agree with elman a bit, it felt a bit more lifeless than the first form. Not as good, but solid enough to make it to 3 stars out of 4. Disappointment compared to the stellar first form can't diminish the fact it's still enjoyable.
