  1. Just wanted to inform everyone here that I am back...almost... I had a lot of stress during my three weeks of "vacation", so I need a bit of rest before I can get on with the work for any project. In addition, a friend of mine, Zak, has started his own project (A Seiken Densetsu 3 ReMix project) and entitled me to being his co-coordinator. This doesn't mean a lot of work, but here and there I need to lend him a helping hand to organize things So you guys and gals have still to be a bit patient before I can get rollin' again
  2. Yes, I am interested in seeing a Kirby vs. DeDeDe battle as an easter egg in the story book
  3. It looks pretty nice, but I think it would be a great idea to put it on the website at 100% of the original pixel size
  4. Here you go! Oh yeah, and I know that you can't use the backgrounds repeatedly without making adjustments, I thought that you could do that (because it's not a problem for me). Just wanted to give you some nice starting images... OK, and for the buttons I would suggest using transparent PNGs and re-write the rollover engine because it's not preloading and the server is really slow, so you can't see the roll-over effect unless you wait for a long time. If you need any additional help, just ask me
  5. Maybe you like one of these: Space 1 Space 2 Space 3 I can also do differently colored ones if you wish, but I personally like the dark blue-ish/purpl-ish color scheme for space backgrounds
  6. Cool! is there a demo of this or something? I would like to try it out with sound ^-^
  7. Oh, I am sorry! - I didn't know that, and hearing a sampled piccolo in your mix I thought that you don't play real flute (because I guess someone with that talent would record the flute track himself on his or her instrument). But still I think it sounds too airy, so you might choose a different flute sound because something airy contains almost every frequency and masks out everything else a bit. I am no flute player, but I really thought mine sounded well (here is an example of the lower range of it, I know the MP3 compression is horrible). Yes, well, at least I kinda like it ^-^ But taking the flute in my mix to that low register doesn't sounds as playful anymore. And the "piccolo" of my keyboard doesn't at all sound realistic. Yeah, I didn't mean you, I meant lightwarmth (see above), sorry for the misunderstanding. Oh, OK, now I see why you called it "high quality". When I go to a website where music plays as you described it, it controls my keyboard, as well, and doesn't sound necessarily half bad (except they use the gunshot for drums or use the power kit exceedingly ^-^) But the main quirk about standard MIDI files is that they don't contain any EQ settings for each track. But my keyboard has some standard EQing settings for every instrument, so it doesn't sound THAT bad, like on my Roland SC-8850 ^-^ Using the Roland, it sounds like a musical soup most of the time. That's a point where we differ a lot. I am always looking for synths that have GM capabilities because I can, for example, listen to every track on VGMusic.com and have a good preview. I am also totally used to the GM drum layout and hate it if a sampler has a different layout because I have to search for the drums I need. I can only second that. It's a good description of what to do here. The most important thing for a balanced mix is that there are not two or more instruments "fighting" for a specific frequency range. It makes things unpleasant to listen to. Even octaving up or down some tracks can help alleviate this problem.
  8. No way they sound like high quality MIDI (high quality MIDI sounds like all of my entire collection of works I've ever done because I have done everything 100% in MIDI) - but maybe they aren't really bad, they need a fair amount of mastering, I think, mostly EQing to have every instrument cover its distinctive frequency range to make it sound less "soupy". No offense here, just want to help out PS: But I really don't think the flute sounds better than the one I used... I believe it was you who ranted about the bad quality of my flute sound, right? I don't like a flute sound if it gets too "airy" (and even a pan flute doesn't have to sound airy, listen to the one I used)... Oh yeah, and if you want me to record your track with the instruments I use, I can do it for ya as soon as I'm back in Bern! I got all the General MIDI instruments and thousands more
  9. OK, this is the last post I make from Switzerland. I will be on vacation in Germany for a little bit more than three weeks now, so I am not able to work on my mixes in that time. I have internet there, though, and will check out the forums when I got the time My train will depart in a few hours and I need some rest, so CU l8er!

  11. hmm... Flash is compatible with both PCs and Macs, so you should be fine with SWF files.
