  1. ********** UPDATE *********

    Phase Two -- VOTING --

We've had time to nominate games, so now it's time to start pruning the list.

Here's how this part works. I will post a list of ten games every day, selected randomly. Once these games are posted, they are fair game for voting. I'll be keeping track of the vote count as we go and update this post weekly with voting progress.

    VOTING RULES

1). All votes must include a few sentences explaining your reasons.

You can't just drop a "yes" or "no" on a game and call it a day. You have to tell us WHY you think each game does or does not belong on the list.

2). You can still make nominations.

I know that phase is "over," but there's really no reason I can't add a few more games to the voting cue. Especially since we're dealing with an enormous PC library.

3). Late voting is totally fine.

Just because you missed the day I posted a game and everyone else is voting on new stuff now, that doesn't mean you can't throw in a vote for a game I posted days ago.

4). A game must have at least two YES votes to be eligible for the must-have list.

If we can't get two people to agree that a game was great, then it probably doesn't belong on the list.

5). Changing your vote is allowed.

Because of this, debate and discussion are highly encouraged.

Let's get to voting! The more people contribute, the better our results will be.

    *************************************************************************

Welcome to the OCR Must-Have Games thread

For those who may not remember the original thread, our goal is to compile a list of games for each console that represents the finest gaming experiences that console has to offer. In the first thread, we spent about a month narrowing down the lists for the Dreamcast, Gamecube, DS, Playstation 2, PSP and Xbox. Now that we've had a nice break, I think it's about time we got started on part two.

This time, we're going back a generation or so. We will be compiling lists for the following consoles:

    Nintendo 64

    Gameboy Advance

    Sony Playstation

    Sega Saturn

    PC

    GENERAL RULES

1). What kind of games qualify for this list?

This list is reserved for the games that represent the best experiences each console has to offer. The cream of the crop. Some of these games may be powerhouse franchises (Halo or Final Fantasy), and some may be cult hits (Okami and Beyond Good and Evil).

2). This is not a favorites thread.

We're not here to vote on our favorite games. We're here to vote on great games. There are plenty of games that I personally enjoy that don't belong on this list. For example, just because I enjoyed The Bouncer doesn't mean it belongs here.

3). Ports and Imports are fair game.

Just because a game wasn't originally designed for a certain console or wasn't released in the U.S. doesn't mean that game can't be great.

4). Please keep fanboyism to a minimum.

I realize this is like asking some people to stop breathing, but leave the fanboyism at the door. These threads can be awesome or irritating as hell depending on how we handle ourselves.

5). Only vote on games you've experienced.

If you've only played it for fifteen minutes at a friend's house, don't vote on it. If you haven't played it, don't vote based on the reviews you've read. This should be pretty straight-forward.

    ********************************************************************************************

  3. Some of you may recall that I usually post a "teaser" WIP for remixes I've just started working on. It's to give you of an idea of the sound I'm going for and what you can look forward to. Here's my latest, by popular request.

    http://www.sephfire.com/music/angel_smile.mp3

It's a somewhat different sound for me, but I've been trying to experiment lately. I'm sure everyone's getting tired of the timpanis, yes? :<

Keep in mind, it's just a teaser. The arrangement is non-existent, the source-material is pretty obscured. It'll get better, I promise.

It's going to be a remix of "Angel Gifts," by the way.

  4. You're welcome to suggest one off-list, but it's chances of getting picked aren't quite as good.

Also, I'm considering the main Katamari theme, but "You Are Smart" and "Angel Gifts" have both given me some ideas. I'd say Angel Gifts is the most likely choice of the three.

    My other considerations are:

God of War: "The Vengeful Spartan" and "The Great Sword Bridge of Athens."

    KH2: "Passion"/"Sanctuary"

    Disgaea 2: "Spread Your Wings"

Okami: "Giving Kushinada a Ride" and "Northern Country Kamui"

  5. Gerard Marino told me at VGL that he will give you whatever you want (MIDIs, sheet music, SFX) if you want to do a God of War mix of one of his tracks. Just contact him, drop OCR just so he knows where you're from, and hopefully he'll hit you back.

    That is way too awesome.

  6. I've had several games on my to-do list for far too long and haven't had the time to do anything about it. I'm determined to at least get started on one, but I can't choose where to start. So I figured: "The ReQuest people almost never get the remixes they ask for. Why not let them pick?"

And so, here is my list of games that I am determined to remix. I've got some specific tracks I'm looking into for each, but I'd love to hear what you guys want most.

    Disgaea 2

    God of War

Katamari Damacy / We Love Katamari

    Kingdom Hearts 2

    Okami

    Psychonauts

I've had some other games on my list too, but these are the highest priorities. If you want to ask which tracks in particular I'm looking at, feel free to ask.

  7. "sephfire" was the file name of a jpeg I saw once and it had a nice ring. Since then, I think most people have assumed I either liked sapphires or was a ravenous Sephiroth fanboy (or some mixture of the two). I've gone by other handles in other places. The most frequently used: "cAtf00d."

Since OCR is one of the first places I used this handle, I feel it "belongs" to OCR in some way. What do you guys think? Should I consider changing my handle or just leave well enough alone?
