  1. Bummer... looks like there will be zero dialogue in this game.

On an interesting side note, my roommate was dead convinced that Palutena was Farore before I googled an image of her and showed it to him... could be, though, now that I think about it. Nice little game overlap?

  2. Subspace Emissary is looking more and more like an RPG in a fighter's clothing, if you ask me. I'm kind of getting the feeling different characters join your "party," depending on the choices you make, and that throughout the game, you can choose (perhaps at the beginning of a level/area) which of these characters to play as. Choices you make throughout the game look like they'll affect the places you go and the characters you encounter.

Ugh... this could also be like Soul Calibur 3's single player mode...

  3. Best update ever. I know nobody much liked Star Fox Assault, and it's been a long time since I've played it, but is it possible that the pig head in the 3rd pic is the Pigma/Alien combo? And I think those eyes with the protective covering were in Revenge of Metaknight on Kirby Superstar.

  4. Are you referring to the guy with the wooden eye? That was actually Barbossa's piece, he just used the guy to keep it in. That's why he spent like half the first movie chasing it around. :P

No, actually I was referring to good old Hector Barbossa himself. Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't he revealed as Sparrow's first mate in the first movie?

  5. In the current future (where the present Hiro and Ando teleported to), Peter *didn't* save the cheerleader, and therefore didn't get her power and can't heal.

Yeah he did. We saw her alive. Future Hiro going back in time altered the future.

  6. I really hope that they don't implement the motion sensing techniques of the wii controller into the game. it would make real strategic playing kind of tacky. I wish this game would also be released for the gamecube.

Also, is SSBM supposed to be released this year?

Last I checked, SSBB is set to use Gamecube controllers instead of the Wiimote.

Also, Magikoopa? It's not even a unique character, it's just one more of another, like Goombas.

If yer gonna say Magikoopa, at least say whats-her-name, the hag from Paper Mario, Kammy Koopa? She has character, but she's just not right for the game fighting style wise.

Uhhh, Magikoopa WAS a unique character. Yes, it was the generic name for a set of enemies, but it was also the name of the antagonist in the Yoshi's Island games.

  7. While I enjoyed Majora's Mask, my main issue is the boss fights being easy. Yeah, maybe they were in TP, but you know what? They were FUN. Seriously. I think that's more important than their difficulty.

Goht (MM) and Stallord (TP) are probably the most fun boss battles in Zelda history. Personally, I saw a lot of Majora's Mask in Twilight Princess, and they're two of my favorite Zelda titles.

  8. SPOILERS:

I read speculations that Minnish Cap hinted at a 4th part of the Triforce, and from what I can tell, Twilight Princess does as well through the presence of FOUR light spirits. Notice that in Lanayru's monologue after gathering his tears of light, he mentions that 3 light spirits were created by the Godesses. We can assume these to be Faron (parallel to Farore), Eldin (parallel to Din), and Lanayru (parallel to Nayru). Who, then, is Ordona parallel to?

Also, was the Ganondorf in TP supposed to be an entirely different Ganondorf, similar to how Link is not the same person from series to series? I almost got that impression due to the fact that the Sages were surprised to find he held the Triforce of Power.

  9. Nah, just that as far as I can tell, Death Mountain in the east and Lake Hylia and the desert in the west is more consistant. That said, what the fuck Zora's domain.

That's because the GameCube version, which is a mirror image of the Wii version, is actually the official version. In the GC, Link is once again left-handed, and the locations match up a lot more accurately with OoT (with the obvious exception of the Temple of Time).

  10. I agree with you.

Mario 64, I mean, I got so excited when I first played it. A big 3D castle. I was like awesome! And then next thing you know you are jumping through paintings?

And Super Mario Sunshine, what the hell! Since when did Mario ever use a water machine to "clean up".

Also, the baby bowser is something that should of been different in NSMB. They should of as you said have the kooper kids.

I think I first realized that Mario 64 was leaving the Mario tradition behind when I reflected upon how few enemies were defeated by jumping on their heads. That was always how Mario worked, and in SM64, it was such a pain to jump on a Goomba's head; way easier to punch them.

3d jumps didn't seem the same.

  11. I have not seen much of Mario Galaxy, but I was dissapointed in how the game is set. I wanted a brand new mario game for Wii set in the lush enviroments of the Mushroom Kingdom. The true, classic stroy. Princess is captured, and Mario is to the rescue. Also I heard there are robots as enemies? That isn't Mario at all.

Anyway, DS. I recently bought NSMB and I love it. It's so awesome. Some levels are really short though thats the only stupid thing.

    Current DS games I own:

    New Super Mario Bros

    NFSU 2

    Mario 64 DS

Mario Kart (my friend code 158979 503275)

Metroid Prime Hunters (I have no idea how to see my friend code on this game)

    Jump Superstars

    Rayman

    Star Wars Episode III

    Project Rub

    DragonBall Z Supersonic Warrios2

    Splinter Cell - Chaos Theory

    Goldeneye Rogue Agent

    The Sims 2

    The Metroid Prime Demo

There, If any of you have Mario Kart and Metroid Prime and can play online, care to give me your friend codes?

