Mirby
*BUMP* chumble_spuzz contacted me; he's checking his hard drive for stuff. Can't let this get to Page 2 again...
TehDonut
Hey for those of you helping with the coding, what language do you guys prefer? I found a java library that should be easy to support this type of game, but if you guys are comfortable with c/c++, I can find a better one. Mirby
We may be actually making some progress finally! Some. Not a lot, but hey, you gotta start somewhere, right? Those sprites are coming in handy! Thanks a lot, DJSymBiotiX! Oh yeah... BUMP
LuketheXjesse
I have 4 deadlines (NiGHTS, Kirby Super Star, Golden Sun, iptorrents album) to meet with right now. Once those are out of the way I'll be free to get cracking.
Kenogu Labz
Hey for those of you helping with the coding, what language do you guys prefer? I found a java library that should be easy to support this type of game, but if you guys are comfortable with c/c++, I can find a better one. Don't use Java for creating games. Its libraries are just too slow. Anything in the C family should be fine, though. Also, how exactly is the music gonna be made for this? I wanna help if I can, but that's entirely based on my time availability and who's doing music, etc. And it may be better to leave it up to people who actually have mixes posted, too. Mirby
I'm still waiting on LuketheXjesse and Cyril. AND YOU'RE NOT HELPING WITH THE CODING! BWWWAAAAAA!!!!!! Actually, anyone's opinion counts here. But we've already found a pretty smooth Java engine for this. However, if you can help with finding a suitable C family replacement, I think we could work something out. And you'd get your name on the first page under Programming Team or whatever title I gave it!
Cyril the Wolf
I'm still waiting on LuketheXjesse and Cyril. Its finals week. god.
Kenogu Labz
Well, for one, there's the XNA libraries for C#. Windows-specific, but integrates with XBOX Live, with only minor alterations. Actually relatively pleasant to work with. Doesn't draw primitives, but it can handle 2-D graphics fairly well, and has relatively simple shader scripting built-in. I haven't really worked with many other libraries. Most I've tried have been in C++, and most of them were uuugly thanks to C++ fruit cocktail syntax . And I don't wanna help with the programming anyway, I'm doing enough of that at school. :
Mirby
@Kenogu: Well thanks for the suggestion. @Cyril: And excuuuusee me, princess! Just messin' with ya. We kinda need a base program before music can be added anyways...
Mirby
DUBLPOST! Actually, just wanted to notify everyone that this is still going on. Our main programmer, TehDonut, has found a C+ engine, and I just sent him backgrounds from Crush Crawfish's stage (X3), since the opening stage is a port. Also, if you read this, Donut, here's some tiles. Also, for you folks, here's a background that I snapped. Let's keep on truckin'! Music will be done once other obligations have been fulfilled by the composers too.
Mirby
So sue me. It's a TRPLPOST! Donut made a pretty nice, albeit slow, basic demo via SFML. http://www.mediafire.com/?o3u5jk13gnm Arrow keys move, Z shoots (no actual bullets), and X jumps. Both Donut and myself have a complete X1 sound effects archive as well. Thoughts?
FireSlash
Don't use Java for creating games. Its libraries are just too slow. Anything in the C family should be fine, though. I'm writing Cura in Java. No performance issues here. I was getting 1600fps with the old tile renderer. Note that I never did any serious optimization to that code, and that was with vertex lighting, several tile/bg layers, and other bits you probably won't be using. 42
oh crap, i've completely forgotten about this. o_o;
TehDonut
well i dont post much on the forums, but i hang out in mirc, so if you wanna chip in just idle #ocrtangame on etg also, anyone else who wants to help out, feedback would be greatly appreciated on these demos. I may post some from time to time so be sure to check in every now and then
Mirby
42, you are on the programming team (as is BlackPhantom) so if you could help out here (I think Donut here would greatly appreciate it, as would I), it would be great.
Mirby
Prodigious bump. Yes, we're not dead. This is still being worked on. ^.^
Thin Crust
What if this actually got moved to the projects forum?
Mirby
Then it would be cool. But I think we'd need a substantial demo before that would happen. We still only have core movements for OCR-Tan (walk, run, shoot, dash, jump, dash and shoot), no enemies, no music, and no background. Mirby
Okay, progress on this will slow down. 42 never got his stages done, so Cyril won't be able to make music since he needs that. Donut and Luke are back in school soo.... yeah. Still, progress (or lack thereof) bump!
42
Donut and Luke are back in school soo.... yeah. Make that three of us. 42 never got his stages done, so Cyril won't be able to make music since he needs that. Methinks I've missed a memo somewhere. I will be sending out memos of my own tomorrow. Still, there's one pressing question: who exactly is doing the actual level designs themselves?
Mirby
You are. Make them as you want, I'm not worried. But that was your task all along, 42. Or so Donut told me you agreed to. The only reason you're still on the programming team is because, unlike BlackPanther, you've made an effort, albeit small, to work on this. Mirby
Just posting to let everyone know that Donut and 42 are working on stages, intermittently. But it's being done! This project isn't dead yet! [and I finally subscribed to this thread so next time it's dead for a month I can find it a lot quicker]
42
Intro stage design is now complete!
Mirby
Okay. Minor update on the front page. #ocrtangame has moved to EsperNet with #ocremix and all associated channels!!
Mirby
Sorry for the double post. Just letting everyone know, if you didn't pay attention to the topic title change, there's now a deadline for the intro stage completion. April 6. Good luck!!
