prophetik music Posted December 18, 2024 Posted December 18, 2024 Oh it's been a long time OCRemix! I was going through old computer files and found this track I apparently made in 2016, and just never uploaded....sorry about that. Anyway, here's a track that mostly remixes "The Man With The Machine Gun", which itself is a 1980s sounding track. My remix mostly takes that and dials it all up to 11. Keep doing what you do OCR team! Sorry it's been so long, life just got in the way, but here's to another 25 years of OCR! Games & Sources FFVIII - Man with the Machine Gun FFVIII - The Landing
prophetik music Posted December 18, 2024 Author Posted December 18, 2024 sfx opening, and then we get some chips and foley for the opening out of machine gun. there's a neat vibe that comes in once the beat and everything's active, and then we get the filters dropped and the 'real' vibe hits at 0:34. this is a really head-bobbing feel, and i really like the variety of sounds used. lot of sidechain on the lead at 0:57 when the melodic line comes in. there's tons of stuff changing and coming in every few bars which is neat, and it doesn't ever lose the core of the feel. there's a big drop at 1"59, and we get the driving feel still but it's all in the bass synth. there's some noodling around with the MwtMG theme, and it builds up to a big hit at 2:56 that's a chopped up version of the upbeat section from The Landing to my ears. i like the chord changes here as well - simple patterns but really updates the feel. there's a bit of a beat change right before the ending, and then it's done. ending isn't really prepped but what's here works fine. mix on this is great, it's loud and in your face and never feels squeezed. the kick's this huge boomy roomy sound and i think it works perfectly. what an enjoyable track. love the energy and love the style. excellent work. Liontamer Posted December 24, 2024 Posted December 24, 2024 Hell of a throwback palette; awesome sound design for the intro. Ramp up at :34 was very muddy but thankfully only lasted until :42 (again from :50-:57); still, I had to throw on a control track to make sure my headphones setup wasn't jacked up. Arrangement-wise, it has huge energy and good textural evolution to keep things dynamic. The drop at 1:59 followed by the tension right afterward until 2:29 was tremendous. Wasn't expecting the instrumentation shift around 2:27, but it still works. More old disk drive action to transition into glitching, intensity, and density for the final minute. We definitely appreciate you sending in some old gold, Jack, and thanks for being a part of the exemplary, creative arrangements that have made OCR what it is. :-) YES
XPRTNovice Posted March 6 Posted March 6 I love the Casio printer style intro followed by like, dime-store handheld music samples. This is a fun way to start a song. verbally yelled "fuck yeah" when the guitars came in - but I do have to say that I think there's something that could be Eqed in there to make them come out a bit; I think we've got too much in the 200hz range on the EQ there, and maybe not enough in the highs. Because you have the synth covering those Freqs, carving out some space for the guitars would really make them come out cleaner and more powerful imo I could use a tighter EQ on the kicks, but this is a nitpick. Maybe a bit more punch by hitting that 2k hz range a touch or even a little bit of compression on that sucker to make it really punch out. I think that problem with the kick stands out a lot at 2:20 when it's essentially the only thing holding up the lead synth there; if it was punchier and more powerful, that whole section could come alive a bit more. Making me wait for something to print out before the drop at 3:00 was genius My literal only knock on this is the guitar EQ and some bass resonance after 4:00 that COULD be my room, but my room is professionally treated and tuned. This is a great arrangement, clearly above the bar, fun as hell to listen to, and an instant add to my OCR Workout Playlist that doesn't exist yet but should. YES
