There are only a few trance songs I will ever like because most of them are extremely repetitive and are totally carried by some super-uber-professional quality drumloop/drumset. However, Discodan always, ALWAYS expands on the melody. This is much more than typical generic trance. I love the saw wave and what was done with the strings. Good trance-style songs dont come around too often, so pick this one up. No wait, pick all his songs up, duh.

Very nice, This is the stuff I like to see on OC.
I am not farmiliar with the arcade version of this game, but I played the Nes version 1000 times. The song is basically the same with minor differences. Love the use of instruments. Love the expansion on the melody. Keep it up Neo

I'll have to say that dispite the repetitiveness later on, the simplistic drums, the few offnotes, and the weak ending, that this mix is rather well done. Its kind of the point for some genres to be repetitive. Although I dont apreciate it too often, it works for this song. Furthermore, its one of the few fast guitar tracks I hear on OC, and those require some skillz.
Good Job

Matt, I think you just DID hear the original...
Sorry malcos man, but only original remixes on this site imho (as in original sequencing, not using a wave and putting drums over it, etc)

I simply... do not... understand what ... people like ... about his music.

EDIT: Old post:
If I ever went to Maridia (and Im not talkin Mel's house) and just stood around in the murky undergrowth of the planet's innards I would EXPECT someone to be playing this song for me. One of those flying doormats would probably kill me before I got the chance anyway. Not to mention there is no oxygen etc.
ANYWAY. very moody and x00l. Another Cottm crazy synthfest.

EDIT: Sorry man, I gotta be fair. Try 160vbr, it will make under 6 megs and still sound great. I really dont see why not.
-
Cons:
Too simple.
Blatant use of drumloops.
Repeats.
Strings get annoying
Bass synth gets even more annoying cause its always there.
Pros:
It was sounding good for a second there at the beginning. But whatever sudden hope I had vanished.
Nice try, but make your own beats in the future.

I usually get flamed for stating my opinions since Im almost always in the minority, but I do it anyway. Also please keep in mind this is not a bash against Russell Cox (as some people like to conclude). I much respect the guy and think hes a cool person. so anyway,
I really dont see the big deal with this song. I am a long time lover of the game and I've heard the Dragon Quest Orchistral arrangements hundreds of times - I absolutely love them.
But this one just seems to simple. I mean, it goes through the original melody with super-amazing-highquality samples. A few variations here and there. A few changes in the chord structure. Some repeating. Usual conformation to rules of orchestra (Ugh, I hate rules). There really isnt anything in this song that I find unique, admirable, or impressing except maybe the sound quality.
Some stuff I didnt like outright like the pentatonic major use of harps at 0:35 and the piano at 1:22. Stuff like that I thought didnt fit this kind of song at all.
I know I dont know much theory, but I dont think that matters. Orchestra is still my favorite Genre and I hear quite a bit.
On a side not, I hear a lot of clipping in Russell songs, you might want to check into that, russ.

Sounds like a reverb problem to me; the background pads and drums causing a hissing reverberation/echo in the background.
Pros:
I dont think it repeats, thats a good thing.
Hmm, it seems to repeat a little.
Cons:
There really isnt too much here. Just some 80s drums, pads, lead that go through the song's sequence.
Im borderline. I feel this song could have had more happen to it, some strings, perhaps another instrument taking over the lead. Less repeating, a drumbrake... something.

I am hearing distortion when the base square gets louder. Im not sure if its just this sh*tty ass college computer that Im on, but I think its the song, rather, because its the only song that I hear distortion in currently.
Wow, what a messy sentense... anyway
So good job on the sequencing, the drums could have used more power. I'll say Yes based on the sequencing alone.

I think the guitar is rather well played, but yes it could use some 'cleaner' quality. The arrangement got me into the song, and thats a big plus.
Aside from the downside on the quality, it hink it deserves a yes
-Pro
I do quite a bit of hinking...

Well put together, sounds professional. I didnt care for the repetitiveness nor the 'mp3-badcompression' sounding effects done on some parts, but it still works.

