  1. Wow, that is really interesting; I wish I could read it though. Wow looks just like the insides of a ps2 conrtoller. well except for the battery pack and the leds. Similar, but there actually quite a few differences. http://www.takeitapart.net/archives/ps2-controller/ I don't remember what company it was, but they were considering producing a third party PS3 controller with rumble. Of course they said it would all depend on support from developers whether or not they'd make one. But I for one think that would definitively be awesome if it panned out. Yeah upscaling can get very ugly. Playing old PS1 games on newer TVs also get just as ugly - I remember playing Breath of Fire IV in the summer on my HDTV at home and wow did it look horrible. That can be true, but it all depends on the device doing the upscaling. The XRGB2/3 for instance does a really good job all around, but it would cost me ~$300 to get, So I figured I'd wait for the PS3. Now I don't claim to know what hardware makes a good upscaler, but I think the PS3 could probably do a really good job deinterlacing/upscaling those older games. I can understand them saying "no enhancements like texture filtering/FSAA" but upscaling can be done to all games with no chance of there being any compatibility problems (Unlike that new Xploder HDTV accessory for the PS2) Well, Sony is a company that seems focused on having consumers excited about future releases and not nostalgia for old games, so I can see why they wouldn't go for upscaling old PS1 games - besides, it takes time from their R&D that could be better spent improving the PS3 hardware. I think that if the PS3 upscaled games to 480p it's demand would go up a lot more, and again I don't really think it would take much on their part to do so. (just like the PS2, which should have had the ability to output any game in progressive scan (And it can without a performance hit, since it renders every game internally at 640x480) but they left it up to developers to enable it per game)
  2. my bad, sorry. Sometimes one can get carried away. ;p True dat. I've probably been guilty of it in the past too. From what I've heard it is, I've just been waiting for it to hit the $20 price range to pick it up - that and my DS is getting repaired so I can't play any games right now even if I wanted to.
  3. I love spoilers as much as the next guy, but do you think you could put a poilers tag and put the text in white? You know, if you're not too busy enjoying your awesome game.

  6. So, I'm pretty peeved that the PS3 won't upscale 480i, PS1 or PS2 games to 480p. I'm sure Sony could've used their oh so powerful Cell processor to manage a little upscaling...

  8. Maybe it's because those two DS games are reputed to be incredibly short. And Trauma Center is almost too difficult for its own good later on. God Hand is a Clover game.. so. Saying they're superior means absolutely nothing. Superior at what? These are all games from totally different genres, you can't compare them like that. That said, I saw Worms Open Warfare at EB for $20, I should go back and see if it's still there.
  9. And the Cell processors are formed from the tears of a thousand weeping rape victims. Each.
  10. . . . Damn, Lik-sang was one of my favorite places to get imports from, those frigging bastards.
  11. Just thought I'd tell everyone here, in case they didn't nkow already, that EBGames is having a preorder special for Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin, you get a free 25th Anniversary set that includes a Soundtrack CD, DS Stylus, DS Game case and a Castlevania art book. http://www.ebgames.com/product.asp?product%5Fid=B180197A
  12. So thats cool that instead of replacing batterise you just get a free controller... By the end of my Ps3 days I am going to have about 500 ps3 controllers laying around.... doubtful, you'll probably have to send in the dead controller to get it replaced, but I don't think the controller's rechargeable battery will die that fast - good batteries these days have little to no memory deterioriation. Still, I'll be looking out for some good 3rd party controllers to replace that ugly design which has plaqued Sony's system like some sort of nasy recurring venereal disease.
  13. http://www.kotaku.com/gaming/ps2/ps3-wont-enhance-ps1-or-ps2-games-209134.php So the PS3 won't 'enhance' older titles (whoopdeedoo), what I'm interested in is whether it will upscale the video signals of 480i games to progressive scan?
  14. I hope Logitech designs and releases a good wireless gamepad for the PS3, something like their past PS2 or Xbox offerings - I'm not all that crazy for their new 'chillstream' controller.
