Hello. It's been quite a while since my first/last submission to OCR. I'm writing now to submit an arrangement/remix of mine called "To Times Once Forgotten." This orchestral arrangement borrows a bit from my contributions to the first edition of a certain Yasunori Mitsuda Tribute album, and consists of pieces from Chrono Trigger for the SNES, and Chrono Cross for the PSX, including "Star-Stealing Girl," "Dragonrider," and "The Brink of Death."

ReMixer name: Vampire Hunter Dan

website: http://vhdan.tripod.com

email address: vhd@look.ca

URL for the arrangement/remix file

Thanks very much for taking a listen.

It has been a while, if memory serves, it was 2 years ago since VHD submitted to OCR. He used to have a reputation 2-3 years ago for being one of the best orchestrators in the community and it's pretty evident here.

Arrangement of the several themes are interwoven extremely well. Impressive in that aspect. My favorite part of this though is the interplay between all the different instrumentation. This is textbook orchestratal, and done very well at that. Great sequencing of chromatic percussion. I love all the little subtle performances that really breathe live into this.

Production is amazing, but what impresses me is, I don't think I've ever heard an orchestral mix in this community that use reverb to create such a great soundstage as this mix does. The front to back placement in the stage is amazing. Very authentic.

Good arrangement, great concept and execution and toughtful production. Masterful work. Direct post material. YES

http://www.tzone.org/~llin/psf/packs2/Chrono_Cross_psf.rar - 102 "The Brink of Death", 204 "Dragonrider", 306 "The Star-Stealing Girl"

http://www.snesmusic.org/spcsets/ct.rsn - "Wind Scene" (ct-1-09.spc), "Sara's Theme" (ct-3-06.spc)

Not gonna bother trying to figure out exact time references; stuff checks out with me

I will vote on this by simply copying the ROFLicious vote of the former judge Binnie Katti of Northern Virginia for Dan's Breath of Fire submission a few years ago:

Digital Coma]This ain't no rip. This is an immaculate medley of a rearrangment. Should have been direct posted.

Not even going to bother writing a full review.

Still holds true for Dan's stuff now. DP worthy. Nice work, Dan.

Medley Mania

Themes connect well------Orchestral samples are amazing and I wish they were mine especially the brass and fast moving strings---------------Long but enough variety to justify length-----------My favorite sections were the arrangements of "Brink of Death" and "Wind Scene" BUT WHO CARES?????----------------That's it.

For as many themes are here, they are combined quite nicely. The arrangement of each of those sections is great as well. I would have preferred fewer themes and even more fluid transitions but there’s a solid drive throughout the piece that carries us from start to finish without too many hiccups.

I don’t think that the harpsichord at 1:31-1:45 is strong enough to stand on its own. The sample feels too flat and buzzy for such a great instrument. However, its return as a supporting instrument at 5:56 through the end is delicate and delightful; easily my favorite section of this mix. What a great way to close the mix out. And what a great way to close out this vote, 3 and 2/3 straight YES’s
