Monitor Alternative (primarily for laptops)?

in addition to standard headphones as an alternative to mixing with monitors?

(I'm not asking "if it's possible" because I know that. I'm asking if it's recommended for someone like myself who prefers recording mostly with a mobile laptop setup rather than a studio).

The only person I know who's tried it is Another Soundscape, one of the judges here. I remember him tweeting about it, and I asked him about it directly. Basically, it's really, really good.

I don't buy it. The MAIN reason to use monitors in a treated room is so your body can feel the music. You can't feel shit using headphones that are going through an IR processor to make you think you're in a room. The only thing that'll improve your mixes is experience.

Your music will sound exactly as it would if it were piped through speakers in a room and then re-recorded with a microphone and then sent to your crappy headphones.

There are so many levels of conversion from electricity to air pressure back to electricity back to air pressure, it's just... there's no way it will ever sound exactly like it would in the studio.

At the very least, it will sound like your mix sent through expensive speakers, recorded back in with expensive microphones, and then sent to cheaper headphones or laptop speakers???

No, it's just silly when you think about it.
