  1. I've got tons of presets. I almost never use them as is though, I often tweak them until they become almost unrecognizable. It's got me thinking about getting into sound design.

Some people just want to create music right away and don't have the interest/time for the process of creating their own sounds. I don't think I've ever seen someone claim there's something wrong with that.

As for drum loops I often layer them together with my own sequenced drums.

It's never a good sign when the devs feel they have to defend their game like that.

And a nice interview with Inon Zur here:

GN: After the game is finished, do you go back through a play it again with all of the music in place?

Zur: Sure thing. I'm actually really anxious for the game right now, so I can pop it in and start playing. I'm really looking forward to see it. I know there are a few bugs that still need to be fixed. Unlike other titles from Bioware, this [score] was kind of a rush job. EA really wanted to capitalize on the success of Origins, so the game was really being pushed hard to be released now. So I'd like to know if there are bugs, or if there's anything we could patch or fix. [Editor's note: Zur is speaking about bugs in the score only; he had no involvement with the rest of the game's development.]

Would love to hear what some Bioware folks have to say on the development after they've left the company. That was pretty much the case with C&C4, after the team was laid off some of them said pretty bluntly that the game was rushed out and the changes were forced on them from higher-ups at EA.

  3. OK, why the heck do I have to download the high-res textures as a patch? that is so weird.

Just be glad you didn't have to pay for it as DLC. That certainly wouldn't be below Bioware at this point.

  4. No, he means:

And "techno" is generally accepted as an all-encompasing label for electronic music, just like "electronica". I see no more problem with using "techno" to describe a piece than a similar categorization like "rock" or "jazz".

Techno has fallen out of touch as a catch-all term. Everyone is calling everything "electro" now instead. Pretty annoying seeing as the music was pretty underground as late as around 2004, now the internet is saturated with so much regular house or whatever labeled as electro, it's kinda tough to pick out the genuine stuff.
