Johnny Depp as Willy Wonka creeped the hell out of me and gave me nightmares. I think that image of him as the Mad Hatter is going to do the same.

Sorry for taking so long to respond. I forgot that I'll be in northern Virgina all day Saturday, so I won't be able to make it.

I haven't been to a live concert in a while and this one looks fun. I'll probably go.

Also, make sure you don't develop bad playing habits in the beginning. I've known quite a few people who never learned some of the basics properly and while it doesn't hamper them when they're still beginners it starts to when they want to get into more advanced things. It's a lot harder to break bad habits and learn new ones then it is to learn the correct ones in the first place. As my old piano teacher used to tell me, practice makes permanent, perfect practice makes perfect.

Opinions on something that I do...
tgfoo replied to BlackPanther's topic in Music Composition & Production
I do that with the volume on my TV or car stereo, yeah, I'm a little OCD about some things. Probably not an issue if you just doing ballpark settings, but if you're trying to tweak and fine tune things, probably not so good. -
Listening to Guitar as it's recorded - on a budget
tgfoo replied to The Pezman's topic in Music Composition & Production
Also, if Garageband handles recording like Logic does (which I'm pretty sure it does) then the recording will be clean (assuming there is no processing prior to the Duet) and all effects on the track processed in real time. -
Software/samples for orchestral music
tgfoo replied to dPaladin's topic in Music Composition & Production
You should be able to load at least 16 instruments into a single instance of PLAY. Just assign each instrument/patch to a different midi channel and then assign the midi tracks in FL with the corresponding midi channels. -
Do you listen to albums or songs?
tgfoo replied to Lie Mf B's topic in Music Composition & Production
No, I don't listen to music when I'm sleeping in my cube. That's just bad form. -
Congrats you two! Here's to a long, happy marriage.

I'm an album person. I rarely make play lists to listen to. Hell sometimes I'll just be listening to an album on my ipod and before I know it I've listened to it 3 or 4 times straight... as a matter of fact, I'm doing that right now. -
Software/samples for orchestral music
tgfoo replied to dPaladin's topic in Music Composition & Production
I have both QLSO Gold (both the Play and the non-Play versions) and VSL SE Extended. If I had to choose one to start with I'd go with the non-Play version of Gold in Kontakt 2 or 3 since you can do more tweaking and scripting there. Though, I haven't yet run into any major problems while using the Play version, but it isn't as tweakable. If you're unfamiliar working with orchestral samples, I'd definitely go with QLSO over VSL SE. QLSO sounds a lot better out of the box. With VSL you're going to need a good reverb (since it's recorded completely dry), you are going to need to know how to position instruments in a stereo field (since it's not pre-panned/recorded in orchestral position), and a lot of their instruments need to be EQ'd to sit better in a mix with each other (if you search on their forums you can usually find tips and user presets that will provide a good starting point for that). -
Damn, Crichton was my favorite writer. I've read pretty much every single one of his books (well, the fiction ones at least). So sad right now, and I was so looking forward to whatever his next book might have been. So the only living author who I enjoying reading now is Dan Brown... Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but Robert Ludlum died back in 2001...

Jesus I suck picking against the spread... Good think I don't really enjoy betting on games...

If you haven't bought the game yet, you can get a free $15 itunes card with it if you buy it from Circuit City... and if you're lucky they'll give you a random $15 discount on top of that. Man I love unexpected (and most likely accidental) discounts. Now only if work was over...
