  1. Have you guys seen the Humble Nindie Bundle?

    https://www.humblebundle.com/

Only for people in North America, but it bundles 9 games (the 9th is still unknown) and I can (mostly) vouch for their across-the-board quality. Stealth Inc. 2 is fantastic, with leaderboards for stages and co-op. OlliOlli is an unexpectedly-robust 2D skateboarding game. Steamworld Dig is a short but sweet Metroid-esque action game. Guacamelee is, too, but a little less on the short and a whole lot more on the sweet.

Really, the whole deal is just fantastic. I haven't tried every game yet, but the few I mentioned above make this pack well worth getting.

  2. I've got it and the amiibos on preorder. Love me some tiny inanimate figurines.

I didn't play the Global Testfire, but my friends did and they are very hyped for it now. One of them even bought his own WiiU in anticipation.

  3. I played it. It's good. EO4 is also good. Untold is like 2 games in one, even. There's the classic mode which has you build your own party, and the story mode, which has additional areas to explore.

Also, get Rune Factory 4 if you can. Just do it. It's one of the best RPGs I've ever played. Loads of content.

  4. Lucas confirmed to return! He doesn't appear to have changed his moveset any, but it's still awesome to see him coming back.

Also now the official site has an entry form. You can write in any video game character you want as a suggestion for the next DLC fighter. I wrote in Biker from Excitebike. In my mind he'd fight while riding his bike.

  5. I solved my power problems. I cleared off space on the internal storage, unplugged the external drive, and downloaded the trilogy. It took an absurdly long time, leading me to believe that even the WiiU itself doesn't commit much power to downloads. Oh well, at least it's fine now.

  6. I bought it but when I go to download, it downloads all the way (takes an hour) and then gives me an error, saying there's not enough power going through the hard drive. I haven't had this problem with any other downloads, but then again none of them are the size of MPT. My HD is hooked up with a USB Y cable to the two back USB ports on the WiiU. Should I try unhooking one USB and plugging it in the wall, or use a powered hub, or do you think it's just an error resulting from high traffic on the eshop? Advice would be welcome, or it'd also be great to hear if anyone else had this problem.

  7. Has anyone else been collecting those little bundles of plastic joy called Amiibo? I have and it's made me a crazy person.

Oh, sure, the first two waves were fine. Wave 1 arrived all at once and it was a joyous occasion. Wave 2 came in 2 parts, but at least it was all there. Wave 3 though... Wave 3 has destroyed me.

I missed out on the preorder craze for anything retailer exclusive. Rosalina, Meta-Knight, Shulk, and Lucario, all sold out and gone. I began stressing over it. When they showed up on Amazon I was overjoyed, but saw their prohibitive price tags. I began checking Amazon exhaustively, several times per day, every day. I managed to scoop a Shulk from Gamestop in the US, while I live in Canada.

Then Target exited Canada. Goodbye Rosalina. Oh, and there's no Best Buys on Vancouver Island, so farewell to Meta-Knight too. I finally gave in and ordered those 3 from Japan for $100 total, a steal compared to what some insane scalpers are offering, but the damage is done. I'm still checking amazon all day checking on my orders and seeing if there's changes and when the hell are wave 4 smash amiibos gonna be available and why are the mario ones not up yet and so on.

I don't even really want them for games. That's just a bonus, I want themed Nintendo figures and that's it. Have I gone crazy? Is anyone else struggling with this absurdity?

  8. They aren't releasing the regular size here because the regular 3DS did so poorly here (to the point they dropped the price by $80 and released 20 free games for people who bought it early, remember?). The numbers indicate Nintendo of America sees no market for a smaller handheld. Plus, face plates are neat and all, but I seriously doubt many people give a single whiff about them. A handheld isn't seen as much of a fashion accessory here.

And yeah, the Majora's Mask 3DS is hard to find because SCALPERS AGAIN. The few you do see online go for like $600. Screw that.

  9. The latest Nintendo Direct has some interesting tidbits that I will list here.

    - Wii games are going to be available for download on WiiU, with additional gamepad support. So far they've announced Mario Galaxy 2, Punch-Out!!, and Metroid Prime Trilogy. Galaxy 2 is available right now, even.

    - Tingle and Young Link are the new playable characters in Hyrule Warriors. Skull Kid is a costume. Poor guy.

    - Splatoon has a May release date.

    - Namco is developing some kind of online multiplayer dungeon crawler currently called Project Treasure. Available "soon", and will be F2P. We'll see how that works.

    - Xenoblade Chronicles X got a new trailer. It'll be out sometime this year. Probably for Christmas for NA.

There was also a bunch of stuff for 3DS, including Project STEAM, Majora's Mask, Monhun 4, etc. Oh, and a new Fire Emblem.

  10. Fox, Falco, and Sonic got new recordings. In Fox and Falco's cases they go back to their original voices from SF64, and Sonic got his new voice actor. Ike, Marth, Captain Falcon, Mario, Luigi, Peach, Meta-Knight, Link, Zelda, Toon Link, Sheik, Ganondorf, Zero Suit Samus, Yoshi, Lucario, Pikachu, etc etc etc are all the same.

  11. I've played like 12 hours or more over the last 3 days. If I got any CDs, I haven't noticed.

Also played an 8-player extravaganza with 7 amiibos. It was pretty fun and funny but they started to really kick my as after only 5 or so matches. That said, amiibos can give you goodies via winning matches. So if you train them up and they win fights (maybe put them on a team with you?) it might be a good way to get the less common equipment, extra money, trophies, and custom moves.

I've got a Kirby amiibo who is absolutely beastly. He nabs every item, tactically uses every final smash, delivers crazy beatdowns and has longevity in spades.

  12. I had 6 players plus one amiibo. It was a lot of fun, but a bit unlikely to be a mainstay of our play.

Great Cave Offensive is sometimes just too colourful and spread out to properly play. It's very easy to lose sight of.... everyone. But maybe I'm just hating on it because of that ONE EVENT MATCH. Kirby needs to go from 130% to 0% by eating food in roughly 90 seconds. Absolutely dreadful.

Oh, speaking of amiibos, I got the entire first wave. They are actually quite gorgeous. Paint jobs are top-notch and the stands don't really detract from them. Only one who looks weird is Villager, because his nose is lower than it should be, but oh well.

We also played a round of smash run. Since the max is 4 players we really didn't get a good feel for it, since there were about 8 or 9 people present and we played the shortest match possible (15 rounds). Will need to play more later to get a better idea of how good it is.
