OceansAndrew
Took a lot of listens to get a handle on this one; There are some good moments, but there are also a lot of moments that seem really sparse and thin. I'm not sure that the source use is over 50% either, because it's spread out so much. Also, it's 10 minutes. I do think it could be edited pretty fiercely to fit more in OCR's style. DragonAvenger
Took a lot of listens to get a handle on this one; This 1000 times. So, this one had me thinking for a long time. I can promise you that if you didn't provide a breakdown, I would have never found any of the source parts (which are mostly ambient and not super memorable TBH) in the mix. With the breakdown, I am hearing them better, but overall it's very sparse, and a lot of the source parts are downplayed. I think as a whole they need to have a stronger focus in the mix. I'm also noticing that all the source parts you use sound extremely close to the original parts. The sounds are near identical, which is cool if you re-created them, but it's also making me wish there was a little more variation in either the sounds of the small melodic lines that you do use. The meat of the problem to me is the sparse feeling of the source usage and how similar it is to the original. It doesn't help how stretched out the track is, as well, and I think this could benefit from some trimming. NO
halc
yeah, very interesting mix here, this is a pretty cool avant-garde sort of piece. personally, I really like a few parts of this. the bleeps and bloops are very pleasing to the ear. there are some neat changes to the groove, but the instrumentation doesn't evolve much throughout the track, which is already kinda sparse and dragged out, and could've been more straightforward with the source usage. some cool arrangement ideas to be sure, but the overall execution needs to be more focused.