  15. Well I just got my shiny new Onyx DS Lite Overall I'm pretty pleased with it, but aside from the GBA cards which jut out a little too much for m tastes there are two other things that I'm displeased with. For starters, the speakers are definitively a letdown compared to the Fat's, they just aren't as loud and don't have the same surround sound effect as the former's. good earbuds/phones are definitively a must for the Lite. My last gripe is with the screen brightness settings, a great feature to be sure and much needed, but I don't know why they decided to make the first brightness setting less bright than the normal DS, while the second one is more bright. This might just be me, but it makes some games look too dim, yet if you change it to the second it's almost too bright. IT would have been nice for the screen brightness controls to be on the case rather than the startup menu as well. Nitpicking aside, it's really a great redesign, apart from some strange design decisions.
  16. Yes, because watching Henry/Heather/James bludgeon that misshapen monster to death for the 532nd time really helps us to empathise with them and further the plot. I know for a fact that a first person view would affect me a lot more than the current third person one, for instance in games with large, lifelike spiders, I get really creeped out when I have to fight them in first person, just because they seem that much closer to you. Considering the main appeal of the SH games is to creep people out, a first person perspective seems like a obvious choice to me. And it's not like you couldn't still have cutscenes and the like, nor does the character you play as has to suddenly become a mute. I'm also sure that any of the previous silent hill games could be played from the first person (with control changes and the like of course) and not only would they not be lessened by it, but it would actually enhance the experience. (Graphics-wise notwithstanding)
  17. I rather liked the third person camera in the SH games, it allowed them to do some neat stuff with the camera angles while still doing a good job in keeping what you needed to see on the screen. As far as the comparison to RE, well that series has always been more based on action, so the behind the shoulder camera move really helped it a lot. As for Silent Hill, I think they should either stick to their classic third person style, or (some may hate me for this) move completely to first person for real immersion into the environments.
  18. Actually it's just plain bad game design. You don't make a level where there's a spot that will harm the player, but it can't be recognized until whoever's playing actually hits it - thus forcing the player to play and replay the level until they have it memorized completely. I haven't played the new Sonic game, but that's what it sounds like. So yeah, it's basically a preference, like 99% of things in the world, but a good one if you ever want to make a game. Although I guess some people like playing a game and then dying instantly from some invisible trap that they would only have known was there if they had played it previously. In my book, those people are called masochists.
  19. Games shouldn't rely on memorization too much though, they should rely on things like reflexes, quick thinking, etc. That's one of the reasons I don't like your standard fighting game. (other than the fact it's so unintuitive)
  20. That's nice, but I'm not talking about double sided discs, the BR disc I refered to had a single side with six layers, totalling up to 200GB - no flipping required. Yes, it's a prototype and there are only 50GB disc available at the moment, but that doesn't rule out anything. I don't really have much of a preference between Bluray or HD DVDs, in fact I'm kind of leaning more toward HD DVDs at the moment, for various reasons. Both however are capable of some pretty significant data storage gains over regular dvds (although Blu-Rays seem have the upper hand here). What I'm saying is that with the move from designing games for SD to HD, the standard DVD format is really going to need to be replaced if we truly want games to take advantages of what HD offers. Sony might end up with an advantage in this regard, while developers for the 360 may have to find some new ways to create better looking games, while still storing it on the same discs they used for the XBox.
  21. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blu-ray_DiscMore storage space, from what I gather. Ah ... and yet it doesnt impress me too much I know what you mean. I still think it's too early for a format change so Blu Ray and HD-DVD need to wait a little while. A Blu-Ray disc that can store up to 100GB is nothing to scoff at, and many developers have voiced concerns about cramming all the extra data needed for HD game content into the standard 8.9GB DL DVDs, So I don't think it's too early for a new, bigger format. Had Sony and MS not benn pushing HD gaming so much then yes, HD DVD and Blu-Ray would not be necessary at all this coming generation. In my mind Sony has dropped the ball in a lot more areas than deciding to include Blu-Ray into the PS3.
  22. I wish they made a Mechcommander for the DS rather than another yawn-inducing Mechassault, it would be perfect for the system - Alas, we'll probably be plaqued with lackluster mech action games forever since MS doesn't seem to know how to capitalize on their property.
  23. No, but that doesn't mean it has to suck.
  24. It'd be cool if there were just different language settings for it. I used to be kind of excited for that, but when I found out there was going to be no Flash, sound or video support well, I'm not sure I really care anymore.
  25. Same here. And Mario did kind of punch blocks when you jumped in the older games, it just looked more like he was hittin them with his head.
