Siamey
Hey all, Whenever I use a vocoder in plain EQ mode (which sounds neat and could be useful of not for this problem), it adds a couple ms of latency to the signal coming out of it, which obviously renders it useless. Any thoughts on why they would have the EQ option if it cant be used properly? Is there a dial I need to turn to sync it back up? Thanks ps if you dont understand what im saying i can post a demo rns EDIT: it seems worse when I use the FFT 512 setting
Siamey
nothing? nobody has the slightest idea what im talking about? hmm. cool.
Rozovian
AFAIK, "a couple ms of latency" shouldn't be much of a problem unless you're mixing dry and wet signal (in which case you've got loads of problems, so don't).
Siamey
im talking a couple hundred ms, you can notice it and it sounds like shit. and i have no idea what you are talking about
Malcos
I haven't been on these forums for ages! Finishing uni and all that stuff. I can hear a slight latency when using the 512 band mode, but it's not too bad - it sounds like maybe 25 ms delay, 40 at the most. I layered 2 house rex loops to test it, and the latency actually gave it a more dancy feel lol*. I suppose depending how you use it, it could definitely become a problem. The vocoder is good because it almost completely kills the signal rather than just attenuating it if you turn a band all the way down. EDIT:* No, actually it sounded shit. Sir_NutS
The Vocoder EQ does adds some level of latency, it depends on several factors (cpu and number of bands for example). I would not recommend using the vocoder as an EQ because it inherently "taints" or "colors" the frequencies even if you don't make any adjustments. The new parametric eq or the old 2band should suffice.