Pros:
Good aranging talent! Good insane dance feel.
Cons:
2 minutes kinda short
wayyyyyyyyy too much release on those instruments, made everything muffle together.
Repeats, and for 2 minute song thats not really ok.
Kinda messy, but thats ok, it IS an insanity song after all.
I would suggest make it longer, try not to repeat, tone down the release on the piano/guitary thing. Very the beat a bit.
It was nice, but too short and too many problems, so NO, for now, but I would like to see this song fixed up a bit and resubmitted!

At first I was like What the HELL is this? Its sudden blunt start gave me a start aswell. But as I listened to it more I understood what Jack is trying to do here. Now after 2 listens i think its actually VERY cool SH*Z*T.
Instrument quality might not be in the high regarding some of those drums/flutes, but the sequencing is loverly.
I could see an orchistra playing this beauitfully
Also, I listened to the original spc and I see that Jack did quite a bit.
Two things that really got to me though:
Clipping
Some samples were horribly unlistenable
These two reasons are enough to annoy me each time I listen to it, but that sequencing job is still impressive, so I"ll go with Yes this time.
GJ Jack!

ok, I dont know what happened here.
Maybe its djp's evil plan to merge malcos and me into some kind of SUPER 3V1L JUDGE BEING.
Either way, My post was deleted, so Im just gonna say NO and go one with life. (No, being my original vote)
EDIT: yea, I think you just hit 'edit'. its right next to quote and quote and edit windows look exactly the same...

Pros:
Good use of bad samples
Good arranging ability, aside from the bad samples
Song got me interested in the game, BIG PLUS there
Cons:
Cant think of anything
transitions werent that hot, but they were ok
Excelent!

EW...
Synths are loud, clipped, and annoying. Im not sure about clipped, but thats how it sounds from here.
Flange is gettin to me, It sounds like something the scientists in Clockwork Orange would use to drive a man insane.
Nicely sequenced, but work on the beat some more, and the synths could sound cleaner, and perhaps try out some reverb.

.... what is going on here with the drums?
Pros:
envelopes that crazy feel aspect of that crazy ass game...
Cons:
Beats are rediculously annoying.
The middle section has off notes and is not very well put together.
Like that solo
Ok, heres my advice: delete the entire drumtrack and do it over. Fix some of the off notes in the middle and resubmit. Im ok with this song as long as SOMETHING is done with the drums. I really liked the variation on the melody.

HMM, this is gonna be hard because there are so many damn schala mixes. Sometimes, I just wish Janus would preform matricide. So anyway...
Nice, slow, moody, melodic expantion, all the things I like... but.. OMFG its schala again! I have 10 of these songs.
Still, thats irrelevant. I'll give it a YES because its not just another FL-lets-import-the-spc-and-play-around-with-flange remixes....
Also because its Nice, slow, moody, melodic expantion, all the things I like... etc
This wasnt a very good review, Im sorry. But at least ya got a YES, so QUIT COMPLAININ! geezus....

Wow, remix of metroid's title music. I was waiting for someone to do this song, cause like, there arent any remixes of this song, right? none...
yeah, anyway
Pros:
Nice beatin.
Nice Synth usage, nice expantion on the melody.
Cons:
Short, Too quick for a slow/moody song.
Again, Im borderline.
Im gonna go with ... uh....... YES cause nice melody variation, kthxbye.

Pros:
Sounds good, its got the feel in there. I had some trouble understanding the melody...
Cons:
A bit repetitive, but then again, fans of this genre are into that cra... EHEM... are into that lovely repetitive nature of such a BEAUTIFUL and DETAILED genre. OH YEA!!!
Anyway, this is simplistic, but the style is well done. Im borderline, but I"ll go with YES

Now for the real review:
Pros:
Love the feel. Its still there from one of my favorite FF songs ever.
Even with the ind drums the fell is still there. very good.
Cons:
2:00 gets crappy, didnt like that part at ALL
very nice.

Pros:
Interesting concepts.

Nice Sound Effects
Cons:

WHY SCHALA FOR GOD'S SAKE??????????????!111101001010101
kinda boring and repetitive.
Not impressed by the drumloop or whatever that was.
Some parts were offkey
Most of the song strays completely from any resemblence, concept, or quality of Chrono Trigger.
Its nice to have such abilities and skill. But This is too far from CT and has too many problems to get a yes from me
