Hey Judges,

PrototypeRaptor here with a new remix of a oft-loved but rather underrepresented game: Sonic Adventure for the ill-fated Sega Dreamcast.

I loved the opening theme from the moment I first watched the intro cutscene and have wanted to remix it forever, but I could never settle on a particular style to do it in...

...until I realized while listening to the Pendulum album "In Silico" that the song was practically begging to be done in their style of Rock'n' Bass.

So, here is my shameless recreation of Rob Swire and Company's sonic world (ha) of angular beats, epic vocoded choruses, sawtoothy synth madness, and DAT SNARE.

Enjoy, and thanks for listening.

-original

lyrics:

Thunder, rain, and lightning

Danger, water rising

Clamor, sirens wailing

It's such a bad sign

Shadows of dark creatures

Steel clouds floating in the air

People run for shelter

What's gonna happen to us

All the steps we take; all the moves we make; all the pain at stake

I see the chaos for everyone; who are we; what can we do

You and I are same in the way that we have our own styles that we won't change

Yours is filled with evil and mine's not there is no way I can lose

Can't hold on much longer; but I will never let go

I know it's a one way track; tell me now how long this will last

I'm not gonna think this way; nor will I count on others

Close my eyes and feel it burn; now I see what I've gotta do

Open your heart, it's gonna be all right

Ancient city blazing

Shadows keep attacking

Little children crying

Confusion, hopeless anger

I don't know what it can be but you drive me crazy

All your cunning tricks make me sick; you won't have it your own way

Can't hold on much longer; but I will never let go

I know it's a one way track; tell me now how long this will last

I'm not gonna think this way; nor will I count on others

Close my eyes and feel it burn; now I see what I've gotta do

Open your heart, it's gonna be all right

If it won't stop, there will be no future for us

Its heart is tied down by all the hate; gotta set him free

I know it's a one way track; tell me now how long this will last

Close my eyes and feel it burn; now I see what I've gotta do

Can't hold on much longer; but I will never let go

I know it's a one way track; tell me now how long this will last

I'm not gonna think this way; nor will I count on others

Close my eyes and feel it burn; now I see what I've gotta do

Open your heart, it's gonna be all right

major props for remixing this song. not much to complain about here.. if I gotta nitpick, the vocals seemed a bit repressed, and the arrangement is pretty conservative (much moreso than your usual fare imo), with the melodies and lyrics being left pretty much the same. I love the way you've treated the chorus though, and the second half of the track in particular has some nice deviation.

nice riffage, and a very cool take on the source, but those vocals sound buried a lot, and some of the lines ("moves we make", etc) can't quite keep up.

The arrangement is a basi genre shift, but there is a lot of care in putting it to new instruments in an intelligent way, and it's a definitely recognizable but unique take on the source.

It's pretty solid stuff, but damn it's loud. ;_;

I'd like to hear the overall volume brought down a hair, and the vocals emphasized a bit more, if that's cool.

Pretty tite. Not the best pendulum pression I've heard, but definitely not a bad one (better then minelol). Not too bothered by the overall volume. This is pendulum OA, who cares srsly.

Vocal is sitting ok in the mix for me. Structurally is very conservative but plenty of small changes all over.

Nothing further your honour.

Fun listen, pretty easy pass. There were times I thought the vocal could have come up a bit, but other times, it was sitting good. Didn't seem especially loud to me, but Pendulum really sets the bar for loudness themselves, don't they? It was more distorted than loud, but it was obvious it was done for effect. One thing I thought could have been improved is the build-up to the title lyric. The dropout always felt like it came out of nowhere. But let's not drag this out.
