Ristar - Round 4-1 - Pre-Song - Intension

"Ahhh...Ristar, whats not to love about this game? The game play is awesome, the music is way ahead of it's time, and the graphics are awesome. We at Priceless Productions love the sound track of this game to death and it was very hard to pick just one song to remix, especially with our busy producing schedule. But we all came down to the decision of actually taking a sample from one of the stages, and building from there...and this is what we got. A nice chill beat that you can just sit back, bob your head, and just enjoy the music. Be on the look out for us as we continue to make more beats, everything from Hip-hop, R&B, Reggaeton...etc. and hell, we'll see if we can't remix another classic track from one of our favorite video games. This is a great site that we've enjoyed for years, and we're very excited to be able to add on to the great library of remixes already on Overclocked. Till next time...."

This version is slightly louder, sorry about the mix up....

Definitely too much reliance on direct sampling the original. Opened up with the original game audio before doubling the droning sound in the background with a second drone and adding some beats at :18. Some near-monotone beats are brought in at :35, then some OMG-phatter beats at :52. Nothing at all so far besides adding shit on top of the original.

The direct sourcing seemingly ends at 1:09, but the game audio can still be heard faintly in the background until 1:26, returning faintly at 2:17. Meanwhile, the track chugs along with no melody, merely continuing the groove based on the supporting elements of the original. Not much direct working with the melody beyond that point. Goes primarily back to the direct sampling from 2:50 until the end.

When we say 'ReMix'' date=' we actually mean something closer to 're-arrangement', if that helps clarify. If you listen to most of the pieces on the site and compare them to the originals, you should get an idea of what a ReMix is. [b']In terms of arrangement - how close or distant ReMixes should be to the original - the general rule is that the ReMix should be YOURS. We don't just mean that you were involved in its creation, but that it is different enough from the original so as to readily illustrate the contributions, modifications, and enhancements you have made. In other words, don't just take the original and drop a few drum loops on top. Also, don't simply take a MIDI file and assign new instruments to the parts, or add reverb, and expect that to pass as 'yours'. Changing a piece's genre, adding original passages, solos, harmonies, and counter-melodies, as well as altering instrumentation, dynamics, and tempo are all ways of making a ReMix your own unique creation, and are techniques best used in conjunction.

Definitely a submissions violation, but I didn't check it all the way through during the initial evaluation. You can't rely this much on sampling the original game audio for ANY track you plan to submit here. That being said, there also wasn't enough substance or actual attempt to rearrange the source material when the original game audio wasn't in play. Read our Submissions Standards more throughly before submitting in the future.

Really the only thing that would raise the potential NO OVERRIDE red flag are the direct samples, as far as I can tell.

I wouldn't even go so far as to say the song relies too heavily on them, it's just that there's not much to this mix. It is a "bob your head to the chill vibe" type thing, and that's cool, but there's really no development in terms of the music. It's like listening to the same 4 bars on loop for 3+minutes.

Glad you guys (Priceless Productions) like the site, and we hope y'all stick around, but we're really try to steer away from using in-game music clips, and we also try to look for a little more direction in the tracks we post here. The song should generally have at least SOME kind of progressive objective (which is going to be hard using the source you did anyway, seeing as it's really just a 7 second loop). This is just a little too repetitive to meet the criteria.

Keep up the music, though, and hope ya'll continue on with the OCR love

NO (override confirmed)
