Better sounding kick drum

If this has already been posted, pardon my ineptitude but I searched for it and didn't find anything that actually related to my specific issue.

I'm using FL Studio 8, and I need a good kick drum sound. So far I've been using the "RealDrumKits" Kick_1 or whatever, and it sounds like crap. If I bring it exactly how loud it needs to be, it drowns out everything else and makes all other sounds duck under it. I've been listening to the kick on songs by remixers such as Dr. Manhattan, BrainCells, SnappleMan, Sixto...and their kicks sound great, but I'm totally oblivious to getting a good sound. Anyone feel like helping me out here?

If you have a mastering plugin on your final mix, remove it now.

EQ to remove the rest of the instruments out of the frequency range of the kick, compression to make things punchy (not required, though) and of course having a good source works. Ask them which libraries they use?

Definitely need to EQ. EQ the hell out of it. I like my kicks to have a nice thud so I boost at 60Hz and around 1KHz and make cuts at around 150-200Hz and 600-800Hz.

Alternatively, if you make music with lots of double bass, consider boosting higher (3000-5000 Hz) for the typical clicky attack (has a lot to do with compression as well)

if you layer the kick it very possibly will make it sound better. this dosent help with the pumping and breathing but youll gett a fuller kick sound.
