  1. From my experience it all comes down to the most basic of mixing tools: volume, panning, EQ. Worrying about transients and whatever else is fine once you get into the real details of it all, but you get your basic mix done with just those 3 essential tools. When you go into ADSR editing you're really working on the timbre of the sound and that should be mostly taken care of before you even begin to get "into the mix". As stated before in this thread, the key is in choosing the right sounds before you start mixing. Also you have to be able to listen to the mix without bias towards that which you're trying to solve. If you focus on the synths then they'll always be either too loud or too soft or too SOMETHING other than "right". So learn to take yourself away from focusing and start listening to the entire picture.
  2. I've been using this same organ sound for years. It's very simply a B3 organ with distortion. I use NI B4, it has built in distortion effects. you want to make sure to pull most of the high stops to get that high end ring, and it helps to turn on a vibrato effect too.
  3. But why can't you just arm all the tracks for recording at once? Your controller data will be recorded to all of them at once.
  4. I don't use FL but maybe the technique is the same. In Cubase MIDI tracks have insert and send effects that you can use to route a single MIDI track as a master input track for any number of slave tracks. So check your MIDI track for a send section where you can route the input to multiple channels. If that doesn't work you can go brute force and simply copy the MIDI automation out of one track and paste it into the rest, not as fancy but it works.
  5. Whatever works for the song is the best bass you can use. If you get hung up on other peoples principles you'll never make music that means something to you. I mean yeah, if you're gonna be doing some jazz fusion trio where all you have is a clean electric guitar, drumkit, and fretless bass, you'll most likely want a dynamic and clean bass sound... but for most applications a brickwalled bass is a decent idea.
  6. 20,000 people did not ask you that question. EDIT: Oh, misread your comment. Still, what's the point of saying that?
  7. I think it's time to stop debating about the kickstarter and just be happy that people clearly care a good bit about our collective hobby of remixing game music.
  8. That's it, I'm starting a kickstarter of my own. No joke.
  9. In the end all I care about is having my self indulgent progwank on this album unaffected by the torrent of drama I'm getting from 20+ people from 5 different communities who expect me to give a shit about their views on this kickstarter business. As long as OCR isn't breaking a law we should shut the fuck up about it, but denying that it's even a possibility is just silly.
  10. The butthole that never heals. I don't think your personal vendetta belongs in this thread. PM me if you have a problem.
  11. "A 4-Disc Final Fantasy 6 Album from OC ReMix"
  12. In the end it's all a matter of ethics and integrity. I don't feel right having this much money raised by selling someone else's music. And having the money go to the site, which is fine if the KS was for the site, but it wasn't. As much as I try, I can't get my moral compass to point the other way. I do this for fun, and if I can get my music on a CD that's physical and nice, then fuck yes, I'll happily charge for that, but I have not and will not try to make any modest-significant profit from compositions I don't own. OCR gave me and everyone else shit when we sold CDs at $5-20 each, and now they raise $60k and defend it by saying it's site donation and whatever else... too slimy for me. I talked to DJP and really tried to see his reasoning but this whole thing is leaving a nasty taste in my mouth. Still, I'm glad OCR has this much support and I hope the money gets spent well and everything goes great. I'm just talking about my personal feelings towards this situation. If that money goes to buy the rights, then there's no problem at all, but as of right now it's just on that thin line of illegality and moral discomfort that's making me feel off. I don't want it to come off like I'm bashing the site or anything like that, I'm just giving my biased perspective on it.
  13. You mean keeping the $1 that's left after paying the printing cost, packaging cost, shipping cost? Bubble wrap, envelopes, etc? I had a good hamburger or two with the profit I made off of my CD. I'm not into making any real profit off of other peoples music. And that's just it, not only is OCR making (as of now) $60,000 off of our individual works, but OCR is also making that profit by selling music that even the musicians don't own. I think there's a bit of ethical sourface that comes with that, for me at least. And it really doesn't make you guys look good by adding an even bigger pledge after you were already way overfunded. It's like "Hey people are really donating! LET'S SEE IF THEY'LL DONATE MORE IF WE ASK FOR MORE!" It's mad shady any way you look at it. I don't like people who hide behind spun words and shady dealings such as this. Makes me feel all crawly.
  14. Yeah, as much as I want to support this thing it's looking more and more like shady politicians trying to hide a scandal. Adding that $10,000 pledge is pretty ridiculous...
  15. I think the real issue is that a traditionally not for profit institution who up till now was keen on going head to head with others because those others were charging for music is now making a profit on music. And the debate is more about the profit being spun to appear as no profit at all. So whose definition of profit is right? That's for you to decide!
  16. Right, and I think that's where the issue is. These are maintenance costs that have to be incurred either way, and the KS is specifically for the FF6 project. Personally I think it would be great for that money to go towards improving the site and paying for future hosting and more improvements, but that doesn't provide OCR much cover. Only thing we can do now is watch how this thing unfolds, it's very exciting.
  17. I already talked to DJP about what really concerns me about this, and I'm glad that he seems to share in some of that. It's not about someone keeping the money, but about the amount of money being put into intellectual property that someone else owns. I sold RnL CDs, but at that small level it's near impossible to turn a profit, which keeps me comfortable and okay with the idea of selling something like that. If I had gotten more funding for it I would have expanded the production, put more time in, etc, and I think that's what we're gonna be faced with here if this keeps gaining momentum.
  18. Here's what I think is happening: You have no idea this would happen, and you probably think you're gonna line your pockets while other people do the work. Everything is nice when it's all free and innocent, but when you start getting into large dollar amounts (100% of which are supposed to go to one specific thing) you run into some issues. You can spin this all you want and get into that typical mega defensive mode where you blindly battle the forces of anti-OCR to save the day, but as that dollar amount grows, so does the issue of where it's gonna go. You know that all the costs of production will not come close to the now $50k that's been raised. Remember, this kickstarter is for the FF6 project ONLY, not for OCR. It's not a "help OCR" fundraiser. If you fall back to "everyone is jealous cuz I got $50k" you're gonna be spinning on your ass when Square shuts you down like that they did that "FREE RELEASE" chrono trigger remake that was on kickstarter. Like I keep saying, being defensive isn't going to get you anywhere in a situation like this, being CAREFUL is what's needed.
  19. Wait so why is it that all the legitimate questions about where this $50k is going were deleted from this topic? That's the opposite of transparency....
  20. Yup, it's OCRs duty to make sure that the artists don't get exploited, as is often the case in all forms of creativity.
  21. Gotta watch out. The stuff that's in the vid doesn't come close to costing even the original $15k that the kickstarter was for. If this money is gonna go lining some peoples pockets under the guise of "site costs" then I'm gonna be dropping out ASAP. I don't work for free so that someone else can make a modest profit.
  22. So where's this money going? And don't answer with "It's going back into OCR, webspace blah blah", tell us the truth.
