prophetik music ⚖️ Posted December 13, 2024 Posted December 13, 2024 This was made around Halloween but I just got around to uploading it. I heard there was no Darkstalkers remixes yet on OCR so I figured I'd give it a shot. Pixelseph recorded the guitar lick at the end for me, so big thanks to him for that! prophetik music ⚖️ Posted December 13, 2024 Author Posted December 13, 2024 opens with a big organ flourish, and then we get some strings and keys alongside sfx. there's a lot going on in the 200-300hz range here so it sounds kind of overlapped and dense. some lower strings come in quickly which is good since there wasn't much there. the lead instrument here sounds nice and is idiomatic in presentation. i also liked how you adapted the descending solo lines from the original. there's a huge shift at 1:03 to darkwave and the initial hit sounds fantastic - i can see the skeleton playing the violin on the youtube thumbnail in my mind and everything. toms especially sound great. there's a break as the track takes a breath and gets ready for the second half (i like the idea of losing time in here), and the hit at 2:06 is great. the bass synth sounds really fun and is really dark. i like all the extra bits that come in along the side and i also like how heavy the sidechain is since it really fits the feel. melodic material comes in at 2:46 and is pretty straightforward in how it's realized. 3:23's B section is a little bland - i would have liked a change in the backing synths here maybe, or at least something else to mix it up. we continue through the melodic material in a bit of a falling action, and then we get some pixelseph at the 4 minute mark. after this, keyboard cat plays us off into a very extended fadeout - this is like 40s of fade, it's way too long. i'd have preferred a much shorter parabolic fade, and tbh if you'd just dropped instruments slowly in a subtractive manner that'd have been good too. most of this track is so enjoyable! the vibe of the darkwave sections is great, the string work in the opening section in the lead especially sounds super thematic, and there's a lot of fun little ear candy as the track goes along. i wish the ending was better handled, but i'm not gonna let that get in the way of what's overall a fun and enjoyable package. Chimpazilla ⚖️ Posted March 26 Posted March 26 I do hear that heaviness in the high-lows and low-mids, mostly in the intro. The piano and strings in the intro sound great! The violin could be a touch louder but this works. The storm fx are a nice touch. The darkwave soundscape when it hits at 1:03 sounds terrific, and the transition into the new genre is surprisingly smooth. The sidechaining here is delicious, nice and strong. The slower-paced source material works nicely. The slowdown at 1:53 is unexpected and cool, and then wow we are into some heavy dark stuff that I am loving. I do agree with proph that it would have been nice to have a little more synth sound variation, but the writing is varied and fresh and super cool. Seph's solo which is unsurprisingly excellent slides in there so smoothly, I only wish there was more Seph throughout the arrangement but I'll take what's here! Fadeout ending is boooooooo in my book, a slight disappointment but not dealbreaker. Production is clean, master is on the loud side but not overcompressed. Awesome track! YES
Hemophiliac ⚖️ Posted March 30 Posted March 30 Love the piano/violin duo to open the track. The violin is fantastic sounding. Really sets the mood nicely as we get going into the main style at 1:03 with cyberpunk-esque synthwave in full swing. The break at 1:41 felt to come early, but a change in texture is always a good one. 2:07 gives us the actual delivery of full sound now and it goes hard. The side-chaining is on point and big tom fills fit in perfectly with the style. Drum pattern change at 3:23 was excellent, and came at the perfect time as I was starting to feel tired of the previous pattern. A very slick blink and you'll miss it guitar cameo from Pixelseph right at the very end of the track. Could have been next level if that came in sooner and continued the track with some guitars playing leads afterwards. Audible clipping at 0:44 that seems to likely be the piano. I would have preferred the melodic elements to be mixed more forward and louder as it should be the main focus. The fade out ending came so quickly after we reached the peak of energy building with the newly introduced guitar that it does feel like a bit of a let down. The track evolves nicely with an awesome vibe, and plenty of changes in the writing to keep the interest going even though there isn't much in terms of synth variation. YES
