Liontamer Posted September 26, 2024 Posted September 26, 2024 Artist Name: Mike Norvak I made this remix for my "Redoomed" album. I think this track or others from the album would really fit the halloween season. I went with a "Reduked" (a previous album by my self) style for this remix while adding elements from Darksynth and a base from Midtempo. I also reused some of the original song Roland SC-55 sounds and other 90's sounds to keep the essence of Bobby's soundtrack while adding some retro-futurism to it. I hope you'll enjoy it! prophetik music Posted October 3, 2024 Posted October 3, 2024 opens with a pretty fat bass and kick, and the basic four-note motif in a higher synth. a secondary bass element comes in on the off-beat (really feels like it could have used some quant to shuffle that farther back in the beat) soon after. there's some more lfo sfx, and then we get a very interesting synth at 1:27 with a wild attack on it. we get a bit of a break at 2:07 - the bass line is still going, but the rest of the track is dropped - and soon after transition back into another additive building section. the bassline's getting a little tiresome by this point so i wouldn't have minded a shift in that break. this builds up with a variety of elements, mostly metallic-feeling, and at 3:24 hits the big blow of the track. i would have loved to hear more new stuff in here, maybe something that's more explorative of the four-note motif, but at least there's some chordal shifting in what's going on. 4:42's the beginning of the end, and we get one last representation of the motif through the chord progression before it's done on a slow, distorted sustain. i really like the rhythmic focus to the track. there's no way you were going to write some orchestral etude off of the limited melodic content of the original, so focusing on the rhythmic elements of it and translating them in various ways is a nice idea. i think we could have used some more variation in the middle third of the track, but overall this does some neat stuff and explores new areas in the original. Liontamer Posted November 11, 2024 Author Posted November 11, 2024 Lots of room to get expansive and varied with this theme, so I'm interested to hear what direction Mike takes it in. Hell yeah, speeding it up's a nice touch, and taking it in an electronic direction; I'm down with this. And there it is at :30, some original countermelodic writing gets added in, then starts ramping up at :48. Yep, this is all a logical path to go down, I'm glad to hear Mike execute it so well. Bigger stylistic shift at 1:27 that sounds cool, but as soon as I was worried that the source tune would get deprioritized, the stuttering pattern faded back in at 1:47 following the chord progression, then the theme itself quietly started again at 2:06 and then featured more prominently at 2:26. This is a really fun theme, so I liked getting constantly hit with new and creative textural variations. 3:23 moved over into the effected vox sounds once again and was purely original composition, then the stuttering progression came back at 4:02 and the straightforward melody theme returned at 4:41 for the close. Knew this would be good; Mike is awesome! YES
Chimpazilla Posted December 28, 2024 Posted December 28, 2024 Yeah this is cool! The simple yet heavy drum pattern is perfect to accent lots of synth tomfoolery happening on top. Lots of interesting sounds and textures, squelchies and sfx. Arrangement is good, lots of dynamics and energy shifts. The mixing is good, mastering appropriate. Groovy mix, fun stuff! YES
