DragonAvenger
Remixer name: Daybreaker - Userid: 36011 - Name of game(s) arranged: Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask, Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, very little from Legend of Zelda: Windwaker - Name of individual song(s) arranged: The two songs which make up the bulk of the remix are the Song of Healing and the Song of Storms/Windmill Hut, but I include small bits from other songs. In the order that they first appear-- Song of Storms/Windmill Hut, Bolero of Fire, Serenade of Water, Song of Healing, Gohdan (Legend of Zelda: Windwaker), Inverted Song of Time, Shooting Gallery, Song of Time, Kokori Forest, Epona's Song (barely detectable) and Sun's Song. - Song of Healing: Gohdan: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VmhIGvM9ZPw Inverted Song of Time: (third song) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RHie7Ln2txc&feature=related Shooting Gallery: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FUEuMggQdwM Kokori Forest: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ahHBtn71EsE The rest can be found here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hBbcDZNG_-o (Or individually: Song of Storms/Windmill Hut: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l-ZPpGdt1xQ Bolero of Fire: Serenade of Water: Song of Time: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C6oZSp49Oss Epona's Song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ild0XredLlk Sun's Song: (third song) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hBbcDZNG_-o)- This started out as a remix of the Song of Healing only. Feedback indicated that it was too conservative, so I was trying to switch it up a bit when I realized I could put the Song of Storms on top of the Song of Healing chords, and the Bolero of Fire fit in nicely. My little brother found this amusing, so I smashed as many songs as I could in the Song of Healing to make him laugh. I decided some of it had potential, so after many adjustments, here it is, with thanks to Rozovian, who was kind enough to render it for me. As for the title, while I play the newer Legend of Zelda games, I miss the ocarina. This song includes most of my favorite ocarina songs and brings back fond memories. (Rozovian wishes to be included in the writeup rather than as a collaborator.) - I thought an overview may help any judges who are not familiar with the sources: 0:00 - 0:18 -- Song of Storms 0:19 - 0:28 -- Song of Storms, Song of Healing chord progression 0:29 - 0:31 -- Bolero of Fire, Song of Healing chord progression 0:32 - 0:34 -- Song of Storms, Song of Healing chord progression 0:35 - 0:38 -- Serenade of Water, Song of Healing chord progression 0:38 - 1:18 -- Song of Healing 1:18 - 1:21 -- Gohdan, Song of Healing chord progression 1:22 - 1:24 -- Inverted Song of Time, Song of Healing chord progression 1:25 - 1:26 -- Shooting Gallery, Song of Healing chord progression 1:27 - 1:29 -- Song of Time, Song of Healing chord progression 1:30 - 1:31 -- Gohdan, Song of Healing chord progression 1:32 - 1:33 -- Kokori Forest, Song of Healing chord progression 1:34 -- Epona's song, Song of Healing chord progression 1:35 - 1:40 -- Song of Healing 1:41 - 1:47 -- Sun's Song 1:48 - 1:58 -- Song of Healing 1:59 - 2:11 -- Song of Storms 2:12 - 2:14 -- Song of Time 2:15 - 2:31 -- Serenade of Water - (I see some composer and game information already on the site, so I did not include it.) --------------------------------- - Song of Storms - Song of Healing - Bolero of Fire - Serenade of Water - Gohdan - Song of Time - Song of Time (for real) - Shooting Gallery - Kokiri forest - Epona's song - Sun Song
DragonAvenger
I have to admit when I saw this submission I was worried. Very worried. Especially reading the line, 'My little brother found this amusing, so I smashed as many songs as I could in the Song of Healing to make him laugh.' So, I can say that I was surprised when I heard a pretty cohesive track the legitimately included the sources as mentioned. I am also super glad that you included a breakdown of what is where, because some of these would have never been spotted otherwise, which is a good and bad thing. Listening with the guide, I was able to figure out all of them, but having so many short blips of themes makes them very difficult to spot. I also found the transition from the Song of Healing to the Song of Storms at 1:41 to be a little weak. The piano playing is nice and emotive. The dynamics are also there, although I would have liked there to be more in that department. This is a tough decision based on the arrangement, but I was impressed by how most of the sources were included, and it was overall a nice listen. The fact that the track does manage to stay fairly cohesive at the same time is what I think seals this is a pass for me. YES
OceansAndrew
dizamn, that is a lot of sources! Thank you very much for including all of the timestamps, this would be an insane nightmare otherwise, since I am somewhat familiar with all the ocarina themes, but i'm not so familiar that i could sing them on command. Production was pretty good, though it sounded like some very light clipping on the right side for some of the lower notes. Can any other judges verify that? The performance is nice and nuanced, and the level of dynamics keep it interesting. I think enhancing them a bit more would have been pretty cool, but they are alright as-is. Overall, a really nice package of melodies, though if there is clipping and it's not just me, that needs to be resolved. Yes (conditional on clipping)
Fishy
Christ's fat cock that's a lot of sources. Thanks for including the breakdown, much appreciated. For a song where you were literally just 'smashing' as many songs into a chord progression to make your little brother laugh, this flows surprisingly well. Performance is dynamic and spacious, samples are nicely treated by Rozo. Not too shabby at all. YES
Vig
Hmm. It's nice. My opinion fluctuates. Sometimes I think it's a bit too aimless, but there are certainly points of dynamic interest. Ultimately it's nice, but it's really not cohesive enough to be a solo piano OCRemix. I'm not saying there's anything really wrong with it, but we've got to set a pretty high bar in terms of composition and scope for solo piano mixes. Palpable
Toughie. I don't think this goes as smoothly as it could have if it stuck to less sources, but I am impressed how many of the transitions sound natural. There are some cool volume and tempo changes to keep it interesting, gives it its own flow. Yeah, I guess I'm good with this. Most of it sticks to Song of Storms and Song of Healing, with the other songs thrown in as cameos. It felt like it had enough cohesiveness. Didn't hear that clipping OA was talking about, but it might be something very soft. YES
OceansAndrew
Seems like this can't be updated, and listening to it, the clipping is super soft - not breaking the mood or anything else. I'm fine with this passing as-is.
