After getting the midi for the source song of Dr. Wily's Castle Theme, I wanted to make something dancey with elements of Drum and Bass as well as Happy Hardcore - Hard Dance. I composed my new arrangement of Takashi Tateishi's song in Logic Pro X and made all the new elements to the song myself within Logic.

I was inspired by another remix:

The core beat pattern at :11, :34, :45, 1:30, and 2:05 ended up overused by the end, but there were enough changeups in the part-writing supporting the source melody to make that beat repetitiveness a non-issue. Kind of crunchy when it comes to the mixing, so some of the supporting writing was obscured, but nothing beyond a personal preference nitpick there.

Nice formula for source tune personalization, primarily done by never letting the instrumentation or textures rest on their laurels for too many measures. The end result was that this packed a lot of evolution in its short runtime. We'll see if the other Js agree that the treatment was substantial enough, given how short this is.

Folks may also notice that the track loops perfectly, which was also a nice touch. :-)

opens with a ringy version of the opening riff, and we get a slam transition into a big hit right at 0:11. this is right on the line of clipping, straight gigasausage, and it's very old-school in the sound to me. there's an immediate fade-down to a break for a short period before another big hit at 0:34. this flaps back and forth a bunch over the next 30s, but it adds a ton of extra sfx and supporting elements in here - the adaptation to the genre is fantastic. i'd call 1:07 a payoff chorus in that it's longer than 10s, and again sounds good.

the breakdown at 1:40 is longer than i expected given the length of the track, but the transition at 2:04 is great and i loved the stutter focus at the end. lots of variety throughout. i wouldn't have minded letting the end hang instead of cut, but it's a functional ending.

this is fun! i wasn't sure at first because it felt pretty true to the midi at first, but there's loads of supporting material. fun track.

There's a ton of charm in the chips right from the intro. Love the honky synth that takes over @ :24 for the melody, like a cronchy digital sax. The style overall is reminiscent of the submissions to Bishu's beat battles or Eliminate's Audio Combat where the goal is creative sample flipping inside a time constraint. I'm really enjoying the frenetic, attention-snapping transitions between the A and B lines, never really settling too long on one idea before pivoting. Happy hardcore listeners are gonna be eating good with this one!