  12. It sounds cool, reminds me a lot of the "Chillout" style on my keyboard I haven't played Milky Way Wishes though, so I don't know the original... still stuck in The Great Cave Offensive
  13. Does that really make a difference? I think Flash encodes WAV, RAW and MP3 the same, the destination file size is always the same (according to KWarp) - but with prior low bitrate MP3 conversion (ie below 192kbps) you get extra low quality because it is encoded twice with low bitrates, so importing the WAVs to flash should be far better because they are only encoded once.
  14. Let's put it this way: The song on your proof site *WAS* 5 MB and now is compressed with an audio codec flash used and it has a significant quality loss, even instantly recognizable on my notebook speakers I just think flash isn't supposed to have real high-quality audio, it automatically compresses it so the flash movies don't take forever to download...
  15. I'm sorry to tell you but this is impossible without losing quality... 5 kHz? You must be kidding...anything below 44kHz is absolutely inacceptable... and 5kHz is worse than telephone quality! I would rather go for 128 or 160kbps ABR MP3s, that should be the best trade-off...
  16. You can absolutely count me in, and hey, there aren't that much additional songs because of the new rule. I think we can handle this, especially if we keep the same style.
  17. OK, WIP time once again! I changed a lot of things, refined a lot of things, tried different things and ended up almost the same as before. I'm not yet 100% content with what I got, but I am very satisfied with the outcome of the second section, which is new in this WIP. For now, I left the wrong chords at the end of the violin passage untouched, I hope someone can get a hint for me, or else I am forced to do it myself by trial-and-error. I added slightly detuned-ness to the flutes and the clarinet, and I think it sounds more realistic now. As always, any comments are welcome!
  18. I like this one the best. You can do a theme in many different music styles! For example, I could do the boss theme in the same style as the Floria theme, with guitar strumming, flutes and the like. What do you think?
  19. It's definitely not a matter of instrumentation, it's in the chords, specifically the last 6 ones, not counting in the very last 2, they are absolutely right, I can hear that. And yeah, the violin needs some improvement, I know this and maybe will work on it today. I also had an idea of a cute woodblock (yeah, there actually happens to be something like that) in the portions of the theme that are played by the bassoon.
  20. Wooow, there REALLY have been some postings while I was sleeping nicely As I awakened there were almost twice the pages that were there before on this thread... Oh yeah, and thanks for everone on their comments! You really think it sounds like hanging or something? It's totally OK to me (or I would have changed it in the first place), but maybe I will add some woodblocks to the second repetition of the first part to keep it even more interesting. And yeah, the woodblocks on my keyboard are the way cutest woodblock sounds I've ever heard, they fit into the genre very very well! Yes, in fact I slowed it down because I wanted to do these instrument changes to make it sound more cheeky and playful. I think so far everything is right, but - reading that you heard the wrong chord in the first WIP - can you maybe help me here on the chords at the very end of the second WIP, something on them sounds wrong, but not too wrong, so I can't hear it (I am absolutely not an expert when it comes to notation, chords and musical theory, I still have to learn a lot there). Oh yeah, and Lightwarmth: You really think the flute sounds totally bad? It's not a piccolo, though (the piccolo I have on my keyboard sounds worse than the regular flute played higher). I think it sounds better than many sample CDs I know of. I could try and move it down an octave, though and test if it works out. I could also make a few notes of it a bit off-key to add to the childish-ness Again, thanks, everyone for their comments!
  21. Maybe I can do something about the flute and the clarinet by adding more dynamics to them. I also have another clarinet sound with hefty vibrato, but I think it's a bit out of place in an arrangement like this. I prefer the simple one. Of course, the whole mix would sound much better if it would have been played on real instruments...but I only have that keyboard, so I have no other choice I think the pauses in the original are the same, no drums and no other sound until beat 4, sometimes there is a drum fill with one hit before beat 4, but most of the time it's as empty, and with all the drums and other thingies going on in the original, I think the pause is even more noticable there. But a friend of mine whom I showed the WIP a few hours ago also disliked it, but could not give me a reason for it, he said he didn't like the rhythm and also doesn't like the melody too much. Oh yeah, and by the way, I will add percussion to the later parts of the mix, just the beginning is so laid-back (and I think this is kinda cool in some way)
  22. Money? Why not sweets? ^-^ Well, with money, he can buy whatever he wants. Not true! He can't buy sweets that are only available in Switzerland, and there are a lot of them!
