  1. [*]Any mavericks from Mega Man X5 will have their Japanese names used, because naming Mavericks after the members of Guns 'N Roses was stupid as hell and Capcom USA should be ashamed.
That's why I always used essentially slightly more localized versions of their Japanese names (i.e. what they should have been called):

Crescent Grizzly, Tidal Whale, Volt Kraken, Shining Firefly, Spiral Pegasus, Spike Rose, Dark Necrobat, and Burn Dinorex.

  2. the 3ds is a really good evolution of that. but i think it's lame that they use something like the ds or the 3ds as an excuse to show off the same games we played 10 or 12 years ago simply because it's on new tech now.

i'm not really asking for complete overhauls, i just think that nintendo could put more effort into something like a new star fox 3ds launch title, considering that series has had very little development since 64 came out anyway. that was 97, and there have been 3 new star fox games since then, i think, right? why not use this opportunity to at least make a new game based on the same engine?

Who says they're not? The 3DS is very, very new (it would have been announced today had it not gotten leaked to the press awhile ago and forced an early announcement by Nintendo), and it's very likely that any games for it are still so early in development that it was easier to adapt an existing game to show off the new tech.

As far as Donkey Kong goes, one thing that may or may not have been in the announcement (I was at my company's booth all morning and haven't looked at the official press releases yet) is simultaneous two-player co-op. I played it for a bit with the guy behind me in line and it seems very well-done. One nice thing is that unlike the Super Mario Wii co-op there's no collision with your partner so you can't accidentally push each other into enemies or bottomless pits.

So I was listening to the Mario RPG soundtrack, and I just realized... There's not a single boss battle remix from this game on OCR (Bowser's battle theme was reused from Mario 3, so I'm not counting that one). How'd that happen?

So the Fight Against Smithy track, I think, would make an awesome remix. It lends itself really well to techno, but I think a hard rock or orchestral version would sound amazing as well. So, who wants to take the challenge and make it happen?

  4. Another request, this time from a game that probably got far less attention than it deserved, Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem. An awesome game, the musical score was very atmospheric and moody. After careful consideration, I decided that this track in particular would make for some fantastic remixes.

  5. So for a little while now I've been posting suggestions for remixes from obscure games, or tracks that aren't on OCR, or popular games that don't seem to have much representation here. This one is a little different. I was listening to Robo's theme the other day, and I had a vision. A vision that was both horrible and awesome at the same time. See, it occurred to me that Robo's Theme shares a few chords with Rick Astley's Never Gonna Give You Up. And, the internet being what it is, I think someone needs to take that concept to the next level.

This week's remix request is the Flea Pit from an obscure but insanely fun SNES title called Plok, which had a wonderfully inventive and, for the time, high-quality soundtrack (OCR currently has one Plok remix, which uses the title theme). This particular track is very creepy and ranges across a number of different themes, clocking in at a length 3:12 before it repeats. There is a distinct lack of Plok remixes out there, and this track in particular should make for some good ones.
