Need help identifiying this.

In Mario is Missing, in the Super NES version, each location has a remix/variation of a song from Super Mario World. They're all easy to identify, except the song used for NY and LA, posted, (hopefully without violating the rules) here:

I've never worked out which tune from SMW this was supposed to be. Does anyone else know? It's bugged me for years, and I figured this to be the best place to ask. Incidently, it also happens to be my favorite from the game.

I've played Mario World a lot but that song doesn't sound familiar to me...It sounds a little like a Mario 3 song, maybe the water world theme, but that's all I got :/

Barely had a hint of Super Mario World's Overworld BGM theme from :09-:11, but I definitely can't place the theme as being an arrangement, AFAIK.

Glad it's not just me that's having a hard time with this one. I still like the theory that it is the end theme though. I forgot about that. Need to go home and listen to it again.

It kinda sounds like the ending theme, but I think thats a coincidence more than anything.

Super Mario World, after all, didn't actually have a lot of different tunes - most of its music were variations on the same leitmotif.

I just now realized how much of Super Mario World's music is the same basic theme done different ways. Testament to how clever Koji Kondo got with the usage :dstrbd:

Final Fantasy IX is like this as well. Same song played in variations.
