prophetik music Posted December 3, 2008 Posted December 3, 2008 i have a DX-LCD32-09 tv - it's a dynex branded tv that you can buy a bestbuy or something. it's a 720p tv and it's got an hdtv tuner. what do i need to do either of the following? 1. recieve digital over-air broadcasts so i don't have to pay for cable 2. get hd programming (do you need cable for this, or do stations broadcast in hd as well) thanks, guys! i know computers inside and out, but i dont' know jack about tvs =) Quote
Equinox Posted December 3, 2008 Posted December 3, 2008 You need a QAM tuner, which can pick up local HD channels. Quote
zircon Posted December 3, 2008 Posted December 3, 2008 You can, by default, receive digital over the air broadcasts with that TV. You don't NEED anything else. You will even get HD channels. However, the TV itself won't get great reception, thus you will ideally need a digital antenna as well (looks like a circular piece of plastic, just ask in radioshack.) Quote
Sole Signal Posted December 3, 2008 Posted December 3, 2008 EDIT: Zircon beat me to it. I'm using a basic $20 antenna I picked up at K-Mart with my HDTV, and can get most of the national networks in HD without cable (NBC, CBS, FOX, ABC), as well as a bunch of local stations too (WGN Chicago, UPN, etc). prophetik music Posted December 3, 2008 Author Posted December 3, 2008 i live in the hills, so i likely will not get great reception for over-air channels. i'll look into getting a cheapo antenna for the tv. thanks guys. Quote
Gollgagh Posted December 3, 2008 Posted December 3, 2008 oh cool, I was wondering about this as well Quote
Effef Posted December 3, 2008 Posted December 3, 2008 I totally would have done this already if i had a HDTV :/ Quote