I am really looking forward to Final Fantasy III and Zelda The phantom hour glass. And I hope Nintendo decides to create a Super Smash Bros game for DS with Wi-Fi that would totally own.

Exactly how I feel. Mario Galaxy has lost the Mario feeling. Personally, I think SM64 is where the series began to go astray, even though SM64 was a great game. Sunshine went even further off track, and now Galaxy is looking very VERY un-Mario-ish.

Phantom Hourglass appears to be similar to NSMB in that it combines the new with the old, 3D with retro.

The only complaint I have about NSMB is Baby Bowser. He is a new generation character. What ever happened to Bowser's other 8 kids?

  12. I didn't want to make a new topic... so this is where I'll rant.

So, upon reflection of the New Super Mario Bros., I come to you sad, and disappointed. Why is this? I'll gladly tell you.

Every single Mario game, up until now, has changed the way we play platformers. Super Mario 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 (YI) and 64 are the greatest platformers ever made, bar-none. The Super Mario Bros. series is *THE* standard for 2D platforming. Furthermore, Mario has, on many occasions, been dubbed the "KING OF PLATFORMING!" Isn't that saying a lot?

New SMB, IMO, is a step back. And right now, everyone's just buying into the hype. I sure as hell did. All those GODDAMNED news and reviews sites are fucking liars. No one gives their opinion like me. I've been to gamerankings, I know how people like to suck on Nintendo's dick. Well, this time, for me, it ain't going to happen.

New SMB, is basically SMB1, with a pinch of SMB3 thrown in for good measure. It's much more old-school than its predecessors, which isn't a bad thing, but hey, I'm not going to sit here and wait for 10 more years for them to come out with a game that resembles Super Mario 2 with a pinch of Mario World or whatever... it's just more of the same. There's not really any innovation or genre pushing features in the whole freakin' game.

I guess I'll just have to wait until YI2 comes out to get my full platforming gaming fix on. This game, in all its little magical tricks that it does, with its great graphics and cool powerups, falls just short of greatness. The reason for this is 2 things: 1.) it is not challenging in the slightest, not even when it's at its hardest, and 2.) it's over before it even gets started. You can skip through this game in 2 days, I sure as hell did. Yeah I'm taking my time now getting all those star coins, but what the hell? I've played all the stages, they're all easy and short and a VERY few amount of them feature really good gameplay. The wall jumps weren't taken advantage of and the powerups weren't either. The Mega Mushroom is just fanservice, and the blue shell isn't even really useful. And you get 1-ups up the yin-yang! Jesus, you think they could have cut back on the chances for 1-ups? I mean c'mon folks, even Super Mario 3 didn't give you this many chances...

Man, this game is really NOT as good as everyone says it is, but it's selling through the roof just due to the sole fact that it's a new Mario game. Period. It has nothing to do with being good. If this game was released on the N64 8 years ago it would have been awesome, but now, not really. It deserves a 6, at best.

I, for one, am sick of "innovation," and I know I'm not alone. I guess people'd rather have classic series keep coming up with ricidulous gimmicks such as Mario's Fludd Cannon from SMS.

NSMB was not supposed to be innovative. It was meant to be a throwback to the old days. You play it for the nostalgia, not the innovation.

Seriously, Mario Galaxy looks, IMHO, way too far-fetched. No resemblance whatsoever to Mario's roots.

I'd take a nice, simple, 2D game anyday over some gimmicked out 3D suckfest.

  13. Full customization is the one thing I'd really like to see here. I mean, make player one have 4 lives, but the first 2 be played with fox and when he loses them, turn to link, which is 1.5 times bigger then the other characters, but is also weaker and if they both get down to 1 life, change the level from brinstar to brinstar dephts. You know, be able to actually create your own game modes.

    Now THAT'S awesome![/billEngvall]

Also, I (and a bunch of my friends) want to see more customizable characters. Some of my friends have suggested something akin to CAW mode from the WWE games, but that seems to go against what Nintendo wants for this game. I personally want to see something like in Soul Calibur II, where you can unlock more weapons and outfits (maybe even the custom outfit idea from SC3?), but their attacks remain essentially the same, save for power, smash strength, etc.

Lastly, I demand that their costumes be more than stupid recolors. Except for a few of the characters in SSBM (Peach: in one of her costumes, her hair is reddish-brown, and she wears Daisy's outfit; Ice Climbers: in costumes 3 & 4, Nana's in front; Pikachu, Pichu, & Jigglypuff: accessories... because they're naked without them), everyone's "costumes" were just recolorations of their original outfit.

Yeah, more costumes, especially for Wario. I want classic Wario, not the WarioWare version.

And I've said before, make Fox and Falco into ONE character, just alternate costumes.

By the way, what do you figure the chances of Pikachu turning into Raichu for his limit break are?

And while they're at it, Mario and Luigi should have alternate costumes that are Bob Hoskins and John Leguizamo....
