  1. By the way, the first tournament is underway for MK Wii. It ends tomorrow. More than anything it's like saying who's the best at a slot machine :P

Some of the times on the ranking board seems impossible though.

  2. Not sure if Google Video has the 10-min time limit or not, but a few years back I uploaded something to youtube and the video/sound what out of sync... so I uploaded the same video to google video, and it worked fine. Nothing to do with time limits, but google has my recommendation ^_^

I did once try to record stuff from a game though - after trying a whole bunch of video recording programs that didn't work very well (or at all), I believe I used a program called "Game Cam" and it worked beautifully. I can't remember if it can record sound or not though, since I didn't need to record sound and video at the same time.

IIRC, Youtube doesn't like .mov and .avi files, so that's probably why it was off-sync.

  3. CPUs didn't follow the same rules for items (MANY character-specific items per lap, jumped clear over your items half the time) or kart stats (DK/Bowser didn't have such bad acceleration when they were CPUs).

Good items like lightning and stars were still rationed out to players according to place. I don't see how you can make a claim that SNES Mario kart didn't rubber-band.

After you played for a while, you'd see that CPUs generally run in the same route on a track. You could then place a banana peel/green shell at that spot, and you would hit someone every time.

CPUs only used their character specific items. Mario's and Luigi's star power didn't even make them go faster. No CPU had access to lightning bolts.

You're right, CPUs did ignore things like character stats such as acceleration, but they didn't always keep up with you. On a lot of tracks, you could get a pretty big lead and keep it. While SNES MK did have some rubber-banding, it's no where near as harsh as it is currently :P

But anyway, has anyone played much online? Nintendo did such a good job. I also loved how I got a friend request on the Wii message board. Not having to input a code to add my friend? Awesome! :P

  4. SNES Mario Kart didn't have rubber-banding. Well, it had one case. If a CPU got hit by something and another CPU with less points passed that CPU, then the CPU with the higher points would pull back ahead.

  5. QFE. For all those complaining about rubber-banding:

If you find so much enjoyment in coming first all the time, then just stick to the 1P Grand Prix and beat up the computers.

Yeah, try coming in first place every race when playing 150cc. You can't really try, you just have to hope.

Besides, I wasn't saying that I want to come in first all the time.

  6. You're not a sore loser. It's how I feel too. For some reason Nintendo has something against people that are good at their games. Look what they did to Brawl. They made it so beginners can have the same level of playing field against an expert. For some reason they think this makes it so every one is having fun. Well, to me it's not fun when you're getting robbed of the victory that should be rightfully yours. It's definitely not fun when you're about to win, and the game is basically like "screw you" for doing well in the race. In 5 seconds you get hit by a blue shell, a red shell, and a lightning bolt.

  7. My friend got Mario Kart Wii tonight, and I have to say I'm disappointed. It was fun for a little bit, but then it was just annoying since it's so luck based. The game does look great though, and I love the stages.

It seems that Nintendo doesn't like people that are good at their games, so they want to give everyone a chance to win at least once :P

Guess I'll just have to play it some more.
