  1. I was a little worried this thread would roll off the list without any replies... I'll tweak the drums as best I can (I see whaht you mean about it sticking out a bit). The production side is, as always, my weakness, and I have a tendency of ignoring issues unless someone else points them out. Thanks again! I appreciate the feedback.
  2. I was not aware the music wasn't writtien for the game... I downloaded the soundtrack of the 2dBoy site, and no mention was made to imply otherwise? Love this rendition of it, especially when the full vocals come in. Production could, as you mentioned, be more polished, but I think the overall song is very well done. The abrupt ending saddens me...
  3. This is a remix of Merlee's Mansion, which was one of those songs that just stuck in my head months after playing Super Paper Mario. It's a strange take on the theme, incorporating electronic elements with a cinematic twist. It is tentatively finished at this point, and I'm just looking for critiques and opinions before I consider submitting it. Thanks for your time! Bad Manors v1
  4. As a relative fellow noob at posting, I can sympathize with your frustration at slipping off the lists (it's happened to me on two separate songs, and I know how discouraging that can be)... that said, stop bumping yourself back on! It's annoying, and you come off as kinda whiny. As for the actual piece, it just sounds like the original with updated sounds. While good in its own right, it kinda missed the aim of ocremix. For this to be successfully submitted, you'd need a considerable amount of deviation from the original (go ahead and throw in that solo) rather than a straight-up cover. If you ARE being ignored, try something else. Tweak it. Fix some of the questionable notes. At least an updated version will give you an excuse to bump yourself back to the top of the list.
  5. Yeah, I’m definitely gonna go back and tweak stuff here and there. I also agree with the idea of an intro, but I scrapped my earlier attempts. I guess I’ll try to think of something to put there without it sounding tacked on. It’s funny how everybody has said “more reverb.” The reason I used so little reverb (I did add some, I promise) was to avoid using too MUCH of it, which is apparently a common noob mistake. I’ll post an update as soon as I get everything to sound right. Thanks for all the feedback so far!
  6. Yeah, production's defintey not my forte. I'm using VI.one instruments ($200 for "a step up from midi") on Cakewalk's Music Creator 3 (both cheap and dated), and being the broke teen that I am, what advice do you have for squeezing all the quality I can from what I've got? About it feeling schizophrenic, that's a result of fitting it into a reasonable time length, so I'd be hard-pressed to elaborate on sections, and the way it is now, I'd hate to see anything go.
  7. I think the biggest problem this song has is production. Unfortunately, I don't really know what to tell you to help with that (especially the drumset about halfway through). When it comes to arrangement, maybe it's just me, but it feels like it's missing a driving force. My suggestion: timpanis. They would give the whole thing a bit more cohesion, and the epicness factor would definitely improve.
  8. Okay, let's try this again. After about a month of negligence, I finally went back and "finished" this one up. For those that didn't hear it the first time, this is a remix of "Saria's Song" with a bit of the "Song of Time" thrown in. I wrote it as a sort of ode to the Skull Kid, hence the title "Play With Me." I need advice on this before I try to submit it, specifically the intro (does it need more of an intro?) and ending (I'm torn between keeping the final piano DUUUMM or going without). And yes, I'm aware that the file size is too big, I'll fix that later. Anyhoo, here it is: Play With Me (update 2): http://www.mediafire.com/?zzznzjzymxm And the sources (sorry about Youtube, but the melodies are extremely simple anyway): Saria's Song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Dt3QWsJ0Bs Song of Time: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C6oZSp49Oss&feature=related If you're going to take the time to listen to the song, please at least give me some feedback.
  9. Alright, here's some more of it... I decided to completely change thigs up and add in the Song of Time, as well as putting the song back into 3/4. The ending is not the real ending! I just looped it and added a fadeout as a placeholder. I also tried to fix a couple of the issues earlier (mainly in my attempt to break the repetition at 0:44 to 1:50). Enjoy.
  10. Sorry bout the name confusion... I always relate the song to Skull Kid because of Twilight Princess (and I still have never played Ocarina of Time! Shame on me!)... As far as most of the critiques go so far, they were either vey helpful or I was already aware of them, so thanks! -I plan on going back and creating a more definite intro later. -I was aware of the guitar repetition from 0:44-1:50, but I think I was in denial about it. I'll try to improve that section, as it does seem to stretch on longer than I'd realized. -Wow. I hadn't connected the transition at 2:02 to Mannheim Steamroller... Unfortunately for you, I'm a pretty big fan, so I really like it. If it bugs enough people out there I might change it, but until then... -And the "ending." Yeah, that was the point where it just fell apart because I hadn't bothered to make any more. That's DEFINITELY being refined! Thanks for the input so far! I hope to update it soon.
  11. I can't say much about the compression and post stuff, but the song itself is, in my opinion, longer than it needs to be. It feels very repetitive, and the change at about 5:20 is refreshing, but it came too late. It's the obvious issue of having such a repetitive source to work with, and especially with this song being as famous as it is, we've all heard straight guitar covers of it. You need to make sure that you get to the original ad more worthwhile parts before some people lose interest.
  12. A'ight, this'll be me third song to try and submit... it seems like I learn something new each time. This is a remix of "Saria's Song" and the "Song of Time" from the Legend of Zelda games. It switches between 3/4, 9/4, and the original 4/4, and by no means is it finished. I just need opinions so far. Here's the song: NEWEST version: http://www.mediafire.com/?jmgojlttymz http://www.mediafire.com/?omnjt3jkxwx ...and the sources: Saria's Song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PyJd39inBxQ Song of Time: Thanks for listening! Also! I could use input on the title.... I'm leaning towards "Play With Me" as a nod to the Skull Kid.
  13. Another great piece trying to cope with MIDI-sounding brass! I have the same problem! How hard would it be to make good brass sounds? Anyway, theres only so much you can do about that. As for the rest of the song I like what I hear. This is a really good mood-setting piece. My main gripe is the overall lack of direction. As for the MIDI instruments, those trumpets, flute, and guitar are really gonna be dealbreakers with submitting this, especially the really exposed parts (like 0:43 and 4:23-4:53). Good luck and keep working!
  14. This sounds like a really long intro. I was waiting for this to have a huge release and go into a much faster, more standard rock piece. The main problem is the clutter. You could afford to tone down or even drop some instruments. Also, if this is the whole song, it seems more slow than heavy (if that makes sense) and lacks energy. This seems like the start of a completely awesome piece, but it needs more variation.
  15. . ...sorry, my brain is trying to process everything I just heard. I've had this looping a couple of times now, and the random filters and pitch bending effects you put all through this make it very strange. Strange in a VERY good way. This is an awesome remix of an awesome source tune. If I had anything against it, it would be that sometimes the effects are a bit grating (mostly the glockenspiel at the very end), which is totally a personal preference, and that there could be more variation. As it is, this is a great song so far, and I hope I can listen to an update soon!
