  1. * Otakon 2006 was the biggest public performance of OC ReMixes to date (crowd of at least 300)
  2. Thanks for the comments guys and I'm glad y'all are looking forward to it If you hang out at any electronic music forums, know any DJs, or simply have a friend or two that likes EDM, give 'em a link. The promo would be much appreciated.
  3. Have you tried rendering as WAV to see if the crackles are still there then? Also, try muting the other parts and exporting JUST the timpani track. Isolate whether its the samples causing it or a general mixing problem w/ the project.
  4. Yes, I did mention that I heard some distortion in the timpani roll. It's not clipping in the file itself, it sounds like the recording distorted a bit somehow. But without knowing more info it's a little hard to diagnose. Do you only have the MP3 file? Is this a song you wrote, and if so did you use samples, or what? If the timpanis got distorted (clipped) in the recording process you can't really do much after the fact.
  5. Yeah, what po! said.. waveforms should start and end at a zero crossing to sound properly. However I do hear a little bit of distortion towards the left side on that timpani roll. Maybe he meant that?
  6. I don't teach lessons or anything, no, but I do offer tips and advice online.
  7. linkspast; I actually didn't think of that, but yes, I can provide MP3 download links on the release date to people that bought it. Remember this may be a little BEFORE May 10th so just keep an eye on the topic (it will be bumped + renamed). Pop me a PM or email and I can hook you up. CrazyOnr; The release date - be it May 10th or a bit before - is the date that my distributor will start shipping the CDs out to people, and the day that the digital DL will go up on my own site. So if you are going somewhere by the 11th it might make sense to have it sent to the place you are going. Thanks for the comments everyone!
  8. Look, it's one thing to put the spotlight on people who commit atrocious acts, because people want to know why they did. That's fine. But he is being GLORIFIED. They are putting up fucking PROMOTIONAL PICTURES that HE SENT IN to be famous. There's a hueg difference.
  9. I'll say straight up that I was the judge Kanthos consulted with in PM about this. I will also admit that I did not thoroughly listen to the entire mix as I would if I were actually judging it. I was somewhat busy at the time and gave it more of a cursory listen to get the general feel. The parts that I listened to did not seem to be very connected. Having been a judge for over two years I don't usually find it hard to make source tune connections, and if they need to be written out for me that is usually a negative in my book. However if the arrangement is all there and I'm just not seeing it I can't ignore that either. So, take that for what it's worth. I eagerly await a new version of this w/ tighter production.
  10. This one is just a big "huh"? Echoing what Larry said, I made basically 2 connections at most to the source tune. This is really an original song with vague similarities to a small part of the Mako Reactor theme. The style is completely different as well so it's not even the same feel or mood. Not to mention the sequencing and orchestration is really weird and unrealistic. Hit the ReMixing forum for tips on that front, but honestly, this is so far off on the arrangement side that I can't imagine fixing it. Better luck next time. NO
  11. Can someone explain why the fuck he's being made into a celebrity by the news? Posting his essays, putting up his picture with the two guns? Doing exactly what he wanted, and getting a lot of unnecessary attention for himself even after death? If there's one thing the media has shown us it's that if you're a killer, and you send promotional material to them, they'll make you famous!
  12. This forum is specifically used for critiques of songs, so.. go right ahead and post! In fact, typically, we don't let people post unless they *have* an MP3 to share If you just have general questions then the general Remixing forum is what you want.
  13. 3:56 is from a remix of "You Can Hear the Cry of the Planet" by bLiNd and Leifo. The Mako Reactor theme was remixed by sgx and sephfire and will be on the project.
  14. Ugh, I had a vote typed out for this and it got deleted. I'll summarize my thoughts briefly. The good: * Arrangement is creative. I like the changeup of style in the middle * Great variations on the theme * Good concept overall * Good synth design The bad: * Second half of the mix could use more of the original melody, it feels a little too liberal since you're mainly relying on the chords and original riffs for awhile * Ending is abrupt * Production is crowded + muddy throughout, bass is too loud in the second part. The drums have no punch, the leads don't stick out enough, the strings kind of fade into the back of the mix, etc Overall: This is a really strong submission but I think the production drags it down a little bit. If you just polish that aspect (less muddiness, more clarity) and maybe add a little more of the ice cap melody to the second part of the mix, I think this would be an easy YES. NO, RESUBMIT
  15. Well, doing a podcast featuring OCR material is fine... being the official OCR podcast is something else, djpretzel is really the only person who can give the go-ahead for that. But in general getting active in the community is a good idea.
  16. Yes, that is one of them - "Ladder to the Sky". The other I submitted was "Warhead".
  17. The Aeris mix is actually more like a waltz. But it's quite long and very intricate, and I assure you Robson did a grade-A job on it. Frankly, I really like his interpretation. It would have been boring to do yet ANOTHER sappy, emotional Aeris remix. How many of those are there? Put another way, what version of Aeris *isn't* like that?
  18. Thanks for the comments guys Another; www.zirconstudios.com/audio/LTTS.mp3 BTW another reason to preorder rather than wait for the release; the more preorders I get, the more copies I can send to CDBaby, rather than sending them in small increments (which is annoying and expensive). So tell your friends!
  19. Haha. We were thinking of that actually But it would probably make more sense after we've done the basic moving first, as we'll have to do some boring stuff first like re-painting and hooking up wires etc. But hey, maybe.
  20. Actually we are thinking about that now! Trying to get in touch with the current tenant...
  21. Hey guys, I wanted to announce that my new album "Antigravity" is officially released today! You can listen to previews and order it by clicking here. All album design (and my sig) courtesy of Cyan_Ide The album is over 50 minutes of electronic music in various genres, from breakbeat, to big beat, dnb, trance, and more. It's definitely a step up from Impulse Prime so if you liked that one (or any of my remixes) you will definitely like this. It also features several OCReMixers on various tracks; pixietricks, Fishy, GeoffreyTaucer, and big giant circles. Cyan_Ide designed the art and is designing a new website for me too. I've put nearly 2 years of effort into this project and really weeded out a lot of tracks that were not up to par, so I'm very proud of the final product. You can also pick the album up on iTunes! If you want CD quality WAVs and no DRM, you can pick it up on my website, too. Speaking of... I'd also like to add that the Zircon Studios website has been entirely redesigned by Cyan_Ide, from *scratch* - it's awesome. New content, news/blog system, reorganization, snazzy new logo, the whole deal. Flash and HTML versions for your viewing pleasure too. Anyway, you can visit the "Store" link on the site to pick up the WAV version of the album for $11.99. My previous albums are also available there in digital format, as well as iTunes. Enjoy! Feel free to leave your comments, reviews, etc. here
