  1. Cubase users, Unite! :)

    oh....

    wait...

no one is out there.

Hey, there are more of you out there then there are Logic users around here. And like SGX said, if you really want to talk about Cubase that bad, there are far better forums to do so. No point in whining about the FL and Reason majority here... again...

Also, another place you may want to check out is the Cubase section of the OSX Audio forum, since you're using it on a Mac and all.

  2. 5) Compy or others, any reason for preferring Cubase over Sonar, other than that you've been using Cubase for so long?

Personal preference. In the end, alot so sequencers pretty much all do the same things (though, some do somethings better than others) it's just a matter workflow, the user interface, learning curves, cost... and that differentiate them. When I use a PC for music, I used Sonar. Is it any better or worse than Cubase or FL? No, I just liked it more, that's all.

  3. I am also trying to learn piano.

It's alot harder to learn compared to guitar, IMO.

Cause you have to know how to read music? :P Man, I know so many guitar players who are really good buy can't read an ounce of music :)

And Chopin is very good. Actually, I'm playing on of his waltzes (Op. 64 No. 2 in c-sharp minor). Speaking of which, I should probably practice so I don't get yelled at on thursday...

  4. Hmm, the things that I use most often are:

    Logic Pro 7

Kuzweil PC2X Keyboard (for playing/sketching out ideas and midi input, I don't actually record any of it's sounds)

    Rode NT1-A Microphone

    Event TR8 Monitors

As for plug-ins and samples I mostly use the stuff included with Logic along with EWQLSO Gold, Stylus RMX, and the Kontakt 2 VSL.

For a more (but not quite) complete list: http://www.music.tgfoo.com/studio.htm

(yeah, I know, I need to redesign/de-suckify my site, but a) I'm lazy B) I'm busy, c) I don't like turning on my PC anymore.... and d) I don't have the flash skills to do it the way I want)

  5. ITS TGFOO's BIRTHDAY. HIP HIP HOORAY. I'll drink one for ya tonight, buddy. Have a good time.

(ok time to get off the internet...50 cents a minute from this cruise ship suuux. latas)

Awww, you spent 50 cents just to wish me a happy birthday... That'll teach ya for going on a cruise instead of sticking around to celebrate with me :P . Hope your having a good time :)

  6. If you don't find something inspiring in that pile of stuff, become a monk and renounce technology. :P

That's what I'm talking about. Shave your head and wear one of those goofy orange robes.

But seriously, there are a lot of good suggestions in here. Personally, when I have no ideas to work with, I like listening to music (in various styles) or just jamming on an instrument for a while. Usually I'll come across a couple melodies or chord progressions that just click with me... which usually all end up in songs that I never really "finish" :)

I once made a thread similar to this in another forum. I got a lot of encouraging posts and suggestions like you've gotten. Probably the most interesting suggestion I got was somebody told me to play chess. Didn't really work for me as I am really bad at chess (I lost to my computers chess game's AI in 7 turns, yes, 7 turns.... while it was on the 2nd easiest diffuculty setting  ) But hey, it works for some people, and I'm sure you'll find something that works for you.

  7. No kidding. I guess it's a good thing I didn't order a male stripper with a case of vodka for her, then... ;)

I'll take those.... My birthday is at the end of the month. With enough vodka I won't even notice the stripper anymore (or anything else for that matter...) 8)

  8. Really? Is that the regular price now? I remember it being on sale months ago for that price, but I thought that was a group buy or something.

If that's the reg price now, that's, like, a really awesome deal. 8O

They lowered the price on all of the EWQLSO line (Silver, Gold, and Platinum) by 50% (Despite what they claim, it's basically to get people using their products so they're updgrade to the XP veresion eventually). And I'm with Zircon. Leave Edirol alone, go GPO or Silver. I still prefer GPO's sound to Silver though.

  9. but really, who backs up files in two places in the process of writing and producing, back up is usually a process after you have finished a session.

People who don't want to lose their work.

That sounds about right... Every time I close my sequencer I make sure to copy whatever I was working on to a seperate hard drive. Also, I recently I've been saving different versions of the same song backed up just incase I make a major change and then the next day I decide "What the hell was I thinking when I did this yesterday?" (It's happened a few times...)

  10. Yeah, you can get some decent used keyboards. Though, I would advise not to buy a keyboard that you can't play before you buy. Sure plenty of people will be honest about telling you if there is a stuck key somewhere or other problems that it may have, but if you're going to drop a substantial amount of cash on it, it's best to try it out first hand first.
