Theophany Posted February 4, 2011 Posted February 4, 2011 This was made using samples I recorded of a small, 19-string harp http://soundcloud.com/theophany/theophany-folk-harp Let me know what you think! Quote
Natalya Zarraga Posted February 4, 2011 Posted February 4, 2011 Wow, cool! That sounds pretty awesome. I've never made samples before, but it might be something fun to try in the future. I myself have a harp of my own, a 29-string one, so I was naturally drawn to this post. Great job! How do you even do these samples? It baffles me. Quote
Theophany Posted February 4, 2011 Author Posted February 4, 2011 Thanks! It's a lot of work, and pretty tedious, but it's not difficult. The library has close to 2,000 individual samples when you include the glissandos, dead slaps and sound board percussion. I recorded them all, processed them a little bit, re-tuned them, then programmed them into Kontakt (which makes it a virtual instrument playable on a keyboard). I've always wanted deep sampled harp libraries, but they just don't exist at the moment. So I'm planning to record a 47 string concert harp in the next month or two, followed by a 30 string celtic harp Quote
Mak Eightman Posted February 4, 2011 Posted February 4, 2011 Wow! Thats a great work! I love Harp's sound, but my samples sucks, that is way I used it just once in my mixes. It will be more then awesome if you make some Harp vst-inst(which can be used in any daw, not just kontakt). And probable I even buy it! Well probably.. Not so sure.. I'm poor. I like that melody btw! Did you played it on keyboard or "draw" it?? Quote
Theophany Posted February 4, 2011 Author Posted February 4, 2011 I "draw" most of my stuff, then tweak it to sound more realistic. I don't have the ability to make a VST, so it will have to be Kontakt for now : / Glad you like the melody! Quote
Merlandese Posted February 6, 2011 Posted February 6, 2011 Amazing samples! I love the song and the quality is awesome. Quote
Diseased Project Posted February 7, 2011 Posted February 7, 2011 I enjoyed it. Sounds really good, and the composition is relaxing (for the most part). I don't know the proper word for this, but the only thing I didn't like are those sweeps that start in ~0:47. But as far as sample showcasing goes, this is well done. And the track itself is pretty good too. Quote
Theophany Posted February 8, 2011 Author Posted February 8, 2011 Thanks! I think you're talking about the glissandos? If you mean they didn't fit the composition, I can see why you'd say that. I put them in there mostly for showcasing. But if you mean they didn't sound good, that could be a mixing or compression issue with soundcloud. The quality leaves a lot to be desired. Quote
Diseased Project Posted February 8, 2011 Posted February 8, 2011 No, as I said the sound quality is good but the glissandos as you called them, didn't fit in the composition in my opinion, hence I didn't like them. Quote
