Chlysm
I recently got an iPad air and I've been having alot of fun with the garage band app and now starting to dabble into some other stuff. Been impressed with it's capabilities so far and so I've been thinking about using it as a DAW via an interface. I currently have an aging Aardvark Pro Q10 from 2000 which records up to 8 tracks in CD quality. Works great, but I need to have a dedicated PC running Windows 2000 so it is kind of a pain. Especially considering that it is rare for me to need to record more than one stereo track at a time. I have and still plan to use it for the rare occasion when I'm recording an entire band but it would be nice to have something that would interface with an ipad that could record 2-4 tracks at a time at 24/44.1KHz without latency issues. Midi interface would also be nice too, Any recommendations?
Flexstyle
This might be just the ticket: http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/Scarlett6i6 You'll need the USB adapter for your iPad but that's not expensive. The 6i6 is listed on Focusrite's website as supporting iOS, and I've owned multiple variants of the Scarlett line and love all of them. Very stable, very clean. theshaggyfreak
I use an ART dual usb pre with the camera adapter on my iPad mini. What's nice is that the ART unit can be battery powered.
Esperado
You supposedly can run midi through the lightning to USB adapter(the same one you need for the Scarlett interface) and just a plain usb midi cable. That is assuming you only need one midi input at a time.
akalink
Check out the Alesis io dock. Its compatible with all verisons of the ipad, gives you two combo jacks with guitar/line swithces, gives you standard midi I/O as well as usb midi, and allows you to hook up a set of studio monitors via its balance line out.
