Malcos
For those of you who don't know what an ashbory is, it's an unusual type of bass guitar. I bought it because of it's uniqueness, and that fact that it apparently sounds similar to a double bass. http://www.largesound.com/ I haven't actually got it yet, but it should be arriving in about 5 or so days. Anyone else here got some unusual, not so well known instruments?

The Pezman
I listened to the samples... to me, they sounded little (if any) different from a typical bass. But then again, I am not a bassist. So let me know how it works out. Are we going to talk eclectic instruments now?
Goodrum04
Yes, I have run across some very unusual instruments searching the internet. Unfortunately, only one comes to mind at the moment: the harp guitar. Here's a link to what they look like, you could search youtube for what it sounds like. http://www.harpguitars.net/history/org/org-form3b.htm I will look around and see if I can remember any of the other instruments I have seen and wondered wtf they were thinking when they made it. here ya go, quite possibly the ugliest instrument in the world, the 10 string guitar http://planetharp.com/store/product56.html I'm kind of tired of looking so there you go, I contributed two to the list of unusual instruments

My Ashbory should be arriving soon, stupid Parcelforce!
Malcos
Finally arrived yesterday. A bit smaller than I thought it would be, but it sounds good! It'll take a few weeks for the strings to stay in tune (I'm retuning every 5 minutes at the moment! But I'm happy with my purchase.
The Pezman
Tell me, though, what exactly sounds different than a typical bass. As I mentioned before, I couldn't here anything.
Malcos
Well I'm not a bassist either lol. This is my first ever bass. To me, it has characteristics of a fretless bass, but because of the rubber silicone strings it has this other quality, that has been likened to a double bass. I would say it sounds a bit like both, but it really all depends on how you play it, you can get lots of different timbres out of this thing, depending on the tone controls and they way you play it. Anyway, at the moment I'm kind of rubbish with it. Like really rubbish! I'm out of tune half the time, playing strings I shouldn't by accident... I'll probably need at least 3 months with this before I even feel I can play one song.
